In this video I make a set of wood stools for my kitchen. If you follow me you know I make stools often, and I am in search of the perfect stool design!!! These wood stools with a steel foot rest and a leather top, was an exercise in using the new 12’ long papermakers lathe I recently purchased. I decided to make the foot rest in steel because it seems like first to break in any other stool design. I had to weld in place because it would have been impossible to assemble as one part.
I had to use the machine shop to fabricate a steel die to match the tapper on the leg where the foot rest collar will live.
And thank you to Weaver for sponsoring this video. The leather top was the inspiration for this design and this video.

Old school plus new school. Ancient tools given new life, and new tools given old wisdom and creativity to really shine! You, Jimmy are an inspiration! I love the mix of skills, tools, and materials you use, and you never do the same thing twice! Always pushing your limits, always testing the limits and capabilities of your tools. You're the Alton Brown of making! Creative, scientific and artistic in equal quantities and mixing new and old techniques together to make something new and amazing! I'm gonna go make something!

A lot of times I watch your videos because it’s neat to see what you come up with, but I wouldn’t want the project myself. I appreciate the craftsmanship, but the aesthetic is not one that calls to me. This one is absolutely gorgeous! I’d love to replace my beat up stools with this. Nice job, Jimmy!

You weren't kidding on the podcasts, that lathe is a beast. Normally don't comment but have to say that the shape on the seats with the chamfer from the bottom really adds a cool look. Little different from the normal flat all the way to the edge. Thanks for all your content!
