No matter front, rear or all wheel drive, your vehicle turns its wheels through a differential. The differential is a set of gears which distribute engine energy to your axles which spin the wheels. The gears inside the differential must be coated in a type of oil, just like your engine. Without the presence of this high-pressure gear oil, friction will quickly wear through the hardened metal of your gears and shorten the life of your transmission.
