Congratulations on the video! The NAMplayer is amazing, I love mine. I will soon create a second follow-up "re-review" of mine, sharing some presets and some tweaks, since there were also some firmware updates. The updates especially show the commitment of the people at DIMEHEAD to deliver on this product, and there seems way more underway for this thing to rock our world.
@@EngiNeer-ec8nkHard to measure for me. I don't think it's capless, if you have different NAM models.loaded, so from clean to distorted or so, there seems a bit of a gap. However, a good chunk smaller than the gap on ToneX. But what I found was that when using the same NAM profile, but with different EQ settings, Delay etc. so for a solo boost for example, the switch was pretty much gapless. I think a new video on this subject is overdue where I compare the ToneX vs. NAM and showcase a few things.
Big bravo for the DIME HEAD team... and everyone behind the NAM universe... What an incredible team effort and result of You all. Leo, couldn't be replaced by anyone better to present it to the world/
How great to see a manu building a pedal with a processor featuring dedicated DSP so soon after all our discussions. It’s only the beginning. The ARM processor line is designed with just this sort of application in mind. Others will need to get with it! Last but by no means least - WOW to your musical intro in this video. You are doing really special things with your channel and I am enjoying it very much, Leo.
Love mine!!!! It blows the QC because of the great feel and huge tones…!! NAM is the best capture tech today and this hardware is stunning. I mean the build quality, every component is pro audio level. That’s crazy how they managed to offer that in a sub 1k machine.
I totally agree, yet the "cheapos" or "NAM open source rebels" rant about the price point continuously 😅 let those be 'happy' with the cheaper solutions or the plugins. EVERYTHING about the NAM Player Pedal is reasonable!✌️
If this unit had an effects loop where I could put pedals before they hit the IR, it would be an auto-buy. At this price point, I need to consider the HX stomp as well
@@dylanjastle I get why you may say that, but a couple of NAM profiles are pre-amp + powerstage already, or include a pedal boost already. And for Reverb & Delay you have something aboard already, that will probably evolve. BTW, gain pedals in front of NAM Playrr interact beautifully with the model!
I just wanted to congratulate you for the quality of your videos and demos. The production quality is off the chart both in terms of videography and audio quality, mixing, tone and playing. And this NAM player looks very interesting for sure... I probably don't need it but may get one to support this endeavor and the open source NAM ecosystem.
Great demo song, I can always tell your playing from everyone elses (your signature style is very strong). This is a good "first shot" pedal and I'll probably wait for 2.0 with a fix to some of the short comings. I'm still very impressed with the Tone X pedals. Can't wait to hear more songs and videos comparing this pedal with Tone X and the other modelers. God bless and rock on 👍😎🎸
I’m very excited to see the manus responding to the market. It sure took a while. All that said, this pedal is severely crippled for those who need additional I/O. The display is not much to be excited about either. And third, the price is quite high considering the above. It’s a bold experiment and I wish them well.
so now we have all the functionality of the tonex pedal without IK's insufferable license manager and microtransactions. couldn't ask for more, perfect device!
IMO, even if it lost in the null test, it would be a fantastic thing just for being a NAM player. The huge advantage of NAM is that you're not tied to a product, a brand, a proprietary technology, your tones will be free, just like with IRs.
"What do we want more?" - A Kemper Stage killer from Dimehead. Stereo, some good effects around it, digital outputs, external clocking, in the spirit of keeping latency low. ;D Thanks for your video!
Second 😂 This is a very interesting pedal. I'm impressed by its accuracy and especially by that low latency. I mean 0.5ms is literally nothing. I am curious if more pioneers will jump on the train and if this year will see more nam players. That is what you should expect, I think. Thanks for the video.
Congrats Leo for the video. May I suggest an incremental video for this one? NAM has tons of amps and IR profiles for free. Yours 2cents for a bunch of them would be really valuable. Congrats NAM, you did also a great job.
