Thanks Nick and Alexia for a great reaction and shout out to Marley.🐶 Nick, There are no mistake only Serendipitous adventures. On every street is my 2nd favorite on that album, so it was meant to be. Glad you both got to react to it. 🎉🥳👏 IMO this whole album is great. The middle groove of the song with the sax and guitar solos and the drums is a favorite. You are correct The music is vey visual and atmospheric. Of course, I remember when the Sultans of Swing came out and everyone was hooked. He has had a fun career to follow and he survived Walter and Donald’s perfectionism, then he went Sailing to Philadelphia with JT. ❤️❤️

Scott, who do you think this song’s about? An old girlfriend? A working girl? A ghost? A bit hard to tell, since he’s being poetic.

Simply one of the most incredible songs ever put to tape. Mark Knopfler is an absolute virtuoso. Living legend. He and the band always create vivid images. He takes you away to places like no other. Another great reaction. Playing live this he/ they always blow my mind too. Oh and seriously, I'll say it again, Communique is an amazing album lol.

What a song… first time I heard this this song in a bigger system I was blown away by how some of the bass line was going super low, which I had not heard from car or smaller Speakers. Drums bass, symbols wow, very underrated.

On Every Street always has a soft spot for me because that's the first tour I got to see Mark live. Mark has a lot of songs like this, especially once you get into his solo albums. Amazing songs that get a bit lost in his discography because they aren't as flashy as some of the others, but when you really sit and listen, you realize how good they actually are.

I ashamed to say that despite being a huge DS fan I hadn't heard this in ages. But as soon as it started, the beat reminded me of 'Back On the Dance Floor' from Mark's solo album, 'Down the Road Wherever (2018). Give that one a listen!

This song is my reference. Bought this album in 91 when i was 12 years old as my first compact disc. The studio craftmanship and musicians skills that went into this song are just so overwhelming it still blows me away even after hearing planet of new orleans for the 1000th time

"Private investigations" is specifically about that detective/mystery feeling from Dire Straights. I also like his Golden Heart solo album.

This album actualy had Jeff Porcaro on drums. You schould definitely also listen to "Fade to black" from this album, "The man's too strong", "One world" and "Ride across the river" from the Brothers in arms album, "Espresso love" from the Making Movies album and "It Never rains" and the title track from "Love over gold".

Thank you for this! My all-time favorite Dire Straits song, the setup and eventual payoff is just amazing in this. The drums build up so effectively during the entire song and all the instruments just support each other perfectly! You should try Private Investigations, if you haven't heard that yet ;)

Hi JK. A totally enigmatic and metaphorical description maybe some one of a higher social status, or the opposite a working girl, or a high class midnight lady, or maybe an homage to all the women of the city or even the city as an incarnate female. The open reading along with the brilliant playing is pretty close to perfection.

This song has some good live performances, where he stretches out a bit in his soloing. Actually, Knopfler did nice playing with Jeff Healey on the song I Think I Love You Too Much. Knopfler wrote it but it is from a Jeff Healey album.

Beautiful! Being of a certain vintage, I discovered Dire Straits when the first album dropped. 'Wild West End' was my favourite from that album. Communique and Making Movies were fine but didn't quite match the first, in my mind, but Love Over Gold blew me away. My #1 Dire Straits album. It's quite incredible how a guitarist from the North East of England can connect and collaborate with so many top American musicians and country stars. As I've said before, I love his recordings with Emmylou Harris. Watch on RU-vid and enjoy!

On Every Street is a strong, smart, brilliant album. The 92 Tour I saw to promote this LP was equal to the studio offerings and then some. Checkout, On The Night. The Dire Straits DVD from Nimes, France which is THIS Tour. Mark and the group at the height of their powers.

Hi guys loving your channel as always especially when there's MK on your channel. This song and Telegraph Road are probably my 2 fave songs along with Once Upon A Time In The West. These 2 songs from Alchemy Live DS 1983 are iconic. Sultans Of Swing from DS Sydney Live Final Concert 1986 which can easily be found on youtube is just jawdropping. Songs from OES that are awesome are You And Your Friend, Calling Elvis, Heavy Fuel to name a few. Cheers from Australia 😊🎸🎸

Their last album is quite so different. :) Still interesting and worth a listen. His songs often take you right there, this one included. :) When I play my Dire Straights collection I just go through them all from first to last. I don't have an ability to pick a favorite as there are way too many and then you have Mark's solo work too.

Best song from this album, followed closely by " You And Your Friend " and " On Every Street ". This album could almost be called an MK solo album, but it has Dire Straits on it because it was necessary to fulfill a record company contract. That being said, this is a superb, well-done album, with a variety of genres: rock, blues, folk, country, and here, a jazz-rock(almost prog) masterpiece. Numerous live versions are on RU-vid that have extended outros. MK at his best, stellar musicians backing him, a superior composition, great story telling. DS in a nutshell I always thought Planet Of New Orleans as the unofficial goodbye song of Dire Straits, it has all the elements of DS, but, Planet Of New Orleans could have easily fit on one of MK's solo albums

Good point of view, thank you. I never saw this album as a career bridge; it left me with an ambivalent feeling then and now. However, I give MK great respect for how he has "aged" musically with dignity, ambition and passion. Have fun with all kinds of good music.
