Some people asked me a better video of the famous riff of this Dire Straits song, so here it is. I hope it will help you to learn this beautiful song. This is a second upload of the video, for a better video quality.
May I just say that I thought your tutorial was brilliant. I hate Marc because he is so good - this has helped me like him a bit! I am getting there sloooowly. Thank you again.
@acfownz Thank you for your comment. Set your amp on a good clean sound, with a strat on position 4 and that's it. You can add a bit of chorus if you want.
Sweet sounding clean channel. One of my mates plays through this Fender amp. Nice job on the left hand part of this. There are a few cheats if your thumb can't bend like that- in concert there are two players anyway. Nice job.
Thank you very much fir replying and i have a strat and what does position 4 mean and can you please define a clean sound. Sorry for being such a pest but i really want to know how to play this right. Could you possibly do like a 4 second video just showing the numbers on your amp. I have a frontman is that okay. Again very sorry
I have rated 5 star and subscribed because i love this song and i wana learn it but to do that i need to know the number of the gain, drive volume, treble, middle and bass on the amp please and i will be so greatful :D
Good lesson, really liked it, don't understand what some of the others whine about. Seems like they want to be spoon fed with every minute fuckin' detail and they still won't be satisfied somehow.
Thank you for your comment Lewis. I think that the first note on the F chord is a F , the A in the bass being played just before the chord change. To learn this riff, I watched again and again the On The Night video years ago.
Have a listen to the original album recording again closely I'm pretty sure its an A, also it seems to be the case here too ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-YvMUcQi0vQc.html This piece has been doing my head in for a while now and I know what you mean about studying all he filmed footage!
Hard to tell, as there is a lot of chorus effect on the original track, I hear weakly the bass strings of the guitar. The first note is a A on the G string, maybe with a F on the low E string (what I play) or with another A on the A string (what you suggest). What is sure is that Mark frets the low E string on the first fret this is thumb. :-) And we can also notice that in 2015 he changed the position of the second chord,.
