In 2002 I was in the hospital for attempting to end my own life. There was an old woman in the bed across from me, and she'd sing this song randomly, in such a silly way. She had a stroke and couldn't move from her waist down. It was so sad but she tried to cheer me up. I would sit beside her bed on and off over 2 months. She couldn't move, and she was still singing. I've tried to find it over the years without success. I'm watching Emily in Paris on Netflix and they mention this song. It's 2024 and I've found it. Coincidently I'm going through a really hard time, and this reminded me to be grateful to simply be alive. What timing.
Why is Dionne Warwick a National Treasure in the Music Industry: Her vocals can't be duplicated, nobody sounds likes Dionne, and yes one of our Greatest Vocals of all Time.
The way Warwick walk's out on that stage is captivating in and of itself. A classy classy lady and she makes the song all her's like no one else can. It's Dionne's.
When singers didn't need: autotune, gymnastics, tattoos, voice manipulations, 10,000 people behind you dancing and gyrating! Jus a pure vocal and a great arrangement played by a REAL ORCHESTRA! I'm so happy I grew up in this era. I was 14 years old when this song came out.
Yes!! The great Martha Wash, who was, as still is extremely underrated because of her overweight appearance, said pretty much the same thing. These young people today don't even understand what real, true, and good music and singing is.
just came from cynthia erivo's performance and ms. warwick looks so beautiful and i love how emotional she sings it. Both ladies did so well and it is so fortunate to have music with incredible singers to back it up
The artist of a lifetime. There will never be another Dionne Warwick..or a songwriting team like Burt & Hal. I miss the days of the great entertainers.
Bacharach, David and Dionne=the finest ear candy ever. God almighty she is so great. I can't imagine life without her catalog of work. I love Dionne Warwick, I really do.
@@cindipossidento5688 Yes. The song "Forever My Love" can have that effect on me as well. "Alfie," especially her version, is highly emotive and dramatic as well.
I wish gowns and pretty fashion would come back. I loved the 50's fashions.. today's tatty excuses makes some girls look cheap.. no style.. this lady had style by the bucketful...
@@elliekatesmith6363 The formal style was much better back then. This appearance was from the 1967 Academy Awards. She was the 43rd artist to record "Alfie," but the first to make it a hit. She was 26 years old in this performance. There was both style and substance. The current crop of young women could learn style cues from these types of blasts from the past. Good style and substance is still appreciated.
+fool4singing I love how idiots love to debate my comments. Rock has produced some of the most vulgar music that's ever been created. Please miss me with one of the most overrated things in the universe references. Rock at a point was so dark it had to split into different genres. Of you're going to debate at least come in with no type of bias.
This is one of those touchstone moments in musical history. The perfect matchup of song, orchestration and voice. The definitive live performance of "Alfie."
@@LewSolomon1 Yes indeed, her version is really stellar--more straightforward in powerful vocals, as opposed to a more slightly subtle, nuanced version of Dionne's. I absolutely love them both.
I am so thank ful for being able to expierince the60's.. music as we know it. had reached a high state of evolution. the variety. The people performers. top of the line class act of the sixties Miss Dionne Warwiclk.
Amen...I'm 62, heard 'em all. No one can hang with Dionne man. Love Gladys, Diana Ross, Streisand of course was amazing. But no ones timbre can match Dionnes, her unique sound. Of coure Bacharach and David supplied some great vehicles for her extraordinary talent. Love Karen Carpenter too! Wish I could go back...oops, I almost forgot beautiful Marilyn McCoo! She had wicked skills.
@Skinny Bones Jones Let me add this. Streisand had the greatest voice in human history technically. Amazing power, range, beauty, control and even soul. I love Streisand. But it's kind of like ice cream, your favorite might be strawberry, mine is pistachio. So what we're really saying I guess when we say someone is the best, is she's my favorite because I like the sound of her voice and her style the most.
I enjoy singing this song. No matter how much I practise & attempt to wrap myself in the lyrics & the tune, I feel indebted to Dionne Warwick, and the gender difference does not matter...we have all (unless in a monastery) known at least one Alfie in our life. That is where I receive my personal inspiration -- direct from Salt Lake City & all the corruption that emanates from that dreadful place. What's it all about, Alfie?
OF ALL THE SINGING MUSICAL RECORDING ARTISTS THAT EVER RECORDED AND SANG THE SONG ALFIE THIS IS BY FAR THE BEST VERSION OF THIS SONG ALFIE IVE EVER HEARD IN MY LIFE SUNG BY DIONNE WARWICK ALL THE OTHER SINGING RECORDING ARTIST'S DON'T COME CLOSE THEY CAN'T TOUCH HER IN THIS SONG.
Perfection by Dionne Warwick singing the beautiful lyrics and music of songwriters: Burt Bacharach / Hal David. The song is so powerful, I still remember vividly seeing the movie Alfie and hearing the song at the Drive-in in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia in 1966.
