The "On Every Street" album is criminally underrated. Even though it has so many amazing songs on it. By the way, the drummer on most of the album was the legendary Jeff Porcaro.

Nobody takes advantage of the interstices between refrains as much as Knopfler. He builds so much anticipation and drama by not being fearful in his song writing by SILENCE. It's a wonderful ally if used correctly. It doesn't hurt that he is a master at lyrical hooks.

I felt like a kid in a candy store watching your video to my fave artist of all time. Thank you, that was awesome. MK has written over 300 songs now, there's so much to discover. My fave solo songs are Punish The Monkey, You Don't Know You're Born, Kingdom Of Gold, So Far From The Clyde and Just A Boy Away From Home, just to name a few. Love your channel and even more when you react to MK. Cheers, all the best from Australia. 😊🎸🎸🎸

A great reaction, thanks Nick. Now you're a Knopfler fan, can I point you towards a collaboration album Mark made with legendary musician Chet Atkins in 1990. The album's called 'Neck and Neck' and you really should check out the third track 'There'll Be Some Changes Made', it has both Chet and Mark ad-libbing to one another as they take turns playing their guitars and singing the song. It's a true delight.

I remember seeing the Knotting Hillbillies live on SNL when this originally aired. I was already a Dire Straits and Mark knopfler fan, but I didn't know who this musical guest was and I was floored when i recognized Mark up there. I also remember mark being there a couple years earlier playing with Randy Newman on SNL.

Phrasing and emphasis is everything to 'meaning', without it you just end up with a passage of words/notes. He is undoubtedly one of the true masters. This flows through into his lyrics and singing; they complete the package of unmistakable brilliance. Thanks Nick and Scott, this was very nice :)

Both Mark's careers have a different sound, Dire Straits was rock, rock/ pop, and his solo career is more folk, folk rock ,but both share some common things, and they are brilliant musicianship, song write and story telling with Mark's emotional singing style. I have loved his music all my life ( in my 60s ), and long may he continue to make us all so happy.

As brilliant as Mark is on the guitar, I think he's even more brilliant as an arranger. So tasteful and elegant, and always just what is needed for the song, and no more. PS Mark's outstanding collection of guitars is being auctioned off by Christie's auction house in January. There's a video on the Christie's RU-vid page where Mark explains the history of some of the guitars in the sale. A portion of the proceeds is going to charity.

What a great Thanksgiving treat to get the great Mark Knopfler and a NicknLex reaction. I had a really hard time picking out the songs for this one. There could be numerous variations to this marathon and it would still be incomplete. I debated including Mark’s work with the great Chet Atkins and Emmylou Harris as well but went with the James Taylor collaboration of Sailing to Philadelphia. Alas you can’t do it all. There will need to be a Mark The Mighty 2nd reaction as well. Thanks Nick fade to black was a perfect outro. Im so happy to get to watch you hear more Mark Knopfler. I’m sure there will be many great suggestions for more songs from the Mighty Mark. I hope everyone has a great Thanksgiving.

This was fantastic Scott. Such a great arranger and singer/songwriter. Love him änd Bruce Cockburn in this style. Favorite Knopfler albums are still the self titled one and Love Over Gold. Love Telegraph Road on Love Over Gold. Was not familiar with last 2 cuts but they were awsome. Great marathon from start to finish. Very nostolgic for the 90's and the 80's, especially compared to now.

If he's going to react to that one, it's absolutely got to be the live "on the night" version, otherwise he's cheating himself out of something magical. As superb as the original recording is, that live version is simply otherworldly. That Pensa is just screaming. Dire Straits are always best listened to live.

Having not heard this track before, I recognised the other singer as James Taylor straight off. I know Knopfler has worked with JT live, so that convinced me further... Also worth checking out Knopfler's duet album with Emmylou Harris, 'All The Roadrunning' (2006). Not much lead guitar work on that one, but great vocal harmonies and songwriting.

Hey Nick finally got a chance to listen and watch away from the holiday distractions. I am delighted you enjoyed it 🤔 I knew you would it was an easy bet. All your insights and observations are appreciated, glad you picked up his Scottish sound on Beryl. I think you would call it Jigs and Reels. His influences are wide and his delivery is exceptional and always tasteful. I loved seeing your face light up when you recognized James Taylor’s distinct vocals. Check out the Notting Hillbillies when you can. As always thanks for the great Reaction. .

Nick, if you haven't already, check out John Anderson (country singer) covering Mark's 1991 song "When It Comes To You"... with Mark playing guitar. It's so much better than the Dire Straights version. John's singing and Mark's guitar playing is such a perfectly matched duo. Edit: Here is a video with a little history of the duo along with the song... ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-N-Lz-zh524Q.htmlsi=sMOImbFLWlsZ0HZj
