In taking psychology of human relations, my professors always said “when was the last time you got all dressed up to treat yourself out to a nice dinner?” Most people say never since they don’t eat alone. That stayed with me all these years. They encourage us to find comfort in eating, dining, going on movie dates or trips alone. And so I think you’re amazing for doing this and supporting your friend. You are right that it’s all part of the growth process. And I hope it won’t be your last time in a restaurant and treating yourself to a nice meal or feeling dressed up for you.
I studied psychology briefly and yea, spending time in your own company and feeling good about it is actually very healthy. I cook for living so trips to good restaurants on my own are not that foreign to me. Your professor used a really good example :)
I used to go to the movies alone and really enjoyed it. Sometimes I would go when there was less crowd and I would see other "lonely" cats at the cinema. I actually really enjoyed the experience.
Hell I prefer movies alone than with any companions, even my best friends who basically have the same movie taste. I would eat nothing and just throw my phone in my bag and just be there in the dark to watch. I don't have to be embarrassed if I cry or laugh. God I love it!! It's really just enjoying the movies and enjoy your own emotions.
I love traveling alone, eating a nice restaurants alone, watching a movie alone and even staycation alone. It feels more relaxed and there are no pressures from others or don't need to consider other people's feelings.haha
I dined alone at a fancy restaurant last week while I was on a work trip. I felt so self conscious at the beginning but realised that no one around actually cared and definitely helped with my self growth journey ☺️
Good for you! I hope you continue to experience your own company and learn to enjoy it. People often look over and stare because they are confused and feel like they need to help. This can be triggering for your self consciousness, but as soon as they see that you are doing well, they happily get back to their own meals. ✌🏼

I’m divorced and I often dine alone, I love it. It’s empowering to enjoy your own company. To find solace in your own environment is the type of peace no one can shatter. When dining in nice places in London, I do get looks and the neighbouring tables have sometimes started conversations. When they realise how comfortable I am, they are in awe.
It cannot wrap my head around the fact that doing certain things alone is seemed as weird. It’s so crazy. For me, dining alone at a fancy restaurant is just as normal as going with a date or sometimes even better.
Just curious, are you European. My family and I are not American and we have the same mindset that its okay to be alone. I find alot of people I'm the states have to be around others
same ive seen people being afraid to watch movies alone when it is literally one of my biggest hobbies, it offers so much privacy like who's there to judge you in the cinema

I am french and things like dining alone at a great restaurant or going to a nightclub by yourself are commonly considered as weird here, but I think it does just come from the fear of a lot of people to do these things. I personnally do this kind of things, and if I end up talking about it people are mostly surprised but it always feel like they would love to be able to do it too.

Like I can actually even imagine some of my friends seeing that and saying things like "oh look at that girl she's all alone did she get stood up?" in a pitying but condescending way. I completely get you shouldn't live for strangers opinions but I'd say it takes a certain level of courage and confidence
I'm 30 (guy) and one time I dined solo at a 2 Star Michelin restaurant in London on a Friday night. It felt very awkward and felt like everyone was staring... But after a cocktail, I just stopped caring. It ended up being one of the best night of my stay in London
In many Asian countries they have private booths for people who want to dine alone. Wish the west would hurry up and adopt that, I have so many restaurants I would like to visit and being a loner I'd have to go alone but I don't like eating alone either.
I think being alone at a cafe or restaurant is one of the best thing in my life. Not that I dont hv friend to hang with but I prefer to be alone sometimes. More freedom, less talk and enjoy the food without distraction. I just couldnt believe I’m replying to PeePee

"not as good as i remember" is exactly how i feel about halal guys too. My first time trying it, I got some after visiting MoMA and it was cold out. That warm food and spicy sauce hit so good; it was a near religious experience. It has never lived up to that first time :(

I remember I purposely went out to dine in a Japanese restaurant in Asakusa alone and it is still the most memorable dining experience ever. When you have no one to interact you put more attention into enjoying the view, the sound, the people (customers), the food which makes that experience even more profound. You guys should try it too
One of my biggest regrets is never going to a concert to see one of my favorite bands because I had nobody to go with. Ever since then I’ve found solace in doing things alone
Exactly, I started doing things by myself a few years ago and have learned to love it. I will obviously invite my friends to places and go places with them, but if I want to do something being solo won’t stop me

true, I'm living in Singapore and being an introvert myself, I enjoy my quiet and calm time in eating alone at lunch/dinner. People around me would normally ask why and gave me the pity look, which I don't understand. I feel like I meet my coworkers almost everyday during meetings, discussions 5 days a week. So lunch time, dinner time are my private vacation to my own bubble...

