The last comment or advice given by br. Salam Jones is so true. Our third, fourth Bengali generations have lost the bangla language, the food and culture is nearly lost. ID is also disappearing. But Islam is being revived. We are torn between Islam, British and Bangladeshi. Islam is the most important though.

Salam sounds like a cool dude. He is on point about our cultural amnesia amongst our younger generation . Personally my younger siblings in their late teens and earLy 20s barely speak Bengali at home with parents {if they talk to each other at all). I think it won’t be an easy task to preserve the memory of our roots especially as Bangladesh isn’t a destination young people want to visit.

Brick Lane used to be a buzzing place in the olden days. Leather factories, cloth factories, Indian should Bengaldeshi restaurants. Now a lot of Bengali have moved more to the East,, Barking, Dagenham, Redbridge , East Ham etc. Leather factories are gone. Only a few Indian restaurants are left. May be five. Masjid is still there. Simple and big masjid. Brick Lane is catering more for other cultures now. More a night life style

Nice blog bhai I also live in Camden , London. Ash bhai,it would nice if you could do a blog on Sheffield Bangladeshi community, I now it was very dynamic in the 80s. Many worked in the steel and cutlery industry, it would be nice to know how they are getting on ?just a thought .