Than you, I'm really happy that you appreciate the video! Interesting point....even if I feel kind of judging the profiles of other users....I have to think about it Thank you!
I do believe that even biased by your personal teste people here would like To know your opinion as a great speciaist you are. Second of all, an open free ecosystem needs not only common users reviews but profissional ones. Think about it. All the best.
Leo, your intro song is too much for the pedal… what do I mean? Your intro song takes us to the “cosmos” and then you go straight into the pedal which is back to earth… 😂 Maybe 2 videos: 1. Your intro song… let that sink in 😊 2. Another separate video for the pedal after intro song has been fully appreciated lol Thanks for the review!
seems like a killer product that still has to be polished. Maybe on next iteration they get it perfect and address issues, for example I agree that the screen is quite small and letters cant be seen properly.
Superb video, thanks as usual Leo. It is much appreciated. 🙏 I have been meaning to ask you this for a while - Say, you have 4 products. 1 - A 50w tube amp head with 2 channels - Hughes and Kettner Statesman EL34 2 - A NAM Player - 0.5 ms - 0.8 ms latency 3 - A modeller with 1.5 ms latency. 4 - A modeller with 2-2.5 ms latency If you were to compare the above 4 products on the basis of latency - 1) Is there a noticeable difference in the way the latency feels amongst the 4 products? If so, then how? 2) Does latency affect the way you play? If so, then how would it affect if you played the aforementioned 4 products? 3) At what stage for you in ms, does latency seriously start to become an issue for you? Thanks again. 🙏
You are welcome and I'm really happy that you appreciate the video!!! Well, these are all interesting questions....I think I need a video to answer....
They may not be the size of Boss, but we already know how seldom Boss provides firmware updates, and it would be hard to do much worse. 😂 (And I say that as someone who tends to prefer modeling to profiling and will be sticking with my Boss gear for now. But I’m really happy the NAM Player exists for those who will enjoy it.)
Sounds good but It might be limited for 600 euros. I was hoping it would directly compete with tonex and sell for 399$ US. You can pretty much say NAM is the best though for sound quality. But I think that interface is a little clunky. That XLR will definitely be a selling point for some people
Understanding the cost to build this unit can be a high out-of-pocket investment initially by the builder, however, this is the price to pay for a successful forecast acceptance. This being said, I agree, that the price to performance should at least match that of Tonex.
Yes, I post it here in the case someone need it: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Jfofqy_zj_A.html Thank you so much, I'm really happy that you like the video!
Lifelong fan of PinkTaco I can tell you that! Ouch..$200 more than my budget. I understand why they can't match TONEX $400 though. If this thing gets continued good reviews it's a likely purchse. Thank You Leo for the hard work that went into this video. Best Regards and Best Wishes!
So close to being a product I would purchase as an all in one portable solution but not being able to have reverb and delay at the same time is a deal breaker. Great review
By the way with an IR length of 4096 pts we could even model early reflexions (short reverb / room response) and include this in the IR.. I personnaly really like to add early reflexions when playing with modelers as it feels more natural, closer to the 'in the room' sound.
You can do both! There's a reverb IR loader included as well, which you can load any reverb/room IRs (upto 60 seconds in length).. NAM > Cab IR > Reverb IR
Good question! Maybe I'll do a video comparison. For sure the Kemper offers more effects but in terms of pure sound quality....the NAM Player should be ahead....
@@LeoGibsonGtr if I may suggest kpp, nam and tonex showdown. that would be a killer video. thanks for the content and keep the good work. cheers from brazil.
