Dimash has a wonderful way of playing with the guttural runs that you can hear in Mongolia and other parts of his home region (Kazakstan, Azerbaijan etc). It's also nice to hear a piece that is not just pulling off some of the usual tricks and shows his ability to be smooth in an emotional song aswell. He is simply fantastic!

Hi Caleb, thank you once again for a beautiful reaction of Dimash! In 2017 just after I became Dimashified, I came across this video ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-2PS_jQc6HFQ.html. Unfortunately no English sub titles, but otherwise fairly well understood? and I could follow the gist of it.. His parents, grand parents and probably teachers who featured in his career, were involved in this program. I am not sure but it seems that Maira Mukhamedkyzy might have been one of his singing teachers, and she features in this program from about the 38 minute mark for the next 10 minutes. I especially mention her, as I/we came to know this song: Akkuym, as sung as a duet by the two of them. It also shows her and a young Dimash's impromptu short performance of Akkuym during an event which I wish I knew more about. Anyway, once again the two of them perform Akkuym - as beautiful and passionate as ever. If you have the time (????) please watch this whole video, as there are precious clips that is not easy to find elsewhere. It becomes clear that this is a very close family and that he has a excellent relationship with his mentors.Thanks for reading up to this point!🇿🇦

That instrument is Armenian Duduk. The duduk or tsiranapogh, which means “apricot made clarin” is an ancient Armenian double reed woodwind instrument made of apricot wood.

Oh that makes sense. It did sound like a clarinet, but something about it was slightly different. Thanks for letting me know :)

The lyrics were written by the same person who wrote the lyrics to "Unforgettable Day", Oral Baisengir. The instrument that sounds sort of like a clarinet at the beginning is an Armenian duduk. Here's another example : ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-LsgJZ-ngmvo.html You can tell by the vibrato. It was also used at the beginning of "Know". There is a live version of "My Swan" with an opera singer at the Bastau concert. The swan, symbolizing purity has been used in Kazakh poetry for centuries.

Maybe I am weird! 🤣 But after seeing all the guys and their makeup, dyed hair and crazy/fun outfits, it is always nice to come back to you and see a guy with a beard and a hairy chest. You must be rolling on the floor at that one! (No, I am NOT hitting on you!) Plus, no one can beat Dimash and his talent. I love this M/V. Dimash will always remain the most incredible singer imho. 🙃

I love when you clarify that you are not hitting on him 😂 it wasn’t necessary, it was very clear you weren’t. Anyway, my point is that we, the older generation, has been taught by our younger ones and sometimes we even realize it. I hear all the time straight guys opening their mouths in admiration to say (about Dimash), wow, his voice and he’s gorgeous. I simply love the security on the guys that can admit the beauty of another guy, knowing that doesn’t imply they are hitting on them. You’re not weird, you have assimilated our new generation style 😊

Here are the English lyrics: My precious love, you looked for happiness with another. I did not lose hope, I missed you my love, Why did the flowers of our love wither? The mystery of our withering love is now solved. You did not look back when you left me. Our pure feelings have turned cold. [Chorus] My swan, my dear, my dream My morning dawn Why did your feelings change? I dedicated my soul to you, my love. I did not understand the blank look in your eyes. We cannot stop fate, goodbye my dear. Your heart has grown cold. This is the last time that I will share with you, I wish you happiness as you leave, I can never stop missing you You were my companion but the fire of love went out. Let these thoughts be the song I wrote for you [Chorus] My swan, my dear, my dream My morning dawn Why did your feelings change? I dedicated my soul to you, my love. I did not understand the blank look in your eyes. My swan, my dear, my dream My morning dawn Why did your feelings change? I dedicated my soul to you, my love. This is the one song of Dimash's that I prefer the MV arrangement for. It is just so beautiful. I have it on my phone so when I'm away from phone signal, at hospital especially, I can listen to it to distract me. It is just such a wonderful song both in terms of the vocals and the instrumentation. So glad you got to see it! P.s. there's also so much wonderful detail paid to the construction of the song. Even the one kind of anguished rock scream in the background towards the end is just so wonderfully done