dude yes!! dining alone at fancy restaurants is actually such a vibe. I went back to visit my home city back in May after being away for nearly a year, and I booked myself a fancy ass dinner at an expensive steakhouse and ate by myself at their outdoor patio in the middle of downtown. everybody else went inside and I was so perplexed because the weather was perfect, and the server was super friendly and chill because I was just a scrub by myself instead of some Armani-clad stock broker. your videos are such a fun vibe, thank you for showcasing cool places to eat in New York! ALSO PS I appreciate you showing that you spilled sauce on yourself because I literally do this all the time and it's nice to see people like showing that they are indeed human, like me 😂

As an introvert, it's so scary but deep inside of me wants to push myself to actually go out alone. My friends and family just don't seem to have time to go out with me when I want to, so I just end up at home browsing my phone and watching youtube. watching your vlogs sort of help me to see how it's like going out alone and treating one's self some personal time. I've traveled around a lot of big cities in America for no apparent reason, and I can say I honestly love traveling alone, you get to dictate exactly what you want to see and do. I feel bad for anyone who can't find pleasure in doing this! Sometimes It's okay if the world doesn't know what you're doing for a week or two, as long as you do.
When you're running around the city so much, you forget to drink water sometimes. And it's basically a strategic move, because good luck finding bathrooms
Dining by yourself is most definitely fine, I really enjoy dining by myself in really high end and fine dining restaurants, well for the following reasons 1. It saves me the trouble of having to look for friends/people that are willing to spend $$$$ on food and wine 2. I don't have to worry about the availability of others 3. It allows me to better interact with the staff and learn more about the restaurant as well. 4. Lastly I am better able to appreciate the food, wine, ambience and experience So give it a few more tries! You might actually enjoy it a lot.
Whenever you get halal cart food in New York, I suggest getting it from the smaller carts like those in the financial district or on 5th Avenue. Usually those are way better than halal guys and cheaper too for around the same amount of food.
Ok this has inspired me to go out alone more and experience things. I’m in my late 20’s, I should stop caring and just enjoy things a lot more than I am!

Hi Tina, I love your videos! There is no shame in dining alone I used to do it all the time and sometimes still do! It can be an even better experience because you can just focus on your self and the food and not have to worry about the other person and whether or not they enjoy their food and keeping conversation. Keep up the great videos!!

I actually go out to eat alone all the time, i also go to the movies alone, and just recently, went to a concert by myself, been doing it since high school when friends didnt want to do the things i want to do, id just go alone and experience it to myself. 26 years later, i still doing it and its just so natural. 🙃 #singlesclub
Definitely, I agree with your take on Halal guys and this is coming from a New Yorker born and raised. The quality has dropped significantly ever since it became an FC. If you ever come to New York City again try the Halal cart on 6th on 18thst. I think they have one of the best in the city.
Agreed. Quality has reduced,. Never been to the location you referenced, but my corner halal food court in East Flatbush has the best platter combo. Never a disappointment.
I dined at a fancy hotel alone cuz my friend cancelled last minute and I don’t want to just order room service. It was actually really nice with great food+service+night view and no one cared that I was alone. One downside is I don’t have people to share appetizers with :(

Whenever I go on vacay I buy a gallon of water at a time to have in my hotel room. I fill my water bottle everyday and just having it there makes me drink it :)

There's a Filipino dish called pinakbet which has eggplant. Instead of pork, I use the entire shrimp for the main flavoring of sauce. Give it a try one day. You were dressed perfectly for your dinner😊 I like your style.

I like traveling solo because I can enjoy, observe and learn and feel completely fulfilled. There's no unadulterated opinions to distract me from the new city/food/culture, etc. that lies in front of me. You probably noticed the nuances of each dish more so had you been dining with someone. Learning to be with yourself is the best. Congratulations!

IDK why rolling solo is seen as anything other than a fantastic way to enjoy your own company. Especially traveling solo, dressing to the nines, and then going somewhere fancy like this looks. Honestly before I got married especially when I was a gaybie I would absolutely dine alone and I loved it!! This is entirely motivating.
It's called a tasting menu. You get a little of a lot of different tasting things. In the end you'll be eating a lot. Imagine you eat a huge ass burger. It tastes good for like 2 or three bites and then you don't even know what it tastes like anymore
Because the food isn’t meant to fill you up with one entree. Imagine eating a full bowl of roe, or caviar. Not gonna be good. Hey feed you a lot of small dishes that each should taste amazing for the duration that the small amount lasts you, and doesn’t give you the chance to get sick of it.
