Well his Ring is ALWAYS better than multiple Rings but with a help of atleast 1-3 Superstars in one team. Mavs was not even the Favorites to win back then, they were being disrespected, they were NOT THE FOCUS OF MEDIA in short Mavs 2011 was a blacksheep that one a championship lol
GreyJag 18 it's the Most meaningful ring since then '12: Heat Beat Baby thunders '13: Heat had superior talent saved by allen '14: 2nd Most meaningful ring ( d-Wade lost a step by then) '15: Warriors Beat banged-up cavs '16: cavs Beat Warriors After they needed draymond to get suspended for sth that was not as bad as previous actions from him vs OKC No need to mention the Last 2 years
@@jbrojb3328 Miami was leading the series 2-1 and in game 4 had a 76-69 lead with 8 minutes left in the 4th. Dallas crowd was completely out of it and Miami was staring at a 3-1 lead. It's a very fine line between winning and losing.
@@mrbroho98_43 He was a Finals MVP , 14 times all star , lifting mavs from a stacked western conference with 26.8 ppg(playoffs) from being 7th seed to winning the whole season beating a superteam Miami. AND YOU'RE TELLING ME HE'S NOT A SUPERSTAR?
What a classy move by the Spurs team treating a long-time rival like this at his last game. Dirk is so special for an opponent to them. I'm only a casual basketball fan, but I got to shed tears watching the tribute clip, damn. What an amazing career Dirk had.
I'm a life-long Spurs fan, and I love this man. I have so much respect for Dirk. Having lived through and watched all of the Spurs-Mavs clashes where he started opposite Tim Duncan, you cannot earn a tribute video more than he did. I saw a few of those intense jousts in person, including game 7 in 2006. What a player. What a career.
As a Mavs fan who started watching basketball in the early 2000s, I feel the same about Tim Duncan. One of the greatest to play the game and always a class act. Hated his guts sometimes but you gotta respect the legends.
As a Mavs fan, The Spurs were always a few players better than our teams but that rivalry was always about respect. Hate to see your Big 3 gone and our Big German gone. Those were some battles. Class.
Game 7, 2006 Spurs Mavs. That game had it all. Dirk tied it and took it to OT. Spurs fans know about this legend too much too often. Well done by Spurs.
I was at that game. To go up with Manus 3 and then go into overtime after Dirks and1 ,I never seen a crowd go from top of the mountain to bottom of the valley. Maybe Fisher. 4 bs but Dirk was a beast in his prime.
All Manu had to do is not foul, he had just made the three to put us up three, Dirk got the and one, in OT the Mavs get us. Little things like that kept us from multiple threepeats, just like the .4 in 04 when Derek Fisher got a little help from the clock operator.
Funny coz its true. Dirks prime who he was with? Josh howard, aging Jkidd? Terry was his sole backup (a 6th man jeez) That 2011 run is amazing, a cinderella run indeed. Practically its a novel. 1st rd vs Portland: Mavs vs playoff failure ghosts 2nd rd Lakers: VS back2back champions 3rd rd OKC: Young and gunning 3 future MVPs Finals Heat: SUPERTEAM
its even end of prime dirk,he entered his prime 2006,with that cast vs the okc big three, kobe and gasol and the miami big 3...thats why he gets that tour like kobe and not like pierce
@@kaiser741 Honestly that squad wasn't that bad they had depth with Stojakovic, Shawn Marion, Tyson Chandler etc. No one expected them to win but they had the potential. Aging Jason Kidd was still pretty decent up to that point
It was a very classy move. To put together not just a video of Dirk's career, but of mostly him beating up the Spurs. Other than my own team and maybe the modern-day Nuggets, there's only ever been one org I truly respected, the Spurs.
When you go ON the road and the home team gives you that kind of recognition, it just proves how much you touched THEM. Well done Spurs organization and Dirk Nowitzki .
@@gfropr nope. Dirk was really good in his prime, but Larry Bird was nasty man. Two totally different players. That is unless you were referring to them both being white lol, and if so, carry on.
The Atlanta Braves' Chipper Jones had a similar send off with other teams honoring/paying tribute to him as well. I don't remember it being quite on this level, though.
If he didn't play his final game in Dallas, there's no better place to play it other than San Antonio. Dirk and Duncan had some of the best head to heads ever. Two of the most humble, real stars in the history of the game.
Absolutely loved this moment. I am a lifelong Spurs fan and seeing Dirk getting emotional after seeing a tribute made by one of his biggest rivals was just beautiful. I hope he is enjoying his retirement.
I think most teams would have if they known for sure he was retiring. The Clippers stopped the game to applaud. Spurs did a great job but they aren't the only.
