"I don't think it's a downside, it's the nature of the fragrance" Listen. There is true respect, wisdom and down-to-earth modesty in these words. I wish a lot more people would think like that, and not just towards fragrances, but opinions and other people in general. You never cease to impress me, good sir
Had both, loved both...after 15 min, I found them so similar, that I sold the 2017 version, not because it's worse, kept the 2012 since is rarer...both are very resinous and calming and elegant. Performance both extraordinary. Really see no point to hunt down the 2012 version on ebay, when I can buy the 2017 version new
Finally I purchased it today and the dry down is to die for.... My goodness it’s ultra suave.. I was reluctant to go for this 2017 version since my favorite was the older version and I can say that it smells somewhat closer to the older version... Thank you AC sir🤝🤝🤝🙏❤️

It's a SOTD for me. I'll say it just for the sake of it - the opening reminds me of Durex Classic condoms to me. And you know that when you open that pack - something good is about to happen LOL. Same with the fragrance. The De Niro comparison was spot on! It's my second signature scent and I prefer to wear it to work in the day time. I spray it about 20 minutes before work because I believe that's when it's starting to develop the best.
Hey AC just tried this today at sephora my god its a powerhouse. And as you described the fragrance opens up after 3 4 hours its a beautiful fragrance and best thing is it lasts a very long time and keep in mind i stay in India where the weather is hot so you can imagine the strength of this and smells absolutely incredible.
That Robert De Niro meme cracked me up good, more so because I just recently rewatched Taxi Driver. Picturing him with Eau Sauvage is not short of a perfect impression either. Eau Sauvage (the vintage, haven't smelled the 2017 version) is not just a fragrance, it's a statement, a phenomenon, and like De Niro, people will notice when someone like him enters the room. Brilliant review my friend, I think I will add a sample to my cart with the Prada Ambers, just so I can be sure to completely knock it out of the park ;) Have a great weekend, God bless!
Both the edt and parfum have a special place in my heart, brings back a tsunami of positive emotions from memories captured whilst wearing both over the years, they will always be in my collection ❤ The edt was actually my SOTD yesterday.
I love this one and consider it above the Blue Dior Sauvage. I agree about the opening; a bit awkward and different but the dry down is amazing and works on my skin for a good 7-8 hours. Because of the opening I’d sample before buying but it’s earned a spot on my shelf!
It's not so amazing on paper alone. It takes real bring out the magic. I'm thankful its not as dark as it was so it can be worn year round. The vetiver in it is amazing.
Thanks for the review / comparison of this classic, AC. While I've found that myrrh just doesn't often agree with my skin / nose, I can see everyone likes the 2012. I'm still working on a decants of both, in part because I gotta like it more than my recently acquired and "darker" smelling Prada Amber Intense. Sauvage edps have Great performance, classic vibe with modern appeal. I should note that I could probably try testing Sauvage with fewer sprays before passing final judgement. Another great review.
@@ACSmellsGood Have to be honest still prefer 2017; however went with 10ml decants - still have way to go. May go with 2017 soon - after Chanel P Monsieur edp and some more Guerlains he he. Remembered another Myrrh scent I liked: J Malone Myrrh & Tonka. Cheers AC!
My dad wore the edt throughout my childhood and I now wear the edp which I similar enough, but different enough for me. I’ve had compliments on this 3 of the last 5 times I’ve worn it. As much as I love dark vetiver fragrances, I get crazy compliments every time I wear citrusy scents (Issey Miyake is insane too, somehow- I’ve had it from strangers in lifts and on trains several times which never happens 🤷🏽)
Amazing review! I have many flagrances and this one has the best dry down! Impressive. I agree that the opening can shock but just wait a couple of minutes...
AC, it’s like you have a crystal ball and can see what your followers are waiting for lol. So I actually got this one(2017) like a month ago, a blind buy without watching your review 1st, I know big mistake hehe. I hadn’t opened it yet and went to test it at a store. When I sprayed it on the paper, I was like oh my, what have I bought? So it’s been sitting in the sealed box and I’ve been contemplating if I should open it or sell it. Along came your review. So what a timely review. Now I can rest assure and have a crack at it knowing it won’t disappoint, especially if it has your seal of approval. Looking forward to wearing it and will fill you in. Thank you again for amazing work.
I have a bottle purchased in 2018 and I still get the myrhh...don’t recall 2012 version much but this seems very similar to the one before. Glad to have a bottle and have been thinking of getting a backup bottle when I have time (and money) to spend from getting other Frags.
You are right Anup, I too get the Myrrh like accord in the heart of the fragrance. I really enjoyed this fragrance and when I do have the money I shall get this inspite of owning the 2012 version .
Great review. I love this newer version of ES Parfum. What you said about hedione is interesting. Are you aware of any other men’s fragrances that use hedione? Thank you
Hi Jean-Luc, I think quite a few eau de parfums use it. In my experience cartier eau de Cartier EDP, Dior Grand Bal, Hermes Voyage de Hermes EDP use it.
dior private line , which one U love most personally , Classy , Bossy , millionaire , show up like BOSS statement not average worker , still with decent alluring polish decent factor tks AC
It's said that the Original 2012 darker myrrh version was reformulated in 2015 before this new 2017 elemi version and it's also said that reformulated 2015 version (with Myrrh) is better and stronger but lighter in color. Is it? Had anyone experienced? Please do share here. Thank you.
Need a professional signature scent alternative from my bleu de chanel parfum and dior homme original, as i like to rotate fragrances to not keep bored of using them, and think, from your great review, that this it's a great option! Thanks 🙏
Hello AC Sir, you made it easy for us to understand the differences :) - having said that what would be better deal to pick 2012 for 136 US$ or 2017 for 80 US$?(never owned any version before. just had sampled Extreme version - so practically speaking a blind buying but have an idea at least what it could be all about)
Dear AC, could you please let me know the alternative perfume to this 2017 Eau Sauvage Parfum. Here in India, it's very tough to get this gem. So kindly let me know the (Clone of) alternatives to 2012 & 2017 Eau Sauvage parfums. I am eagerly awaiting your review for Kilian 'Sacred wood'. Thank you and best regards.
Nice video... Can u Please review "lattafa raghba wood intense"...I think it's a good alternative for Tom Ford or 24 gold by scent story or AAZ 24 hours. I have been searching for a good review but not a single reliable video on you tube for lattafa RWI...Please review it...
would you say this is a vetiver based fragrance? if not would tom ford grey vetiver edp be a better representation of vetiver? i just got eau sauvage parfum 2017 recentlly and it quickly became one of my most favorites, and i noticed it has vetiver in it, and i have never smelled vetiver before. please and thanks
Both are very different and very interesting fragrances tbh but yeah GV would be a very good representation of Vetiver for sure. I have also done a video on top 10 vetiver fragrances. Do have a watch when you have a moment :)
