OMG look at Capri targeting and treating a cockatoo she doesn't even know! I love watching the tiny trainer grow up! Obviously she's her own person and can do whatever she wants and whatever makes her happy but it would be so cool to watch someone go from a beginner trainer to an expert the way you guys are. And it shows anyone can learn bird language and build a relationship with them.

I'm a fan of Capri! For such a young person, she's so intelligent and wise. She knows how to remain calm and still and is clearly gaining a wonderful understanding of birds as she grows up in her unique family. Well done!

I cant wait for this! I have 6 birds but my umbrella cockatoo is definitely the most challenging and I've been waiting SO long for a bird tricks videos on cockatoos that aren't galahs! That owner was messing it up and he didn't respect the bird, his moves were negative so was his energy 😯. The cockatoo reacted on that, kudos for Dave and Capri to show how it's done. 😊🇳🇱

Patience, kindness and understanding. Best thing about how you work with these beautiful creatures. They're naturally curious and tend to want to investigate new things (and occasionally destroy them) but the amount of trust they have to have in us, as a completely alien species to them, is touching. Capri is fantastic with the birds and I wish everyone was like her. Please keep up the excellent work, every human you train makes a birds life worth living. Hopefully the owners have seen a side to their feathered companion that they haven't appreciated and also show the same level of kindness and respect you've demonstrated. We went to a zoo the other day and they had a ton of cockatoos, macaws, amazons, and a whole enclosure of budgies. There was one cage with umbrella cockatoos that were dancing, laughing, and talking a ton. The quieter one came to the front of the cage and was giving clear body language that it wanted some scratches. I kept telling her that she was a pretty bird and started scratching her. She kept leaning closer practically trying to squeeze through the cage bars so it could be closer to me. When I went to walk away I said bye and the it screamed " wait! Come back! " to me. I felt so bad for leaving it but happy that it liked me. It was so cute!

I am on a farm so it doesnt matter if its loud but I want some tips on training them. Rn I just have a macaw, and a Amazon.
@mimthyss
@mimthyss 4 года назад
Well I'd argue macaws and Amazon's are very loud too haha. I'm sure a cockatoo wouldn't be a problem in that sense. They're just notorious for 'mood swings' and 'unpredictability' but as with any bird, you have to spend time with them and get to know their personality and eventually you'll figure out how they'll react to stuff even if you've never seen that exact situation before, yknow? Like.. if it were your kid you'd know what they like and don't and when they're gonna throw tantrums etc. Same with birds :D as long as you have the patience, time, space, and funds - which I assume you do cause you already have a macaw AND an Amazon - then it should work out fine! Maybe visit some cockatoos of all types at bird rescues and shelters or any friends or such that have cockatoos etc. Get to know them. Each bird is unique though of course but it might help. Good luck :)

Well, you’ve started at the right place, doing research. Continue to that keep yourself educated and knowledgeable. Then just take it slow, our guys took a year to be independent and fully trust us, but that also depends on your birds background. It might take a while but be patient and keep trying you’ll get there eventually. Also desensitize her to any new stimulus- slowly introduce new food and toys, feed by hand and build trust. Good luck

That bird not bonded with owner . He come across dominant distracting her self for avoidance. Training wonderful but bird prefer other s . Feel she being forced with training with person she doesn't like. He not treating her like individual just a bird. Cockatoo are such emotional creatures. She like your husband over owner. Is it fare to force a relationship.???
