I went there a few years ago. The grand staircase is unbelievable and the imposing size and grandeur of the castle when standing outside is like being in a lord of the rings film. Amazing place!
One of my ancestors, William de Troublevilla, occurs in the Norman Exchequer Rolls of 1180-95. Payne de Turbeville witnessed the foundation charter of Neath Abbey.
@@WildBikeCamper It's a beautiful place for a visit but I don't recommend it in peak summertime tbh. The castle itself is located on a hillside so there are very few flat spots. The few flat spots that are there are just too visible in the farmers field (with sheep all around). The spots that were out of sight were absolutely plastered in forests of nettles and rubble everywhere... It's really not an easily campable spot in any form tbh but you may get better luck in the Autumn once all the nettles have died back.
@@boyzinthewood1 Appreciate the detailed reccy feedback! I'd have dragged my bike over there along the river and pitched by the bank - am thinking the line of trees might be enough of a barrier to keep the sheep at bay? I can 🔪the nettles- As long as it's quiet!
@WildBikeCamper the path was definitely fine for a camp, but it's still in a very open farmers field. Personally, I wouldn't risk it as you've got a very good chance of being spotted if he jumps in his tractor early in the morning. I had a two man tent on me at the time, if you have a single tent or a bivy you'll definitely have more luck there than I did.
Many historians doubt that the Silures were defeated. Caerwent was built by the Romans FOR the Silures to run as a civitas, and they kept their royal line intact. They had fought the Romans to a standstill for thirty years, easily the most dangerous tribe faced by the Romans in Britain, as Tacitus admitted. Some believe the two sides came to a peace treaty, signed at Cardiff, in Welsh Caerdydd, the City of the Treaty or Agreement.
It gone now think it happend November 2023 but only thing they wont knock down is Church and memorial headstones it pretty sad tho.😢 They are buliding new homes around it and think they add gym and others like that aswell
Rudolph Hess, was held here after flying to Scotland for his so called peace talks ? Remember my Dad taking us here late 50s / early 60s, it was in a better state of repair then...maybe one more visit !l
Not before time!! I've watched the decay for years, but, frustratingly, sweet sod all I could do about it. It must NOT be allowed to disappear. I'll join whatever to help in whatever way I'm still able to.
When I lived in Wales I lived close to three Welsh Castles. Castle Coch. Caerphilly Castle and Cardiff Castle. Other Welsh Castles were not to far away also
Crazy how he can be nice and welcoming to people but beats up and subjects his ex girlfriend’s to emotional and physical abuse she’s exposed him on TikTok the coward
Hi. It’s not open to the public unfortunately. We got special permission to film. But they do run events there and you can contact them for more information.
You could visit Germany where they built some fantasy Disney castles in the modern era that served no military purpose. And hundreds of castles would be more than a 'bunch'
@@Darrenski Really? Long toes? About every country in Europe has medieval castles, mate. Furthermore I know most important castles in Wales on the border were destroyed in history after England took over, just didn't expect there would be nothing left, anywhere. As I said, bummer.
@@Darrenski are you for real? A castle perhaps, not a hill where one used to stand. You do know there are plenty of castles that still stand, right, from the same damn period you seem to glorify. You can be proud of your history without trying to sell a hill as a castle. Okay?
There was no such thing as Wales or Welsh then. If he even existed. He was king of the Britons not the Welsh, and other locations like Cornwall, Glastonbury and Scotland also have their own claims to that. You're simply going off that book written by those two guys years ago where someone found a silver cross. That is literally the only supposed evidence. And it's a subject I've been researching for over 40 years so I know nobody can make such a claim. If so then provide your evidence

@@Darrenski I am afraid in UK you cant. There is an association called National Trust and unless agreed for business purposes by them, they have a blanket ban over national monuments. You can fly if you take off or land from public ground as not all of their sites have a blue restriction active. Seems you need to book up. Thanks for your reply though.
Excellent presentation, great drone shots, I bet CADW really loves you, how about Manorbier, Pembroke. Tretower, Castle Coch, Ogmore, Coity, Newcastle (Bridgend), Newport and the host of others in the next edition..
The trip is wonderful of great wallace monument, its nice and splendid! Fantastic and relaxing for a walk tour! It is so enjoyable to be in there! Like!