Here are my thoughts on this unit. I think it does offer some very good features. Ie: the processing power, the high end converters and DSP that's adds up to low latency, the ability to run convolution reverbs and high quality IR's. All add up to giving a very real amp feel I would hope. What I think are the short comings of the unit are simple. The hard to see and read screen. Many of us will be the same even with glasses have trouble seeing the screen, so not having a computer editor is a major issue. We should be able to do everything on the computer and transfer via USB to make it easier to see and set up, so it's ready for live use. Furthermore they made some odd choices with effects. Regardless of what some people will say. The delay was un-necessary and really just doesn't make sense. The reverbs due as you can emulate the real amps real spring reverbs through convolution reverbs, and reverb is very common on real tube amplifiers, where as delay is not. What would have been more useful is a noise-gate, compressor, and clean boost. The other possible option would an overdrive, but to many people want something different, and you can always include an overdrive in your profile with your amp when you Al make it. Otherwise it would be cool to be able to run a NAM overdrive profile in front of the amp profile. This would be more useful than the dealt. Most people will use pedals for their other effects anyway. The other thing that all profilers need NAM, Tonex, ML, Amperium. All of them are modeled tone stacks like Kemper is doing with liquid profiles. This to me is incredible useful, creative where you use a different tone stack than the amp, but allows you to control the amp like the real thing and need way less profiles. The generic tone stack like they currently use is useful too, but the real tons stack and gain structure of each amo Ales it more like using the real amp without having 50 profiles to do so. This is the main reason I still don't use profiling or capturing really and still Prefer traditional component models.
Hola Leo, cada vez veo mas amplificadores en tu estudio, pero el único amplificador que siempre utilizas para comparación es el Plexi, podrías comenzar a utilizar otros amplificadores para tus comparaciones? Soldano , evh, Mesa Boogie…. Gracias
Hi, I use the Plexi as it is the most "touch sensitive" and therefore it is a good platform to check out how the modellers react. Thank you for your suggestion!
Ok, so say i buy this, what else do I need to purchase to get the good FX? I don't want to skimp I want a decent amount of FX at any given time? How do I run FX pre/post? I need help!
Hi, I would add an overdrive pedal in front of the unit and then a chorus reverb a delay in stereo after the NAM Player....Maybe I will do a video about it.... Thank you!
It's nearest competitor using similar tech to NAM is the Amperium Live. However, they are based in Ukraine and are obviously suffering from many issues right now.
The price isn't a problem at all. 99% of us are home musicians who are happy with the plugin. We might take a cheap multieffects to an open mic and that's about it. But if one of us makes it big and can go touring as a professional musician, we'd have the same amp models as on our home workstations on the go.
Being mono, I would say that I don't need them (personal opinion) as I would put stereo effects after the NAM Player....but of course this is just my opinion. Thank you!
Great review Leo!! It’s truly amazing!! But I think this unit it’s a rip off, the amperium live came a lot earlier, same format, same processing power and a real fx chain with everything, can load NNM profiles and have a pc an Bluetooth app, so if you ask me I’ll go with that for the same price
Thank you, I'm really happy that you appreciate the review! May I ask you if you are sure that Amperium can load NAM profiles? As far as I remember Amperium uses other type of profiles (for instance training at 44.1 and not 48...)...but I may be wrong.... Thank you!
@@LeoGibsonGtr Ya sure, like I said, It loads NNM Profiles, not NAM, wich are basically the same, taking in cosideration your point in the sample rate it operates at 44.1 but the other functions makes the NAM player hard to choose.
Pretty cool product. I do wonder how it can compete with $180 Tonex one. The long IRs for reverb is very cool. I wish it had optical out for connecting to audio interface without additional D/A A/D conversion. The screen looks quite dated, I hope that doesn't hurt the sales of this product. Might have been better to have no screen at all and make it cheaper.
I've never tried the nam plugin but, listening to Leo, it's the most faithful to the real thing and I trust Leo. But I also agree with you. For quality/price ratio, reliability, updates, captures availability, I believe that ToneX is still the best choice.
Well, 30 ms is really toooooo much. For me latency is an important aspect, and impact how a unit "feel" under your finger. Furthermore latency sum up, therefore if you have a wireless system latency sum up, if you use other digital pedal, latency sum up etc...and the playing could become really uncomfortable.
When you consider that every digital effect in your chain will add its own latency, any device that minimises this will benefit the entire signal chain
