Dionne is the real deal!! She studied music in college and came from a very talented family of vocalist. She enunciates every word and has perfect control of her voice!! Amazing and legendary! Burt Bacharach, Hal David and Dionne were heaven sent. We are blessed with their beautiful music!!
Actually she was one of if not the first black pop singer and that does not diminish her in any way infact she helped lead the way to Soul\RnB crossover
luis grant yep, your absolutely correct, the voice of an angel, she could not loose with Burt at the helm writing her, it love her voice since I was a little girl and I'm 54 now🦋
Not surprised - in all her performances - either in a closed studio production like this video, or in front of a full blown live orchestra on a outdoor festival stage, she just walks right on, doesn't miss a beat finding her spot, and invariably nails it on the very first note, no matter how difficult - it's stunning craftsmanship
You sound like me ! I’m 32 and I’m definitely an old soul! I hear this & I resonate with it so much! I’ve always been intrigued by music from the 60/70 any music that wasn’t current lol.
In all fairness, this is lip synched. If you watch the actual video of her singing it live in a concert from around the same period, she is clearly putting in some effort.
Dionne owns this beautiful song for all time., her talent is phenomenal. The great composer Burt Bacharach spotted her wonderful voice and was instrumental in helping her popularity to soar. Love his musical arrangement of this piece.
@@richardharris8867 The 60s did have a plethora of great songwriters - Bacharach and David, King and her husband, McCartney and Lennon, Mancini, over at Motown Holland, Dozier, Holland and so many others. And singers who could sing, not just look "hot" on a screen.
There is a fragility in her voice, something very delicate that matches up so well with the music and lyrics. For me nothing captures the atmosphere of early to mid 60s like Dionne Warwick singing Bacharach/David.
Well put! My mother use to say the same thing...she had ALL of her records as well as Burt Bacharach, A&M artiats as well(Sergio Mendes).….long story short I was 5 at the time and remember how music and art influenced the world around me. It was a BEAUTIFUL time musically!
Lovely... Never Love like this Again & Love at second sight, are seldom heard. I cried when I heard it first again after many years in YT, a year or so ago and saved it. Songs like these helped me survive a painful divorce over a decade ago. That love never left. It just goes person to person. What matters is how you felt with someone. And how they were having been loved by you!
Man...Dionne Warwick was just totally indescribable! There really are no superlatives to do justice to her artistry! And...my goodness...Burt Bacharach's lush, soulful orchestration and production...MY LORD!!🙏❤️👍👏
Daniel Morcilio I was born in 1960 and my mom and dad loved Dione. All m6 aunt and uncle loved her. She was a classy singer with a beautiful voice. Try listening to Theme from the valley of the dolls without crying? Her songs were on r and b and pop charts , she was a true pioneer. And if you watch her you see Whitney Houston in her?
As a toddler I was with my mom shopping when this played through an old hi fi stereo record player console and I stopped to listen and starting crying, I'm 63 and it still brings the little boy out of me
Yes me and I get them whenever I listen to this record this record is a masterpiece even from the beginning when Dionne starts with anyone whoever loved it catches me off guard everytime it's like seeing a face suddenly but slowly at the same time appear out of complete darkness this is the Bacharach David Warwick trio at their best
I believe that Dionne started out singing Gospel music. To this day I have never heard a vocalist with a more beautiful tone to their voice. Her songs are sheer poetry and mezmerizes her audience as she sings her narratives. IMHO, there has never been a better musical team than Dionne, Burt Bacharach and Hal David. Their songs have remained timeless for six decades. 😅
My big sister was listening to her in the late 60s. I was much younger, but noticed something special in her voice and the songs written for her. She sang songs that many singers today could not pull off due to the harmonic content and floating/changing time signatures. Absolutely brilliant. 🙏🏾👏🏾❤️
Here we see Dionne laying the ground work for that poise and grace of performing that Whitney Houston would later adopt as well. The walk, the gestures, the coolness of effortless glamour!
Joseph Rollo Having ties to Dionne and Aretha were well-known facts from the first moment she stepped on stage. Clive Davis made sure of it. She sure as hell didn't inherit her long, lean physique or performing style from Cissy. That's for sure lol Seems like the older Whitney got the more she was starting to look like Dionne.
Dionne Warwick is celebrating her 81 birthday today, December 12, 2021 She was born in Orange, New Jersey on December 12, 1940. She is an American singer, television host, and former Goodwill Ambassador for the UN's Food and Agriculture Organization. Warwick ranks among the 40 biggest US hit makers between 1955 and 1999, based on her chart history on Billboard's Hot 100 pop singles chart. She is one of the most-charted female vocalists of all time, with 56 of her singles making the Hot 100 between 1962 and 1998 (12 of them Top Ten), and 80 singles in total - either solo or collaboratively - making the Hot 100, R&B and/or adult contemporary charts
The story of the 1960's would be empty without that voice and such a gracious lady. We suffered strife in the era but music such as this balanced an unbalanced world.