Nice explanatory touch with your guitar, Caleb. You're making me hungry for guitar music again. I, too, liked the instrumental aspects of this song, and Dimash's melismas are gorgeous. But what struck me most about the video was how well the videographer told the song's story. No frantic jump cuts, no weird camera angles, no videographer's story unrelated to the song's lyrics, and no neglecting the singer. Some of the other music videos Dimash has been in have not fared nearly as well, from the videography standpoint. This time, the videographer's art gently enhances the singer's art, rather than overwhelming it with extraneous nonsense. And it doesn't do too much, either. Elon Musk is fond of telling us, the highest art in engineering is deleting the unnecessary. Simplify! I think this advice applies well to the art of videography, too. (I lack the expertise to know if the advice also applies to music. Sometimes, maybe?) Remember the music video for 'Love of Tired Swans?' There's nothing in the lyrics about amputation of wings, cages, suffering, torture, or magical electrical discharges. The videographer selfishly decided to tell his own story and ignore the song's story. With the added frantic jump cuts, it's a horrid mess of a video which just happens to contain a lovely song and a fantastic singer. That is just about the worst of Dimash's music videos, I think, from a videography standpoint. (The sound editing is good, however.) The 'Screaming' music video is nearly as bad. Frantic jump cuts, psychedelic camera angles, Dimash appearing in costume after costume with no rationale for it, Dimash going for a swim with his clothes on, a piano in a forest for no obvious reason, it's another visual mess. If you hook up with a videographer at some point, Caleb, don't let him run away with the project. A light touch, avoiding the unnecessary, and avoiding telling the wrong story will be important to the end result. If you're singing about a fire truck (not an actual suggestion!), you don't need the video to show sword fighting, sex scenes, bridge construction, sky diving or whatever. And if it's a music video, the singer had better get 80%+ of the camera's full attention, without nutty jump cuts or unnecessary costume changes or psychedelic camera angles to confuse and distract the viewer. Keep it simple and focused, *then* worry about making the video pleasing to the eye. This advice still leaves plenty of room for art and creativity, but it must be harnessed to the song's message and the singer, or it's no good. Cheers!
@CalebColesMusic
@CalebColesMusic 4 года назад
I'm with you 100% on the music video. Although I forgot to say it clearly, the video really does draw the attention to the song and it's meaning rather than away from it. It feels very natural; just a perfect fit. I didn't mind his other videos, but I also didn't love them. This one however I really do like, it feels like it adds to the experience rather than just being arty for the sake of needing a video. I haven't made too many music videos because of the high production cost. It is surprising just how much it costs even for something simple. I might try my hand at making one myself; although depending on how it turns out it may never see the light of day haha!
@Urgelt
@Urgelt 4 года назад
@@CalebColesMusic I will encourage you. It need not be terribly expensive; but it does need a good visual concept to fit the song. There are tricks to keep costs down. For example, you can get *almost* a steadycam effect with an inexpensive, preferably heavy, tripod. Attach your camera, fold the legs, grip the tripod in one hand at the balance point between top and bottom. Hold out your arm. As you move, the camera will be remarkably steady. Your arm might get tired! But your wallet won't. Stage sets are expensive to create, but the natural world, farms and the like are almost free - just the cost of transportation and the effort of obtaining permission, if applicable. Choose carefully and you can get beautiful shots. Recruit friends. Treat them to lunch. It's cheaper than hiring pros, though maybe slower, you might need more takes. Time can be traded off for expense. A big professional production burns money like water, so you're always under immense pressure to go fast. But a group of friends can take their time and get it right (hopefully!). Be ruthless when editing. Knowing what to take out in order to deliver a coherent story is 70% of the art. Maybe more. You can experiment when shooting, but never be in love with an experiment. When editing, delete anything unnecessary, anything that doesn't enhance the song's story, no matter how creative or beautiful it is. You can always release outtakes separately if you think there is merit in footage that didn't quite fit the song's needs. Bloopers footage is fun, too. Consider editing them into a separate video! Or you could put together a mini-documentary about the making of the music video. Interviews with volunteers, scenes that didn't go right, bloopers, lunchtime. None of it need cost very much. It's just footage on a memory card, downloaded to your computer. The real work begins in editing. Most people may not think much about it, but tech has delivered powerful creative capabilities into the hands of nonprofessionals, or professionals on a tight budget, for that matter. If you don't have a digital camera, you can borrow one - lots of inexpensive but amazing cameras are owned by ordinary folks. You already have video and sound editing software and skill in using them. All it really takes is your time and those of your volunteers, and the cost of traveling and lunch. Maybe several lunches. And a good visual concept that fits the song, of course. But it *is* a lot of work to get a good result. I'll sympathize with you if you decide it's not the best use of your time. Good luck, Caleb!

In my opinion, this song is about betrayal and his forgiveness. The girl was calculating and at the opportunity changed the poor young student to a rich, though elderly, patron. Only the poor student generously at the end says "be happy" ///////////////// Большого диапазона не было, зато была большая душа и дивный, ни на кого не похожий голос Димаша. На мой взгляд, эта песня о предательстве и его прощении.. Девушка оказалась расчетливой и при удобном случае поменяла бедного молоденького студента на богатого, хотя и немолодого, покровителя. Definitely one of the most underrated Dimash songs for me... it's not "spectacular" in the way Dimash is known for, but it's soulful... and THAT is Dimash's greatest talent above all others.... making us feel. ❤

Yes, Its a beautiful bittersweet song. Whether its based on "Real' experience, doesnt matter. It taps into our universal desire to be loved, however sometimes the timing is off. The swan imagery to a beloved woman is lovely. Dimash has a large catalogue of songs. But not so many specifc music videos, as he films concerts or live performances . Please do consider doing an english version, it would be lovely too.

Hello Caleb :the song ,akkuym (my swan) was written 20 years ago by the Kazakh poet: ORAL BAYSENGIR and musicalized by: MURAT MAZHIEKBAEB ,kazakh too , from Aktobe. In 2017 he collaborated with Dimash on the song: unforgettable day. Bye and thanks for the reaction. I love Dimash.

In the original video you are reviewing, there is a 'SHOW MORE" under the Channel tag. the composer, arranger, lyricist plus 20 or so other individual contributors to the video are listed. Thanks for your reaction, I also really like, love this Dimash performance. It is a studio performance, but as usual, the attention to vocal and orchestral aspects are remarkable. The visual also adds something, that is the main difference between most Dimash live performances, something that's just not possible live is all the staged and constructed visuals. Thank You!

I think this song is very very beautiful, in Kazakh language it has a special beauty. The music is so gentle and wonderful and Dimash's emotional tender interpretation is absolutely amazing! But the entire video affects me in such a depressive way, total despair, I saw it once and was not able to listen to it more. Dimash originally sang this song with one Kazakh opera singer, Maira Mukhamedkyzy. She was one of the jurors in a Kazakh competition of young talents (the winner was Dimash, of course) and praised him much and said she would like to sing with him. So they sang this song together, wonderfully! As a duet, it was sad but not as depressive. Thank you Caleb for your always positive face and lovely smile, this video is bearable with this. :)
