This basically unlocks a whole new level of functionality to this already deep and mysteriously quirky machine. Thanks for the info man, super useful. Props to Mario
Could be worth looking to make your drum kit as a sample chain / sounds in the sound pool for each instrument , that way you’ll use 1 x sample slot per kit , not 8. You can also then swap the source quite easily to cycle through drum kits using lfo for example. Otherwise you’d need to arrange all bass drums together in the list.
Not even sure how to save "sounds" yet, but I'll say this: what you describe is a PERFECT reason for Dawless musician's to stay hyped about **OverBridge**!
sadly digitakt doesnt have slicing as octatrack does, and still couldtn figure out (if its even possible) to zoom on sample when moving sample start.. so its hard to find the correct start
@@dnch Resample the sound and then you can use the more granular sample editor to zoom in and find the right start point. Chopping on the digitakt is more like, breaking the sample into smaller files and then places those samples in the one track using trig conditions. Not a traditional slice, but its definitely doable with a bit of trickery.
You just have to watch a sh**load of tutorials and the day you get it, it will still mess with your head. But when you get around it, it's very hard going back to the DAW...!!!
Tahiche, I ran into this issue. Samples are loaded into each project's memory, and the saved pattern only references the slot that samples are loaded into. So if you copy the pattern from one project to another, it will paste the 'pattern' properly, but it won't copy the loaded samples, so each track (drum lane) will be pointing at a sample slot that might not be the correct ones. Copy pasting into a blank project just left my pattern pointing to empty sample slots. A better solution for me was to make Template Projects, where I load a 909 Drum Kit into a blank project, save it & lock it, then make a copy of the entire project when I want to make a song with a 909 kit. Hope this helps!
@@tahiche. You can, but I have a single drum kit per template. For example, where Ricky has several drum kits saved in a single project under different patterns, I just have different projects with one kit each. Ricky's is more flexible because it allows you to pick from multiple kits in one pattern, but mine takes up less space. Either way works.
@@peacefulpigeon7254 To copy a project: -Settings (gear button)-> Project -> Manage Projects. -Then use the arrow keys to highlight the project you want to copy. -Press FUNC+Copy to copy the whole project. The screen will pop-up "COPY PROJECT" -Use arrow keys to highlight a blank project slot and press FUNC+Paste to paste the copied project there. -Digitakt will ask "Replace [name] Y/N", name will be a project if you're about to overwrite one accidentally. Press Yes and Digitakt will pop-up "PASTE PROJECT". Done, you've duplicated a project! :-)
Thanks for the tip Ricky 👌 - is there a way to ensure that your saved ‘kits’ are part of your default project, so that everytime you start a new project, they are there? (Is there a way OTHER than saving a project called ‘Blank Template’ or similar? The downside of such an approach is that it’s *really* easy to overwrite such a file when you go to save a project)
In Model samples you can have kits made of 6 samples loaded to one folder and folder is loaded by pressing orange button and your 6 samples evenly distributed between 6 tracks/pads :)
@@lukecurran9216 ModelSamples is super creative and easy to learn thing. Digitakt more complicated and some features of digitakt are not so comfy as in Model Samples. Buy model samples you will not have regrets if you want to work with samples. Model Samples is easy to connect to computer, easy to load samples, easy to record from ModelSamples to computer. It jas modern workflow. ModelSames is actually a no brainer and I recommend it for those that want to use hardware standalone
You talked about bank 16, but there's only 8 banks, right? It's just that bank 8 happens to be accessed through the button labelled "16" (because the eight banks are selected via the bottom row of 8 buttons).
Hi. Thanks for the vid . Is this technique only true within that project? Eg. What happens when you want to start a new project. How do you get those Patterns like your 909 pattern into the new project? Cheers
@@RickyTinez I'd fill Bank 16 with a bunch of stock kits, Save the project as "Template" or whatever, then initiate all new projects by copying Template to a new slot and renaming it. Dope tip, thanks!
Interesting... hadn’t really thought about this, due to the fact I got the Digitakt before the RYTM. I was working in the opposite direction from most I guess, as sometimes I forget on the rytm that it’ll be the same kit when I go to another pattern, and that changes are across the patterns for the sound.
So basically use 25% of your patterns to make drum kits and then you still have to reconstruct the kit when you change projects, correct? edit: I see you just use bank 16.
I know you guys are really into traditional ways of doing things. I get it, doing things the way we've always done them is safe. It gives us the warm fuzzies. But sometimes doing things differently in a music-making device inspires us to make unique and incredible things that nothing else out there inspires us to do. Enter the Digitakt.
HI! How are you? Thank you for share all the knowledge that helps people like me. Im trying to set more then one (two actually, Moog sub-batty and micro freak) synth with my Digitakt. But I'm getting only channel one. Im selecting another MIDI channel and it doesn't work. I need to make sure each synth is listening only to one channel. It's possible? How? Thank you!
Sup ricky, whenever I try to select BANK and then proceed select a specfic PATTERN, my patterns don't light up white like yours. I know I can rename them how I'd like to differentiate between them all, but when it comes to seeing the number of how many actual patterns are on a given bank it's not showing.
@ 1:55 I can hear your first key get stuck lol. I'm having the same problem on mine and am aware that many others are experiencing the issue of keys getting stuck now and then. Ricky have you ever found a solution to this? If so please share!
But if you have already sequenced patterns, with other sounds, if you change the "kit" will the sequence stay the same? Eg : I have that cool jamming pattern with 808 sounds, can I with your technique keep that pattern but just change the sounds of it without touching the 8 sequenced tracks?
looks like you have the problem with the sticky buttons, as I noticed that your key number 1 was stuck for half a second. There's a very simple fix for that
haha sure! i was just to lazy to write, as i was in the subway. Here you go. It worked like a charm for me and without voiding the warranty. www.elektronauts.com/t/diy-fix-for-sticky-buttons/50094
good for starting a pattern...useless on an existing pattern. the benefit of KITS were, you could load a new kit onto an existing pattern. this way just wipes what is on the current track. you can do what you did by simply copying a pattern, any pattern, paste onto new pattern an clear trigs to move a groups of sounds "aka kit" around.
TRaddcliff Exactly. I’m just getting to know Digitakt and compared to Rytm’s kits this is pretty lame. If I have a bank full of patterns programmed and I decide to tweak the pitch or decay of a sound, I have to do the same tweak individually in each pattern!? Wondering if there’s a workaround to this.
