Good video. Informative. Well done. Thank you for donating to the Wounded Warriors project. I am to be a participant in that program in about seven month from now. Thank you for supporting us Vets. I am personally grateful. HLW. Vietnam era.
Very informative. For the hand shovel, I really like the Whites. I wish they were still available just in case I ever break mine. Great video. I also appreciate you making the suggestion to not carry a the larger shovel in to a public park. A small handful of detectorists around my area have really tarnished our public image and now the city has all but banned us from detecting in the parks. Thanks. 👍👍
I use a long handle plug digger in parks all the time, it looks aggressive with a 5’ long red handle and black serrated blade. But I have never had any issues even when parks staff and public come over to watch or chat. A LOT of it is how you appear and talk to people, how you move and what you share in information. Playgrounds are great, spill a few small coins and ask parents if their kids want to try it, works wonders. I get praise all the time from parks staff, you literally cant see where I dug once the plug goes back in, never dead patches, good technique.
Thank You for the informative video. I really like the last shovel/ digger you showed. The one you hadn't used yet. Also wanted to let you know about our 50th anniversary hunt in June 2022. I guess alot of manufacturers will be there. There will be gold coins and lots of silver. June 17-19 2022. Be awesome to have you here for it. But I realize that it's a great distance to go. Take Care and stay safe.
I have a Garrett hand digger that I use. I sharpened it. Made a huge difference. I don't like to carry around a larger digger. My finds pouch has a spot for a hand digger. The sheath that came with my Garrett digger was junk and did not last long.
Nice video thank you for sharing I started off with predator tools which Is a great company Then with grave digger tools which I absolutely love I have the Nemesis shovel & The Grave Digger Sidekick for any situation also they are built so well they will be handed down as family heirlooms
Great info! I’ve got the exact Excalibur shovel as the last one you showed. Great for places where you just don’t want to carry around a full sized shovel. Also have the Excalibur and digger. He makes great tools plus made right here in USA! 🇺🇸 I also have the Anaconda NX5 & just orders the new Predator Model 21 Phantom. Should arrive any day now.
I liked the last hand shovel you showed... Small but looks like it can dig a nice plug and get in deeper then a normal hand digger.. But I also need a longer handle digger to get those deeper targets that is almost impossible to dig with a hand digger with out making such a big mess.. thank you for sharing ..
I’ve got that exact Excalibur shovel & it’s great for when you don’t want to carry a full length shovel. Makes a plug just as clean as the longer handles version & the serrations are very sharp! I also have the Excalibur hand digger & never used any other hand digger since.
I use shovel in the parks, 75% of the time i do it in the morning while its still dark out, in the summer that means i wake up at 3am and get to the park for 4am, so no one sees me, but 25% of the time im using my shovel when there are people around, the thing is my shovel digs better plugs than my hand digger, and the bigger the plug the more true that is, with the shovel i can dig a huge plug that stays together, with a hand diger not so much, that huge plug falls apart My first hand digger was an amazon special, it had serrations on both sides that were different type of serrations, loved it but i bent it pryig on rocks, but using it i started cutting plugs in both directions, id start cloests to me then cut right and then cut left Then i got my Garret after i bent my amazon digger, its only serrated one way and on the edge the other way, i had to learn to cut my plugs different then i had been with the amazon digger, it took a minute but i got used to it Ive never used the cloth sheaths that come with the diggers, i just threw the digger in my finds bag, but recently i bought the leather sheath from grave digger tools, it was a little tight for a week, but once i broke it in i dont know how i went on without it, it fits my garrett digger just fine after breaking it in I have the predetor oheonix shovel, the RU-vidr paystreak superfreak reccomeneded it on his channel, and im super glad i got it, it works best in moist soil that clunps together, maybe not so great in sandy soil
Thx for the info. Yes the no shovel in parks sadly is more about perception than reality. I agree you can often dig a better plug with a shovel. Unfortunately reason and logic doesn’t prevail with an uninformed public. HH.
Packing one of those huge serrated butcher knife sized diggers on your belt is a great way to attract attention in a park and help you meet the local LEOs.
Possibly. Never ever had an issue in all my years detecting nor have my friends. Regardless for ease of use I keep it in my finders bag vs using a sheath.
I currently use an " anaconda " and quite like it. However previously I had a Root Slayer Nomad shovel. I live in British Columbia and it is not available here, I bought it while snow birding in the US. I loved using that shovel. Sadly it was stolen out of my trunk when my car was broken into. Due to Covid travel retrictions I bought my current shovel locally. If you have never used a root slayer I highly recommend trying one out.
Good Info Rob …….Your New Mini Shovel, I have one very Similar, been using it at my public Parks / Sports Fields where I feel Uncomfortable with a Shovel …….And have had no Issues ……I call it a Hand Digger on Steroids………would you use yours at a Public Park. …. Thanks for sharing
Thx Rob. I’d probably take my whites digger into a public park but it depends. Some of our WI parks (for example Madison/Dane County) actually list and restrict digging tool length to 12” or less. In other, remote areas I would consider using it.
@@mikeshobbiesandrandomstuff just make sure you familiar with TSA rules. If your detector has a lithium battery it’ll have to be carried on vs checked.
Hated that you didnt remove the Dr. Otek digger out of its sheath. Its build quality is really good. Used it many times and priced reasonably. I use a Anaconda or CKG shovel as my main shovel. Both are well built and get the job done with minimal effort.
