To be clear: this is not a clone of Portrait Of A Lady. It may share some affinities at the start, but ultimately it is much dryer, mossier and far more interested in the bitter qualities of Akigalawood. Indeed, it works extremely well as a scent in its own right, conveying a very grown up sensibility in the drydown (more than a shade of Rochas Femme) to create its very idiosyncratic image of a chic, super-sophisticated Paris. I look forward to getting to know it better.

I wear this one in colder weather and just love it! It stays for a few days on my blazers. You can smell it in the air as you walk past them hanging on the peg. I find it really lasts and projects very well off my clothes generally. People love the smell on me, and a particularly attractive lady working a local coffee shop was virtually swooning while serving me lol She said I smelt so lovely. I really recommend, if you're a guy, dressing this one up. A nice blazer and white shirt, or fitted sweater (not too thick) is perfect. It's such an elegant and, dare I say, classy fragrance.

I agree, Portrait of a Lady with that incense note makes it spectacular. When I went into the Frederic Malle shop, I smelled everything and couldn’t leave without buying a bottle of POAL. This afternoon, I walked into the Dyptique shop and the manger handed me a bottle of Eau Capitale and I left with a bottle of it. I love it. And I love going into the shops because those great sales people really understand how to keep you coming. My big advice for perfume purchasing is to go into the shop, buy something (yeas, it’s more expensive than buying on the great market, but you’ll leave with so many samples, a fair share of other products they offer, and a good feeling. I love scents that were once considered more masculine and am so happy that attributing mas/fem traits to scents is thought of as ridiculous.

I haven’t because it’s not yet available in my country, but it’s on my sniff list. I am very fond of Diptyque, and although their recent releases were not my cup of tea I am excited about Eau Capitale 🤗

I've just started watching this video. Leaving this comment before I really watch it. I love eau capitale! I find it's on a continuum of rose and Patchouli with POAL and Epic Woman in terms of wearing experience. To my nose, eau capitale is the easy wear one like the cool younger sister, POAL is the boss sister who is sophisticated and sexy in equal measures. While epic woman is a matriarch with such character and depth, but she still has feminine beauty and alure. I love all 3. Thank you so much for this review.

I only tried Diptyque eau Capitale once, and in all my honesty, what I was reminded of was all the negative reviews which I had read on POAL in the past. Specifically, ones that made me think I would never be able to use POAL myself (I’m a guy in my late twenties). That said, I love POAL madly. And Capitale is unfortunately so many things that I don’t want POAL to be. /:

I’m really enjoying my Eau Capitale. It smells very Parisian to me, a Smokey cafe at night, but an older Parisian feel. I think its a unisex perfume.loving it

I am a big fan of leather scents.. my favourite being bel ami and Antaeus but eau capitale was love at first sniff. It’s perfect. Maybe the best rose?

@@Persolaise Well, it’s light. I know that the community considers Portrait of a lady as being the best, but for me it’s unwearable, and so is lyric. Ferrari might be the perfect car, but Lexus is better. ;)

Really starting to get into your channel.. I love your articulation and crispness in elocution. I do wish your amazing ness was shortened just a little. I have times I prefer 24 minute videos, mainly when I’m driving but, would love it if you got it down to 10-15 mins on one fragrance.. I would smash out more of your reviews if they weren’t so long.... But....Fantastic reviews non the less..

No it’s not like POAL it has rose patchouli like POAL and that’s where similarities end ... argh this dries down to greener smell and has pink pepper in it
