Still brilliant, such a full sound from the best finger plucker of all time. It doesn't matter where you are when you hear a riff Mark Knopler has one of the most remarkable sounds, no one else plays like he does.
I agree! Neither will we ever see a guitarist with the quality of Mark again. The amount of detail he puts in his playing is just insane and hard to beat if not imposdible. Mark is so unique, there never will be another.
Closer to 60 than 50 , still obsessed , swinging and swaying at Dire Straits . The piano work IS REMARKABLE .So very well incorporated in the whole .xx
I'm a 17 year old guy that is absolutely obsessed with Dire Straits. Hope to go to Mark Knopfler his concerts sometime, when the pandemic is finally over. Till then, we keep on listening to his good music ;)
62 here. Obsessed. Hooked first time I heard them. I've gone through countless cassettes and cds just keeping Dire Straits in rotation in the vehicles since 1983.
Hey Laurens...If you haven't already dig deep into Brothers in Arms, both the lyrics and Knopfler making his Les Paul weep, cry, shout out in pain and joy. Hes a spiritual genius.
If you told me couple of years ago that i would have bought some guitar and played on it I would burst out laughing because on that moment guitarsnever interested me but when i meet Mark as guitar player and song writer and how great guitarist he is i changed my thinking about what can you do for yourself to have a fun. I want to be like him and have even 10% of his skills and bought my first guitar only for it. I will Never be like Master of guitar Mark but i learn some stuff of his fingerstyle and this is great for me and give me a lot of fun.
O melhor show, a melhor música de todos os tempos de Dire Straits! Perfeito, amo esse show. Uma.pena.nao ser lançado oficialmente!!! plena burrice não lançar!
Telegraph Road ... is a warning to us all: be careful what you dream, first as individuals and then collectively as communities. Progress initially begun at a human scale and hopeful, evolves with it's own logic, growing and growing into the all consuming frightful power of a runaway and accelerating mile long freight train. To me the lyrics express this dual nature of bygone hopefulness which over time later generations experience as a dehumanizing treadmill and beast to feed, eventually finding themselves bent collectively, to the labors of Sisyphus. The music marks this same progression from early simple notes, melodically positive with many complimentary individual even nostalgic themes, Then over time after the lyrics end darkly, the music develops into an unforeseen and terrifying force of nature, a driven, frantic, masterful rush headlong toward an unseen calamity, orchestrated with all the frightening power of knife edge musicianship on full display by all members of the band. Telegraph Road and progress has lead us all where exactly, I think Mr. Knopfler has the sophistication to ask. The best art asks powerful questions, however seldom defines answers, leaving that for us the audience to work thru.
DS, The only songs i can hear, and heard!, million times and still get into a "transe" after all these years. God blessed that man's fingers like no human in history, it's almost supernatural. The GOAT
He’s so underrated, I can appreciate Hendrix, Clapton and so many other guitarist but he strums with his fingers, such a nice clean sound, unique..magical, especially live. Music like this is dying, hopefully they’ll be remembered..
Never seen him in person but he stole my heart the very first time. He is my daily must have. Would give anything to know him. Honestly feel like I do.
I just turned 60 bin with this bloke sinse 1978 from day dot life would be pretty lonely without this9 music marvel to all M.K & D.S fans God bless you please all stay safe happy and healthy cheers from Australia
MK’s FINEST performance of Telegraph Road. Everything clicked. You could see the band members got cranked up as Mark flawlessly hit the accelerator. 8:45 fasten your seat belt!
Give Cordoba 2010 a listen, another one where everything clicked. Another masterclass with a different tempo and feel but a great evolution of this song
This is how a storm is built up , reaches its climax and then leaves us in calmness... Devastation is Dire straits and want it to occur over and over !