The Spurs organization is special. This presentation is one of the noblest events in the history of sports. And Nowitzki has always been humble and a great character.
To the Spurs organization: Thank you so much for paying tribute to Dirk in your home town. A rare class act. I applaud you for recognizing Dirk’s greatness.
72CornerSpeed this was one of the best games I had ever gone to, mind you I went to kawhi’s return this season too, and Duncan hitting a three on the suns in the playoffs. But seeing dirk, and the vibes one last time topped it all off
I don't mind people staying loyal to their team, but Dirk declined a 4 year max from the Lakers in 2014, and took a huge pay cut to stay with the Mavs. The Mavs rewarded his sacrifice by signing Chandler Parsons to a max. Dirk should have done his 4 years in LA with Kobe and then come back for this season with the Mavs.
mavs championship playoffs run was the best, I'm Spurs fan for life but that was fucking well deserved championship, and great team btw, and many great players
@@aakashsundar315 thats right. Not too many people even know abiut that surprisingly. I mentiined that to my friends and they be like whaaaaaat. Then i said that on facebook on sportcenter post and got laughed at for it bc nobody believed me lol
This guy has everyone's respect. In the age when you have people chasing the most money or the most stacked team to get the rings and then you have this guy. What a legend. Got to respect this man.
@@saucegotti8538 I mean Lebron hit the Game icing shot over Kawhi 🤫 LeBron is one of the clutchest player of all time... More Buzzer Beater than MJ and Kobe combined
@@philohlrogge4207 can you please stop that damn information or else i gonne wrick your country... you think we didn't know that fucking info?? of course we all know but we still not recognized that DAMN THING CALLED BRON a GREATEST...toxic for sure
This man was offered millions of dollars on his contract but asked for less so the Mavericks could get better players. The list goes on and on of his accomplishments, what a legend
If you arent from Dallas you probably dont know but Dirk was satisfied with how much money he had in the first 6 years. Plus MC put him in investments all around the world, he will be better off, trust me lol
As a Spurs fan since the late 90's when I started watching basketball, Dirk was always that guy that put a lot of fear in Spurs fans. He was so good and an absolute nightmare to guard for everyone, including those great Spurs defensive teams.
As a lifelong spurs fan, I can say this about Dirk: Even though I would root against you & your team when you crossed paths with the spurs, there wasn’t a single moment I would disrespect you. You’ve always been that player that you always love until you cross paths with my team. I can remember so many games, regular season &/or playoff, that I would go to knowing that it was going to be one hell of a game. Even if you beat my spurs in the playoffs, I’d always root for you to keep on moving to hopefully win it all. I know I’m a few years late but congrats on a legendary career! I wish you & your family the best& I can’t wait to hear when you’ll be inducted in the Naismith Hall of Fame!
Wow! Watching Dirk highlights again after the Mavs retired his # last night, and I’m bawling my eyes out right along with him (as a huge longtime fan of Dirk’s and a lifelong Chicago Bulls’ fan as a Windy City native). Met Dirk in an elevator at the Ritz Carlton in Chicago back in 2007 after meeting with a client. Mavs were in town for a Bulls game. Staying at Ritz. Just me and Dirk. Chance. Timing. One of my all time fave guys on a different team. What a great guy. Chatted for several minutes. So long that when we left the hotel, dozens of fans outside rushed Dirk AND ME (all 5’8” of me in my suit and tie) asking both of us for autographs assuming I must be with the team. LOL Of course I didn’t let them down. I signed their stuff. Silly. But fun. I went back to Dirk and pulled out my Biz card and asked him for his autograph. He laughed his big German laugh and said apparently he should be asking for mine! Hilarious! He signed my card and marked it with a giant 41. Ended up hating that job and quitting soon after, but that Biz card is displayed quite prominently in my Chicago area home’s man cave right along with all of my legendary Chicago Bulls’ Championship stuff. Always loved Dirk. Still do. Class to the max!! Miss you, man. ❤️ You were a GD beast! Thanks for being kind and real.
As a spurs fan we know first hand how tough winning those battles against Mavs were because of Dirk . Shout out to Dirk and Ginobili my favorite two Euro players who took dominated in the NBA.
OKC fan myself, being a 90's kid, I grew up watching the league and loved watching Dirk. One of the greatest playoff runs we've ever seen. Not even a Dallas fan, but this one made me shed a tear. Wish I could've seen him play in person at least once. All time great. That's a great move, SA. Y'all didn't have to do that. That's classy.
