Overlooking the River Tywi stands Dinefwr Castle (Dynevor). With spectacular views of the surrounding parkland the visit and the short trek up the hill are well worth the effort. Spring time envelops the castle in flowers of all colours and the open grassy areas below allow for family picnics to remember.

---- Short History ----
- Possibly constructed by Rhodri the Great in the mid 9th century. But no archeological evidence can confirm this.
- Dinefwr later became the chief seat of Rhodri's grandson Hywel Dda, first ruler of Deheubarth and later king of most of Wales.
- Rhys ap Gruffydd, ruler of Deheubarth from 1155 to 1197, is thought to have rebuilt the castle.
- Rhys ap Gruffydd also built the spectacular castle at Carreg Cennen.
- When Rhys died the castle passed to his son Rhys Gryg. The earliest parts of the modern castle come from this period.
- When Llywelyn the Great extended into the area Rhys dismantled the castle. But Llywelyn restored it and kept it until his death in 1240.
- After passing through more hands Rhys ap Maredudd helped King Edward I capture it in 1277. He had been promised the castle but Edward lied and had him executed in 1291. And Dinefwr fell into English hands.
- In 1317, it was given to Hugh Despenser, the king's favourite.
- It was unsuccessfully besieged by the forces of Owain Glyndŵr in 1403.
- Towards the end of the 15th century, extensive rebuilding was carried out by its current owner, Sir Rhys ap Thomas.
- His grandson Rhys ap Gruffydd (1508-December 1531) was executed for treason and the Crown took the castle. The family managed to reclaim it though.
- In 1660, Newton House was constructed nearby and the castle was modified as a summer house.
- The late 18th century, the roofs were destroyed by fire and the castle was abandoned.
- The 20th century, efforts were taken to renovate and save the castle from further deterioration.
