In this video, I'll show you a few variations of the saw grip for putting. I'll start with the left hand first and then move on to the right hand if you're a right-handed putter. The saw grip helps stabilize the club face so you can hole a lot more putts.

What toe-hang angle for a putter would be best for using the saw / claw putter grip?

I use the saw grip. The first 3 fingers of my right hand go across the grip at approximately 45 * with the end of my pinkie finger touching the back of the grip near the bottom of the grip. I really like the Golf Pride Tour SNSR grip which is ideal . Two excellent questions by other golfers.

I went out on Sunday and used the saw grip. Made 4 birdies and made all my shortish putts. 😅

I am a Lefty so I have my right hand at the top and I actually find holding the grip fairly firmly helps. With my left hand I now use more of a pencil grip with my thumb underneath and my index finger behind the grip. The new thing I'm working on is being less tentative on all my putts and I'm actually using my wrists rather than my shoulders to move the putter. Keeping my head really still until the putter head has been released keeps the ball on line. Finally I have the ball position just inside my leading instep so I am trying to create more top spin rather than backspin.

Hi Julian. The saw grip, your grip, has helped a huge amount. However, and I might have mentioned this to you previously, 8 years ago i damaged my left should resulting in quite a short back swing and the same with the follow through. In fact my hands go no higher than my should in both directions. The huge advantage i now have is that I am hitting very straight. Can you show a video with suggestions to help/improve my swing? Julian. Another superb lesson. Does the saw grip transfer when using a hybrid to putt from off the green or should I use my regular full shot grip ? Thanks 👍 🏌⛳

Great vid. Are you a believer in a certain style of putter and grip style suiting the Saw grip? And does the weight of the putter matter?

I believe that with the putter things are personal preference, including putter length, grip size and weight. It does depend on speed of greens you play on and how hard you have to hit your putts.

Now that’s a very good question, the answer is I haven’t seen it but that’s not to say it wouldn’t work. I’ll give it a go tomorrow 👍

How do you feel like you begin to take the putter back. Is your right hand pulling it back or is it the left hand. Do you squeeze the thumb and forefinger to take the putter back with our right? ? I like the feel of the saw grip like you describe but I get a little lost and how I should take the putter back. I know this grip can help me but would really like you advice.

Hi Gerald, I would suggest that the left hand stabilises the end of the grip and the right hand moves it. I would suggest that you should make some strokes with your eyes closed so that you can really become aware of what is moving what 👍

@@JulianMellor ....Thank you. I was hoping that is what you would say because that feels more natural than trying to take it back with my left. I find that I have to have a slight amount of pressure to hold the grip between the bottom of the thumb and top of forefinger so I can move it back with my right hand.

Putting is the worst aspect of my game, frequently 3 putting missing short putts. I will definitely give the saw grip a go and your particular variant makes sense to gain stability.