@@jw9410 When Kobe, Duncan, and Garnett retired in 2016, they were the last players to ever face Bulls Jordan. As of now, I believe Vince Carter, Jamal Crawford, Pau Gasol, Tyson Chandler, and Tony Parker are the only players left who got to face Wizards Jordan.
@@supervegito8513 He's not a ring chaser. He's made that evident for quite some time now. He enjoys his role as a mentor and honestly, that makes him infinitely more admirable.
Dirk was something else... I remember crying my eyes off when he won the NBA title. He paved the way for the Europeans in NBA, whant a man, what a legend.
The Duncan/Dirk/Kobe era in the West was incredible! The rivalries were based solely on excellent play. I don’t think I’ll ever enjoy basketball as much as I did back then.
God I miss you:( I miss the memories growing up:( I MISS YOU 41. The world hasn’t been the same since you walked away… Enjoy your time now. Enjoy the pride you can walk with. You did it with nothing, no extra superstar, just grinded. You truly are the greatest player in NBA history❤️
Real rivalry. 2001 Spurs won in semis in 5 games. 2003. Spurs won in 6 in the wcf 2006. Mavs won in 7 Epic series 2009 Mavs won 2010 Spurs won 2014 Spurs won Duncan and Dirk battled through the 00's as a Spurs fan we respect Dirk
That was epic shit, I miss those days of basketball so much, 1999-2012. But jump ahead to today and the nba does nothing for me, I could care less to even watch.
If only every professional athlete could conduct themselves on and off the court or field of play like Dirk did, sports would be 100x better. Even as a lifelong diehard Lakers fan,It was real pleasure being able to watch this man's entire career.
John Patrick Callejo I respect him as an international player. Get recognized by this country, set his root to this land, live, work and retire in the same city, not many foreigners are as lucky as him
tim... SO true. That was really because of Pat Riley deciding to but it is also an overlooked point in the James vs. Jordan argument. How many players have EVER had their number retired by a team for whom they never played? Only Jordan. The Heat were getting good then too, they won the Championship some time afterward too so it wasn't a bottom feeder organization. *It was far from 100% Pat Riley making the decision, I know.
What a great player he was. I am a diehard Spurs fan, and it was great to see him compete with my hometown team season after season. He has crushed my soul at times with his SUPER clutch playing abilities. One of the best ever.
That's why I am a Spurs fan. They rarely do something bad (I don't say they haven't) and they show a very high class of professionalism. Congrats Dirk for the amazing career of yours.
as a lifelong mavs fan, once the mavs got that title, i gained a tremendous respect for the spurs because we saw firsthand how difficult it was to win just one, let alone five. The rivalry has a different, more respectful feel now, imo. I think we were all just jealous of the success and came to understand how insane the spurs' run really was.
@@Posterharpua i've always had a tremendous repect for the mavs. The rivalry to me was my favorite games to watch. Not gonna lie i was cheering for dallas vs miami but that series showed great ball movement, rotations, and all out fight from the mavs
As a life long spurs fan, I have to say I loved and hated my spurs playing this guy year in and year out but he is no doubt one the greatest power forwards of all time.
It just hit him that this was his last game. He realized. Good job Spurs. classy as always and one of the few teams and organizations I do not hate or dislike
as a spurs fan, i didn't think i would tear up for the retirement of a rival. but dirk is different... his heart, his class. he was such a huge part of my childhood. (i promise you i shed no tears when kobe retired lol)
@@FrYLocK41 forced? How. He announced retirement, and all the arenas paid him respect. Stop being ignorant. A basketball player of these types of caliber deserve every and any praise. Stop the slerping
@@twistedone5683 Kobe announced his and he did not get as much respect from away crowds as Dirk. Add the fact that Dirk didn't even announce his just shows you who is more respected. Stop being a butthurt Kobetard and just accept that truth.
Still the best series I've ever seen, as a Mavs fan it was so satisfying to finally get past the Spurs, the image of Dirk driving to the basket at the end of regulation when he gets fouled by Ginobilli will always live in my memories.
My favorite series in the last 20 years....being a die-hard Spurs fan, that one was a tough one. But Dirk, Josh Howard, Devin Harris and the boys were a bit too much for the Spurs that year. Dirk was and is a really unique talent that held his own in the power forward era (Duncan, Webber, KG, Rasheed) of modern NBA.
Chris as a native San Antonio Spurs fan watching the history unfold from the first championship to the 5th, along with our local rivalries. I'd have to say I feel pretty damn lucky to witness that history play out. GSG. Congrats Dirk
I'm a Spurs fan, but was almost a Mavs fan because of Dirk. The player who made me love basketball alongside Manu Ginobili... To this day I still get emotional with those moments
