When the first episodes of this season came out they immediately established a totally different vibe than those of the previous campaigns. Something about the political intrigue and adding an extra sense of weight to the player's actions made it feel so much more serious and had me on the edge of my seat. This episode felt like a well deserved (and needed) victory not just for the characters but for me as a viewer too.
after watching critical role after this, i would say in terms of tension and character role-playing, the crown of candy is just as intense as them, if not more. brennan’s descriptions and background work as a DM really, really stood out for this season. would love to see another dnd show from him like this, despite all the anxiety they said they were having recording this.
@@mtljin I really think it's a "to each their own" thing. D20 is more of a compact experience, but CR reminds me of those long books where it feels like you live the years with the characters.
This will forever be my favorite episode of ACOC, and possibly any D20 show. When the stakes are so real, and victory isn’t guaranteed or even all that likely, wins like this are so much sweeter!
1:15 man... This just reminds me.. [SPOILERS FOR THE REST OF COC) I will never get over Jet's death, she had just accepted her position on the throne and was starting to get ready to make so many changes for the people and her kingdom. Honestly though, I do think Saccharina unintentionally (plot movies wise, it's probably more intentional in the game) was the best person to inherent the throne after Jet, idk, many feelings I can't explain.
@@0SC2 but it was from the previous episode if I remember correctly. So not technically a nat20 in this episode but a nat20 that severely impacted the episode.
I definitely am not against continuations of any of their mainline campaigns, but as much as ACOC season 2 would be cool I see it happening less than, say, a continuation of FH or ASO simply because of how intense ACOC was compared to their usual playing enjoyment. That and the story ends in a pretty good place, so it'd have to be another major thing for it to be same character cast (Amethar/Ruby/Theo/Liam/Cumulous/Saccharina), or they'd have to do different characters (backups for the few of them that didn't die during the first season, same or new characters for Zac and Emily since their first characters did die). I'm not gonna hold out hope that ACOC continues but I definitely wouldn't be disappointed if it did