THE HAUNTING MELODY , THAT IMMORTAL SAX SOLO , THE HEARTFELT LYRICS , AND THE DELICATE EMOTIONAL VOCALS , BACHARACH , DAVID , WARWICK,THE GREATEST TRIO IN THE HISTORY OF POPULAR MUSIC .
I had the good fortune of meeting Dionne in O'Hare airport many many years ago when she was my favorite singer. She was very kind and with no airs at all. I still love to listen to with even greater appreciation than before
Quite possibly the best effort by Burt, Hal, and Dionne. This haunting melody drives straight to the heart. It's impossible to listen to this only once
The Queen, absolutely the best. The emotion in her voice tore into your heart. I'm 63, listening since the early 60's, there have been many greats but no one can compare to Dionne. You think Burt might have known something? Her songs still pull me in after all these years.
Dionne was one of the greatest singers to come out of the 60s.She helped mold soul music to pop music and yet pave the way for many females of her time.Dusty Springfield did several of her songs.Different styles but both great. What a time in music to see such amazing talent.A legend to last forever.God bless her.
But tell the entire truth tho. Great Britain was EXTREMELY racist at the time and didn't allow black performances on radio play or at large venues so when Burt wrote songs for Dionne he also asked Dusty and Cilia to do them too because they would get played places Dionne wouldn't
RIP Burt Bacharach. We will miss you as a person. We’ll remember you listening to all your worldfamous compositions. thank you Burt. thank you Sir ! RIP.
You simply do not hear genius like this, both music and vocals are top notch here! The music actually takes you on a journey, and touches one's soul on so many levels.
This amazing song performed by this amazing woman was heard across America in the AM radio pop music days of the 1960s. A hauntingly beautiful expression of love by the amazing Dionne Warwick. Composer Burt Bacharach and lyricist colleague Hal David rounded out this phenomenal trio of music artisans. Powerful stuff. God is great.
When you have heard the best, the rest can only be a complement or a weak imitation .Dionne Was the standard that all the rest of the singers mentioned in the preceding post tried to duplicate.Dionne voice made the song writers rich as her superior interpretive and tender embrace of the lyrics were so powerful and compelling with out equal, a Goddess in Human Form.
breaks my heart to think that young people may not have the opportunity to experience artists like these writers, arrangers, musicians and exceptional vocal artists in their lifetime......I remain hopeful......
Over here in the UK, we had an evening of her work on one of our major channels on Friday last. I am an unavowed metal-head but was blown away with the quality of her voice. Genius. xx
She has cheekbones for days and the raw material that became beautiful, once she met professional makeup and performance support people. I don't like looking at photos of myself at that age, either -- not many people do. What a talent!
She I'd a once in a lifetime vocal true talent. She sound the same in concert or in the studio. You don't see today's talent that even begin to match her voice. She is and will always a legend.
Oh my Lord! She is still one the greatest vocalists ever. Her Bacharach/David song are among the greatest in pop history. Walk On By easily fits into the top ten singles of all time-it’s that good.
I’ve loved Dionne since the sixties, a truly fabulous vocalist throughout her long career. I’m seeing her perform live for the first time next week when she’s doing her last tour of Europe; I’m looking forward so much to hearing her sing, it’s always been my dream…. dreams do come true!!!
My granddad loved this woman. I remember him speaking so fondly of her. It was in the 80s. I was only a preteen, but I remember how much his heart lite up about Ms Warwick. Oddly enough I had absolutely no clue that she was Whitney’s cousin, who we (the younger generation) was falling in love with as well. We fell so far in love we named Whitney The Voice! Well Oprah did. Lol but we all agreed. Talk about serendipity!!! Both of those women wrote the song track to so many lives..😉
Oh wow! This song brings back so many memories. The golden years of music, the innocent 60’s with so many talented singers but especially Dionne and her unmatched voice and style. ❤️❤️
Saw her many years ago at Lincoln Center in NYC. AMAZING concert. No frills, no embellishments, no costume changes.. nothing but TALENT on stage singing.. it was FANTASTIC!
wI work for a major airlines. Some years back I was fortunate to hselp Ms..Warwick book a flight. We got disconnected.I call her back and completed the booking.I told her how much I loved her.I grew up in the projects as a latch-key kid.We ran home and put on our favorite music until everybody was home.Ms.Warwick was one those that made me feel safe until my mom came home.Thank you.
Oh my God.., I just loved her, my father adored her voice. And we had all her albums, my sister could sing and we would lay on the floor right beside the speaker so we didn't miss not one nuance in her voice. She's amazing, such a unique voice
