In this video I will be showing you how to install a preloaded, or pre wired pickguard for your stratocaster. It's a really easy way of upgrading your strat copy with very minimal effort.
I will also be comparing a cheap loaded pickguard from Musiclily, bought on Amazon, to a more expensive pickguard from Wilkinson
I will also show you how and what to solder on your guitar, how to remove the old pickguard and install the new one - with a few tips and tricks thrown in

Late to the party but thank you so much. I wired my white and black wires to the wrong spots on the jack and you showed me where it goes. Now my guitar sounds amazing and has this throatyness and zinggyness.

Great vid man, cheers - enjoyed it. Was having a look at those Fender loaded pickguards, the ones around 150 mark with the the Texmex pickups. Ye see a wile lot of boys saying to replace the electronics/wiring/pots on a squier but Im wondering are the pickups AND the electronics better on those loaded pickguards than on a squier or is it just the pickups that are better. Feel like a lotta snobs out there would tell ye that the electronics on those pickguards need to be gutted too, haha.

The pickups are...but it's dead subjective. I've had a set of tex, and they were far too "tex" for me. I've had 300 quid pickups installed for a client that to me sounded crap but to them were a dream (marketing plus taste) and I've had a 20 quid set that I've loved. It's a gamble when you don't get to try them Had a few fenders and was sponsored by them. My fave strat pickups were a set on a Vintage strat (the brand not the age) As far as electronics go, something middle of the road is fine. I've cts, burns and off brand knobs coming through my door every week. The only thing I notice is the feel of the turning on them. Last year, for some reason, I had more cts pots fail han others TLDR - it's all snake oil. Your ears are the best critic. I know that's not much help but I'd say aim over the 40 quid mark and you'll not get anything microphonic or defective in terms of pickups

could i just buy a cheap loaded pickguard and upgrade the pickups with the specific ones I want?

You can. You can also go and replace other parts later in the scratch plate to build confidence in wiring and maintenance

at 5:43 the cavity beneath the pick guard is shown, does anyone know if that cavity is the same for a traditional S-S-S configuration? So you could replace your original S-S-S with a loaded pick guard that is H-S-S or H-S-H or even H-H or would you need to rout out some wood?

Hi rob. This guitar was originally SSS. You have to check the cavity in your guitar as each brand is different. Some have a "swimming pool" cavity that is an open rectangle. Others will have space for HSH and lastly some will only have space for SSS which will need to be routed. The only way to find out is to have a look

I see a lot of videos where there’s a fourth wire that they solder or attach to the shielding in the body cavity. But some videos like yours don’t have this. Is it optional? Or is it only necessary if you have full cavity shielding? Thanks

Honestly, I think the music Lily sounds better than the Wilkerson, but like you said it is subjective

Thank you. This is exactly what I have been looking for. Can I ask you a question? I am thinking about taking the paint off the body of my strat and staining the wood.. have you any thought on this?

I've done it. Use a heat gun and scraper and then sand it (and try not to burn it). Some cheaper strata can be 3 pieces of wood glued together so be aware of that

The gamble with Fender stuff is counterfeits. I am sure there are hundreds of counterfeits out there.

There are, with people putting decals on headstocks etc. Fakes are pretty easy to spot if you know a few things to look for. TBH it's so easy to find a cheap but quality instrument now, it's not worth taking a chance for a brand name. Always best if you're into getting a fender to just buy new
