In this video Guitar World's gear editor Paul Riario demonstrates the features of the DiMarzio HS pre-wired pickguard. For more gear reviews and videos check out www.guitarworld...
The DiMarzio HS-series pickups are the best thing to happen to the stratocaster since its invention. I don't know why Fender doesn't just put stacked humbuckers in all their strats. I mean, that single coil noise has been a pain for decades. They can offer the old pickups as some sort of "vintage retro" pickup or something like that for neurotic people who think the original ones sound better. They could even charge more for the originals and people will probably pay it.
At our local music shop we have this already for years...... combinations of different pickups and setups swappable in a second on a custom guitar where you can slide them in from the side.
@FCValle Might be specify to this model, as it seems to be more of an Yngwie sets, which Yngwie himself only uses the bridge and neck pickups alone. The 61/67/58 set should have a 5 way switch if I remember correctly...
@TheMetalHeaD256 Emg isn't the only one that makes these sets. Besides, DiMarzio's D-Activator and Crunch Lab pick ups blow every EMG out of the water.
It's about friggin time someone did something like this... now all we need is pickups with an actual kick ass tone an we're golden ... yeah, I'll be soldering the rest of my days won't I? ;-)
@FCValle It was a custom set so you are in no way forced to pick that one with a 3-way. All the other sets has a 5-way switch. You must, i hope, realize they wouldnt try to make profit retrofitting with a 3-way switch.
Seymour Duncan Fury set have better cleans. Dimarzio set handles gain better. But they similar enough to play whatever you want. I guess the final test would be which set handles effects better.
did DiMarzio feel beaten by EMG or something? cause EMG comes out with all these pre-wired pickguards about a year ago, and now DiMarzio with these. still cool anyway. i'd love to try both brands.
@FCValle i think i know why they didn't put a 5 way switch,'cuz they think the only point of "in between" positions is to cancel hum,and since they say that these are hum canceling pups they just decided to eliminate them...and probably 'cuz it's easier to mount.
@MrNeosantana he'll probably be heard more on here than anywhere else, talented musicians are ignored all the time, thats how the music industry works!
@xPsuedo All of the best music is the world has been recorded with the Seymour Duncan Blackout EMTY pickup. There can be no argument. John McLaughlin's use of it on "Eruption" is nothing short of amazing.
looked this up on google, $239!!!! I bought a high end EMG and it was only $100, and it sounds loads better than this, so if you want a better tone AND to save money just check out EMG
Take no notice my friend, not all Brits are like that, I apologise on behalf of my countrymen. But in the same breadth, not all Brits come from London and say "awright" and I'm so sorry I was born and have a family I love in a little corner of the world. Good demo and I'm interested in fitting one of these to a guitar. i'll stick to that for the honour of my country and the other 62.4 million people that are crammed in it. Idiots are all over the globe, so is youtube, not just 'you brits' please
@InsaneShredFury I'm sorry but I find it ironic that people bash on Americans after having watched a review prepared by Americans. Besides, if one looks at the cultural diffusion effect, it's evident that the wide use of English in the contemporary world is a work of American manufacturing of technological and cultural values rather than the work of the English. All I'm saying is that the English should be happy rather than arrogant that Americans talk the same language as them..
@WalrusDoom seriously? anyone who argues a type of pickup is better than another is an idiot. everyone has their own taste in tone, and also, you cant just generalize that humbuckers are better than single coils, or p90s are better than a humbucker. if i made you close your eyes and listen to a humbucker and single coil that happened to sound exactly the same, what would u say then?
.... there is something about Paul's style of playing that i dont like... like he actually plays well but the way he plays physically looks like it shouldnt be as good as it is haha
Seriously?? A bunch of Brits whining about American's not pronouncing the "L" in a word?? How about "alright"?? Sorry, you Brits might recognize it better as "awright." Every different accent pronounces things differently - it is only the people who've never left their little corner of the world who don't recognize that.
