In one study conducted at the University of Toronto, they conducted a study comparing two scenarios of user testing. In the first one, they gave the participants only one prototype while in the other one they were given two.
The result has shown that participants provided with more choices are more likely to provide critical feedback that would be helpful to product improvement.
The mentality is simple. If you have more choices to compare, it opens up different possibilities and it’s easier to spot the underlying issues.
I'd say this is part of Value at Void's secret sauce too. The team would usually produce at least two different options for a problem, so it’s easier for us to receive constructive feedback from our clients.
