as a chinese , i will tell you the easiest way to distinguish the use of “的” “得” “地” ,just believe me !! chinese is my mother language~ 1、if the "De" use in front of a noun , just use “的” for example: 很大的蛋糕,翠绿的树,很香的苹果 2、if the "de" use in front of a verb ,just use "地“ for example :开心地工作,愉快地玩耍,开心地玩电脑,愉快地打游戏 3、if the ”de" use to modify the degree to which the verb is done, just use "得“ it always use next a verb and before a adjectives, the adjectives is used to modify the degree to which the verb is done ,for example:干得漂亮!做得好!字写得很漂亮 that's all , it is easy all right?

红色is not an adjective but a noun, the red color. When followed by 的,红色的turns into an adjective and can be used as a modifier to other things, such as the 衣服in the example.

Excuse my off top, Google translates this into Russian as indefinite, not perfect. Like, "l understand", but not 'I got it' which l presume should be the case?

When 得means must or have to, it pronounced as dei3

At 2:40- 我听得懂 means I can understand. 我听懂(了)means I understand. 得 indicates a kind of ability here.

i do agree 得 indicates ability the teacher translated wrongly.

well you say that: 得 is used after verbs to give you a bit more information about the verb (as complement of the verb) this is pretty much description of function of adverbs ... devide the word to ad-verb and you will understand ... but then you say that making adverbs from adjective is made by 地 ... example: you must listen carefully carefully is complement of the verb to listen so my point where I am trying to get is ... what is the functional difference between adverbial particle 得 and 地? because except the position in the sentence I don't see any semantic difference :-) because every body talks about the structure but not the meaning thanks for your answer

A native Chinese speaker here, "得 is used after verbs to give you a bit more information about the verb", well, this kind of description is right, but not very specific, actually, 得 is used to describe the degree/state of an action, for example, 她哭得很厉害 means that "she crys/cried/ is crying, so hard". 得 is also wisely used to emphasize the result caused by an action or the reason of a result, e.g. (你说的话让)我听得懂,"(what you are taking about makes) me understand.", 我吃得很饱, "I am so full (because I ate so much)". As for 地(de), it doesn't has any specific meaning, people add it after a adjective to turn the adjective into a adverb, you can see it as a mark/token to represent the transformation from a adjective to a adverb. my English is not good enough, I hope my explanation is clear and helpful for you.😬

What kind of videos are you planning on doing? A good topic could be characters like 到 and 完。I see these characters more often but don't fully understand how they should be used in a sentence. Especially 到. 完 is used to say that something as finished right?
@FluentinMandarinDotCom

I think what you are talking about is result complements, that's a good idea, thanks!

Thank you for your video. This was, again, very helpfull. Can you also use 得 to say you don't understand? So 我听得不懂 instead of 听不懂?
@FluentinMandarinDotCom
@FluentinMandarinDotCom 6 лет назад
You're welcome, and no you can't say that, you would either use 得 in the middle or 不, so if would have to be 听不懂

As a matter of fact, many Chinese native speakers don't really understand the difference of 的地得.

If someone want to get rid of Chinese characters, strokes, radicals, components etc, no matter! needn't remember these, learn Chinese in Zhuyin forms(phonetic and Chinese script.). It 'll be easier and pure Chinese. Vow!!!
