I did a quick search and I didn't see anything on the bike that would make me think this wouldn't work on that bike.

Can the backlight stay on or does it only light temporarily?

It doesn't stay on. It turns on for four seconds when you press any button. The clock as to be set to 24hr mode and it only turns on between the hours of 6pm-6am (18:00-06:00).
