One of the premier vocalists of all time. There has never been anyone like her. This is one of the greatest vocal performances of all time by any artist in my opinion. Simply stunning.
There is no one like Dusty. Sadly now she's gone, there's no one to compare. Just my opinion of course, but Dusty was in a category all of her own.I wish she was still around to give us that inimitable storytelling through song. RIP Dusty, but why did you leave so soon?
I had forgotten what a beautiful voice she had and she can really sing this song. There are many versions to this song, each with their own mark. Luther stands out to me and also Sarah Vaughan. RIP Dusty
IMHO the phrasing of the lyrics is the star of the show - even over the excellent lyrics. And with the superb and compelling melodies it all comes together as an amazing collaboration.
Burt has a special feeling for the lyric of Hal David that who cares that he has no great voice - he puts the song over and I love it! Dusty was the best! RIP... We loved you so much and your one of a kind voice. GREAT!
Oh Dusty she just melts my heart away....she's the best! Her emotions as well as her style and her loyalty to her fans -- she was truly a blessing. Sorry to see the 60s end -- the 70s were just so passe!

Whe I first heard all those things about her, I was a bit taken aback, but I so much admire this wonderful singer I totally ignore all those things said about her and accepted her. Thank you Mary O'Brien for all those beautiful songs.
The sound of angels again, OMG! Burt does his best vocal and it's good, but an insignificant warble besides the beauty and majesty of Dusty's voice. It is so unfair and crazy how a woman of this stellar quality escapes regular citation in contemporary popular culture. Simply the best.

I would like to know if this rendition of a "House is Not a Home" is Burt Bacharach's favorite? I don't think Dusty ever did a better cover and she looks adorable performing this great song. It may have been "the moment' that captured her at her best for all time, as both before and after 1970 she had never been nor was she ever so magnificent. Really remarkable and so sorry that she never recorded this song and was taken from us so early. It is heart breaking.

Not a song that I knew much about until I came across this version by Dusty Springfield. Have listened to other artists' performances since but love this version the best. Pity she never recorded it. Burt Bacharach was big Dusty fan and appreciated the way she sang the songs he had written.. She was a class act
Head and shoulders the best rendition of AHINAH, Dusty makes it sound effortless, much more soul and power than Dionne's version and without the big drum/strings break in BB's own recorded version, it still rocks the soul. Viva BB. Viva Dusty!!
One of my favorite all time live Performances.....maybe the best i ever heard. Of course its pretty hard to top Dusty, her beauty and charm is so captivating. not to mention that incredible voice. Really words don't do her justice.
I had a friend who was dating Dusty back then. I showed her this and as soon as it came on she immediately said...she must have hated that hair. She was right. That's exactly what Dusty said afterwards.
Adam13171717 I also loved Dusty's hair at this time. I went to a recording of her TV show at the time and she had the hair and outfit that she wore on the cover of "from Dusty With Love" . I met her after the recording and have to say she was far prettier in person than the Photos have ever revealed, -and more petite- quite delicate in fact. She had really long hair on a recording of The Eamonn Andrews Show where she sang "Morning Please Don't Come" with brother Tom ( which deserved to sell better than it did a lovely gentle ballad). It was straighter than the wavy look in this video and she looked gorgeous( enough for that Old Rogue Terry Thomas to say "Who's that gorgeous creature?" when she went to take her place to sing. The statement that she hated her hair was made on the TV recording of the show hosted by Dawn French and Jennifer Saunders "Full Circle" ( where she had one of her less flattering hair styles). I like Dusty's hair in the video of "In Private" and also her Albert hall show recording.
Can this vocal be topped? That's a loaded question, but it's hard to think of anyone doing it better. One the great things about Dusty is she could sing a wide range of musical styles, from this to rock. It blew my mind when I found out she was a cigarette smoker for most of life!
There are a few singers who have a magical way with Bacharach's melodies in their purest form. I repeat, "in their purest form". Dusty is easily one of them. "Wishin' and Hopin'", "The Look of Love", and this gem are absolute proof of that. However, Dionne Warwick without question tops that list. She was the primary muse for that very special songwriting partnership known as Bacharach-David and was the primary interpreter of their music during their songwriting heyday (1962-1970). Bacharach himself has said as much. However, this is a Dusty Springfield post, and Dusty is absolutely brilliant here.
Sometimes one forget what special person she was. I came across this video quite by accident and remember I saw the performance on TV. Very nice indeed.
A further note on this site. Some of the comments argue for Burt's version. Admittedly Burt has an "Interesting " vocal, but he is hardly a Great singer, can you imagine a whole concert sung in that strained muffle? I think there is a tendency to think he wrote the lyrics as well as the music, so that he was expressing hit own emotions, whereas in fact the lyrics were written by Hal David as were many of the songs associated with Burt Bacharach. Neither the Brook Benton not Dionne Warwick versions were big hits, but I read the Luther Vandross version brought Dionne to tears. Good wishes to all of them, and Bless the Dearly Loved Dusty, who just happens to be my favorite.
I've heard a few versions of this song (including Streisand's and the Luther Vandross one), but I like it by Dusty the best!!! I think she conveys the emotion of this song (or any other) like no one else!!!!!
I love myself some Dusty Springfield. This is great. I don't think its fair to compare Luther or Dionne's version. They all have their distinctive styles (although I think Luther takes the song to a higher level) but I will listen to Dusty any day, any where, any time.
Hearing this song sung by these two I now understand the lyrics and the beauty of this song for the very first time........ I have Luther on cd and still can't top this version

Hi Frans, thanks so much for all your videos, interviews of Dusty. She was such an enigma. She seemed so confident in the 60's in live appearances The way she danced and moved. Looking as though she really enjoyed it, actually made it look easy. Then i read all stories about how she was really scarred , full of self doubt. It kind of baffled me.But i do know its a very tough industry. Plus she was alone, very brave. And being a perfectionist, Bi/gay. A lot to deal with.i understand better.
I'm in love with this song when it was done by Mavis Staples and arranged by Issac Hayes. She was gritty and sung like a woman who knew what she was talking about. Like she had experienced some pain and some life, not just someone hitting some notes.
