This one may divide us into opposing sides as a line in the sand could possibly be drawn. Digital or analog stereo delay-what side are you on? Here we have the beloved Vongon Polyphrase digital stereo delay and the oozy-goozy analog warmth from the ⁠⁠ Meraki.
Here I’m doing things a little different than normal. I’m not necessarily trying to make the two sound the same, although we may get there. This one is more of a flavor profile. The warmth of analog. The crispiness of digital.

For the most part I found the Meraki a little too over the top modulation wise. I prefer the subtleties of the Polyphrase. I’d love to hear them run through each other though.

Maybe it’s how I had this set up, but I hear you with the modulation! Running through each other would be really cool! I’d probably do different settings to have different sounds that play well together but yeah, delay into delay all day! 🙌

Thanks for the video. I prefer the Meraki tho I'm not blown away over and above delays I already own. The Meraki would be more appealing to me if it had more options for time sub divisions. I would like to see everything from 1/16, 1/8, 3/16, 1/4, 3/8. I use 2 delays via a mixer and that gives me more flexibility. Note I'm not a guitarist as such - more of a producer - hence my unique perspective compared to the majority of pedal buyers...

Just because you’re not primarily a guitarist doesn’t mean your thoughts aren’t share by guitarists and synth players and anyone using effects! Everyone is welcome here!! I have a feeling the designer of this pedal had a hard choice to make on what to include. While it doesn’t have everything possible, it’s a great set of features for a stereo analog delay!

Ohh how I love delay.. I think it's def my favorite effect. I think they both sound great- but to me, the Meraki takes it. Seems vibe-ier and more organic. Both sooo good tho. 22 seconds?!! Wow.

Delay is probably my favorite as well. So much emotion can be found in those echoes! Yeah 22 seconds. It’s wild!

@@thepedalcollaborative Yea, I think that's what gets me too. I mean, reverb is great and def the most complex - but delay seems to add something really special emotionally ... and it's tough to admit - but I'm not sure any delay really does it better than the Meraki from what I've heard. (not counting real tape delays of course.. cause they prolly do)

Intereting vidéo. Was expecting a lot from the Vongon Polyphrase. I tried just hearing the sound and going to the vidéo each time I liked it. Well... 100% on the Meriaki !...

Little to harsh sounds for my ears and I don't like the modulation (I don't know and can't explain why!). For digital delay I have The Free The Tone FF-1Y and love it ! The Meriaki sounds are just amazing and addictive, regarding sound quality it's a beast.@@thepedalcollaborative

I’ve heard great things about that Free the Tone but I’ve never tried one! I know you can dial that modulation off on the Polyphrase, but I think your ears are just drawn to the analog :)

Not stereo but the Fjord Fuzz Loke is my go to delay nowadays. Did look at both of these though.

Great question! You’re still getting two separate delay circuits that you can run in series or parallel. If you can find a less costly dual analog delay then maybe the Meraki might be the thing you need. I’m drawing a blank currently as to potential dual analog delays that are mono. I know the Flower Pedals Dahlia is less expensive (by $100 usd) but still stereo. The Analogman is dual but not at the same time.

If you re asking this question maybe you should start again, the same routing, only this time switch the order of the pedals. even better. Do an A B Y test procedure, with A as your test, B as my proposal and Y as a test with each one separately from a patch bay splitter good luck@@thepedalcollaborative

@chambre466 I was just asking what your opinion of fair was. If I were doing a more A/B science-based test, the method would be different. This is not that. I tried to make that clear in the video but maybe I didn’t. My hope, and the intent of this video, is to start the conversation either as a group or within yourself on which one is for you, and that maybe, just maybe what you thought to be true may not be the case. 🤷🏻

I prefer my DM-101 to both of them. See "Boss DM-101 Analog Delay | Demo" by Doug Hanson why. Is is basically perfect mix of tape delay's functionality with analogue delay's sound and digital delay's midi controllability. Some say that mono input is a big disadvatage. Not for me. And the way it spreads sound in stereo field seems more organic to me than in Meraki.

@@thepedalcollaborative It does not matter much. I would be perfectly happy with Vongon. It ais sucha masterpiece. Meraki is the other end. DM101 is like Meraki with some clever things on top. But it is also flawed in its own way (see "WATCH THIS before you buy the BOSS DM-101 Stereo Analog Delay!!! (Seriously, do it!)" by Made by Miike. I choosed DM101 (first stereo pedal in a row) and Strymon Deco (additional short delay) after it to spice things up. The only thing I can think of that Meraki or Vongon would do better for me, is to place stereo Hologram Microcosm in front of any of them (because it would be such a waste to use it in mono). Why before? Because analogue delay after Microcosm soften its sound up. But since I choosed not to own Microcosm, it does not matter. Also notice how Doug Hanson cleverly used Eventide H90 after DM101 to make mono delays stereoish.

@@thepedalcollaborative Np. There is also one more video that shows Microcosm's incredible abilities, but you need 2 of them. See "Two Microcosm, One Rhodes [Stereo]" by TUNNEL OF REVERB. It is incredible. And one last thing... there is a channel that shows us that all our top of line pedals are only toys in comparison to old stuff. Of course some channels show old rack Chorus or Delay units that just sound unmatchable, but this one channel shows Magnatone and refurbished Echorec and Leslie. Just choose to listen to one or two of his videos, it is jaw droppingly good sounding. Channel name is Effect Your Affect

Now that time has gone by what can you say you still like better. I am choosing between these two at the moment right now which to buy so curious of your true opinion now?

I still really like them both, and that’s the truth. However, between the two, I still have the Polyphrase. It has a special thing I can’t find anywhere else. Familiar yet mysterious. The Meraki is solid and really really great! I just don’t drool over all analog the way some folks do and I can get the sound and feel I want from digital. All that said, the Polyphrase is on the shelf. The Meris LVX is my main delay and covers everything I need. Hope that helps?

@@thepedalcollaborative thats exactly what i was thinking. I like brighter more defined digital and modulated digital better myself. It stands out more to me along with dry signal over the darker warmer analogue. Plus infinite repeats without self oscillating sounds pretty fricking awesome to me. My only question is can you get pretty darn clean delays from polyphrase? I do like modulated but sometimes i like as clean of a delay as i can get. Not that i don’t have habit, microcosm, h90, lvx etc for that but still nice to know it has that ability if possible. Thanks so much. Love your content.
