Well done. Like to see people recycle stuff and make / repurpose into something grand like your wee boat. Cheers from Scott sailing Clare, a lug rigged Scamp.
Thanks Chris, yes I thought it a novel idea to have the Heron insignia up however I will use the actual main off the boat once I am happy with the size as this one is off a much older Heron.
Hi Bruce, what fibreglass system do you like to use if you dont mind me asking? And where do you buy? I'm at Dee Why on the Northern Beaches. I am just starting my Heron conversion, which is a very very old timber boat that was never finished correctly. My conversion will be similar to yours but with furling main and mizzen (both with booms), sliding rowing seat and lee boards to open up the entire boat. No cuddy planned at this stage, but I do plan to use it for beach camping. I'm thinking of a small dodger that can be pulled up when required.
@@brucedyson-smith459 it's the concept and play boat ideas that are so good. Love your vids champ. Always appreciate them and the simplicity yet adventure potential of dingy sailing the way you guys do it 👌
Bruce we'll have to talk. I have a new cat boat and she has a massive mainsail. Everyone in my little sailing group reckons I should have a smaller main and mizzen......cue Bruce's Heron conversion to a cat-mizzen. I'll catch up with you one of these days when I come down to Myall or something Sydney Raid does.
Hi Bruce, I recently bought an exracing Heron and I'm thinking of changing the rig to a balanced lug. I'm wondering if you considered a lug rig. And if yes can you help with details of the rig - sizes of mast, yard and boom? Is the current position of the mast ok for a balanced lug? Much appreciated Rick
Hi Ric, I didn’t consider a lug rig as I am not familiar with them. I used the same basic sail area as the standard rig with my main and mizzen combined. I guesstimated my mast position for the yawl rig but I don’t know if you would need to move it for a single Lugsail. I think you can change the balance of a lugsail by moving the yard and boom forward or aft so may help if the mast position is slightly out. I hope this helps. I do recall someone else doing what you are planning and he moved the mast 100mm forward from memory.