Back in the summer of 1992 I was doing military service in Finland, and had a ticket to Helsinki Olympic Stadium concert during this tour. One of the most bitter moments of my life was when I was denied leave, and had to stay at the army base on the night Dire Straits played in Finland. I've had this song as a bootleg for ages, and it still reminds me that I should have gone AWOL back then... You live and learn. Anyways, thanks for sharing this - what a masterpiece
I was live at this concert in 92 in Basle. I din‘t miss a show when Dire Straits or Mark Knopfler where in Switzerland. This Version is the best I ever heard. Simply not to top from no otherd. 🎸🎸🎵🎵❤️❤️
Another incredible performance that deserved to be included in the official live. Also in that version it's possible admire the MK's magnificent ability to improvise and the powerful expressiveness of the Dire Straits orchestra.
Everyone knows Mark is amazing, both as a guitarist and a songwriter. But people only seem to talk about him and his solos on this, i never see anyone talking about Alan. Alan's piano/keyboards playing is a big part of the DS sound, and a very big part of this song, especially Alchemy or this version. Nobody can play these DS songs piano parts like Alan, his chords, phrasing and timing and overall feel are amazing, and a big personal piano/keys influence. Jim Cox and Matt Rollings are great keyboard players, but none of them can give this feel to TR.
There's another video on YT, this song from the Alchemy tour, that does a fantastic job of showing off the rest of the band. Especially Terry Williams (I think that's right) on the drums. John Illsley seems to be enjoying himself so much. I'm no musician myself but watching it you can't help but just know/feel these are guys at the top of their game. I watch the video a couple of times a month, I reckon.
Fantastic work by the cameraman team, focusing on close-ups of the most precious hands of an extraordinary Man that humankind has ever witnessed regarding guitar playing! Those hands have only a pair similar, the hands of Michaelangelo Buonarotti, the Italian sculptor of 550 years ago!
There is just something about Basel live I can't put my finger on. Wait....yes I can. The best performance I have ever seen coming out of my shit monitor and earphones. If I had to send aliens one thing to show them what humans are I would send this video. White people, despite their mistakes, are the best of humankind.
Never seen Dire Straits in concert, probably never will now, my friend at School in 81 said have a listen, I did, Sultans of Swing, liked and then listened through the years, Love Over Gold (best album), Alchemy, Brothers in Arms, fantastic singer and guitarist, should be in the hall of fame ❤
Seen mark twice it’s an amazing experience a genius guitar slinger mindblowing performance I’ll never forget once with dire straits the other time with an Irish line up dedicated unique up a notch to his level like no other 2022 still amazing🎸🎸🎸🎸
Absolutely the best version ever and never. I got a bootleg in 1996 and only right now i have found (thanks to the amazing man who uploaded it) the video version. I have listened to the audio track uncountable times. Thanks again for having uploaded it.
Well same here... Was looking for a while for this particular version.. I got that bootleg on tape, found it on some market on a holiday in Spain 93' something, but I couldn't remember the name they gave it.. Looking everywhere on RU-vid, thought it was Spain.. then suddenly scrolling through Google saw the name Basel... yeah it made a click.. it was in Basel.. And yep here it is. Found it just now! Great!!
This concert also has 'private investigations' on it and afterwards he walks up to him and taps him on the shoulder acknowledging his part in the song. Its a beautiful little interaction of admiration.
@@zericthegreatyoure right about the release but its a collection of gigs made into one, i would love to see the whole Basel concert in its intirety. Had it on tape but it unwatchable now.
Best version ever of Telegraph Road, glad is back in RU-vid... actually, Basel 92 is IMHO the best concert ever of Dire Straits, Mark and his band mates were on absolute fire that night (Phil Palmer did an amazing job as 2nd guitar and provided some amazing chops in the Money for Nothing solo and fantastic pinch harmonic at the start of Solid Rock, just to name a couple). Before Basel 92, my favourite one was Mandela's 70th birthday concert featuring Eric Clapton as rhythm guitar in 1988 (when the Pensa Suhr debuted), but when witnessed this one on live TV, it literally left me in awe until today. I will never understand why Sultans of Swing and Telegraph Road were sidelined from the On the Night album, it's beyond my comprehension (I can live with Alchemy's version of Tunnel of Love, indeed mind-blowing, but these other two from Basel 92 are irreplaceable).
Truth that there is no best ever guitarist. I think he is considered one of the best and known for his technical ability and one of the hardest working guitarist . Hard to beat slow hand though.