Gosh, if only we had singers today who were even half as good as Dionne in the Golden Age of American popular music. Maybe if we hold our breaths a breakthrough artist will emerge?
Hi I am Taylor, and I know your post is old, but I just wanted to let you know that you should keep an eye out for me. I will be making an entrance into the music scene this year and I just may change your opinion about artist today. Happy New Year.
+Noe Berengena Thank you. I will try. Check out my RU-vid channel for some samples and I have a lot more on my instagram. instagram.com/its_taylor_harris I need all the support I can get. Thanks again.
Be honest, there are good singers today but they are singing stuff you don't like. They have run out of ideas to appeal to a wider audience. But they can sing.
Unforgettable lush gorgeous performance - no surprises that Dionne Warwick was always first pick for Hal David and Burt Bacharach who both chose this song as their favorite - love love love it!!
I think I was born in the wrong generation. I spend more time listen to pre 1980's music. Beautiful performance and gown to match how amazing this performance is. You came dressed to impress!
My favorite Bacharach David Warwick recording the amazing music the deep and profound lyrics and last but certainly not least Ms Warwick's amazing interpretation and delivery of this exquisite gem of a song
Ms Warwark is setting me in a trance!!!! I'm completely fixated on voice !!!!!! I just wanna say to you Ms.Warwark I love you even in 2017 u give a sista hope..... I hear love pain sorrow & most importantly strength in your voice....... 😙😙😙😙😙😙😙😙😙😙 your timeless ...... and I love you
Warwick owns this song. One of her finest performances. Such class, such emotion in that voice. She makes you a believer. " In whats it all about" sing it Dionne!
70's music was so beautiful and heartfelt. I miss everything about the 70's when my dad would drive the family on road trips to visit family far far away for holidays, my heart would beat soo fast the closer we got to our family far away. Thank you to all these special artists for all those beautiful memories through their music!!! Happy Thanksgiving to my family far far away and my dad in heaven. I miss our wonderful rides in that old pontiac catalina listening to these great oldies-I'll cherish them until we meet again pop. l love you, always a daddy's girl 😘😘💞💖💕💓💓
Since I was a boy Dionne stood out as special to me. This song especially has been indelibly marked on my heart all these years. I'm 71 how and nothing's changed. I thank God for the difference she's made in the music world. Very similar feeling I get as when Karen Carpenter sings. Something very special that goes right to the heart.
Dionne asked Burt, "How many times does Alfie need to be recorded?" Ha! By the time Dionne recorded it, it had been previously recorded many times. Burt told her, "This is the last time." It's Burt's favorite song. Wonder why he didn't give it to Dionne right after he and Hal wrote it from the start????
@@TheLanard The movie was British, so they had Cilla Black and we in America got....Cher, yes, then 20-year-old Cher. She was on the "right" record label.
@@gwenmarie7311 Dionne made it an international hit. The original demo was done by a 22-year-old male singer. Cilla Black did not want the song until Burt Bacharach caved in to her unusual requests and demands. Since it was a British film, the movie personnel wanted a British singer. Strange, but true. Dionne nearly did not record it. Thank goodness she did. She got it in one take.
I truly miss this era of music divas such as Dionne , Aretha and Whitney were professional singers who meant business whenever they performed they were every song writers dream
This era way way before Whitney .. Whitney is young enough to be Dionne/Aretha’s daughter! This was back in the 60s and Whitney would have been 3 years old.
@@arlenecerf8833Whitney was Dionne’s first cousin. Both Aretha and Dionne had hits on the 80s when Whitney became popular, both charted for many decades, sadly Whitney didn’t live long enough to know if she would have more in her career. It’s hard to imagine singers of today having careers spanning five or six decades.
@@mic1240 I know that ..I’m aware that they’re first cousins but definitely not from the same era. Yes , they both had hits when Whitney was up and coming as a young singer in the 80s
She kills this song!! Dionne has to be the best vocalist! Her range, voice control, timing, and enunciation cannot be matched. Dionne, Burt Bacharach and Hal David were God's gift to us!! We will never hear music like this!!
R.I.P. Burt Bacharach🎤🎼🎶🎹🙏🌹💗🕊🎇✨...I don't know just how many people may know all the songs you written, also your achievements ,Burt wrote hundreds of pop songs, many of which were recorded by more than 1,000 different artists. He was a six-time Grammy Award winner and three-time Academy Award winner, and his songs have been described as some of the most important compositions of 20th-century ".. I have so many songs I LOVE,not 1 was not amazing.. but this one "Alfie" was my favorite and "Anyone Who Had A Heart" both sung by Dionne Warwick..greatest song writer, composer, extremely talented, genius and gifted...ty for the beautiful music sir you created on air and in movies 🤍
She always presented with flawless vocals as if the words flowed like a river that's smooth and calm!! It's amazing how her words in a song touches so many hearts 🥰
