Kobe was doing this with 2 broken fingers, a freshly sprained ankle, bone spur, bad right knee & tendon issues in his shooting wrist. Kobe was limited in his mobility, but it’s still impressive how he found ways to score.
@@MK-kc8ulbelieve it or not kobe was moving better here than in 09 and 2010. Even with the injuries he was slower and less athletic in the championship years
@@lioninthesun That’s not true. Kobe sprained his ankle at the end of Game 4 vs the Hornets. Other than his Game 5 drives vs the Hornets, Kobe’s speed was gone the rest of the playoffs. He was forced to playing far from the rim in G6 vs the Hornets and the whole Dallas series and had to settle for jumpshots and nothing else.
This version of Kobe had no legs and was still a BEAST. But this was Dirk time to put his stamp on history as an All-time Great. So kudos to him for seizing the moment and being GREAT !!!
Kobe averaged 23 ppg this series, that's not a "beast." He completely choked and doesn't get called out for it. One good game then gets outplayed. They get swept by a Mavs team with less talent.
@@turtleislandlac1490 Kobe had 2 broken fingers, a freshly sprained ankle, bone spur, bad right knee, and tendon issues in his shooting wrist. Kobe’s mobility was super limited and he had to find creative ways to score instead of doing what he normally does. On top of that, 2 out of the 4 games this series was Kobe looking to pass first in the hopes of getting his teammates going. In all honesty, Kobe shouldn’t have even been playing. He should have sat out this season and gotten all the proper surgeries he needed instead.
@@MK-kc8ul bruh stop, kobe is my all time favorite. But you guys really overrating him so much. Yall have reasons always. I love kobe more than any player. But i was so dissapointed on this series. Lakers had a great season, mavs just better on this series and the whole run
@@lukamagicgod but lebron has bosh and wade and still lost to the mavs give Kobe bosh and wade you think he ain’t gonna win this series he had no offensive help like lebron did
Things definitely looked bad for them. The Hornets should’ve been an easy sweep for the Lakers but the Lakers struggled heavily to find consistent offense. Kobe, who was already riddled with a bunch of injuries, added an ankle sprain to that large list right before the playoffs. The team chemistry was awful at the end of the year as they kept going on losing streaks, losing even to terrible teams.
You know the play before Kidd is guarding him, Terry leaves Fisher to double, and Kobe still is able to get to the rim, where he was met by Tyson Chandler, if he does the Kobe Bryant play instead of the LeBron I think they win this game
Thats the turning point of that whole series. If that ball did go in, Lakers would have that momentum and confidence they needed badly during that series. They could drag that series to game 7 and win or lose. That was anybody's series if that ball went in, too bad it didnt and the broom did its work.
Pau gasol stated his mind was not in this series because of allegations of Shannon Brown sleeping with his wife around this time in the Lakers used all the energy trying to get the number one seed they went on a 18-1 tear after All Star break people don't remember the Lakers blew the Mavericks out just before the playoffs started the Spurs and other heavy hitters in the West
They we're tired for playing almost 3 years straight because of playing in the finals with a tough competition especially in the playoffs and the lakers also didn't acquire younger talent that can fit and help kobe play because his the main guy of the purple and gold
I knew I heard something about that. Ironic I still think missing Ron artest for that third game effected us defensively. Having Lamar start made us lose depth off the bench. As is Blake and the “killer b’s” was having a bad series
If you remember, they didn't play all that well in the series vs New Orleans. I'm a Mavs fan and to me, we caught them at the best time. They were seriously playing on fumes. They went to three straight finals. Their legs were done. Dallas killed them on the perimeter all series long.
Loved this Mavs team and this run for Dirk. He'd been one of my favorite players in the league since 2001. Maybe the prettiest fade away I've seen (that includes Jordan and LeBron). I remember Kobe missing the game winner in this game, but didn't realize he had 1 or 2 turnovers in the final possessions also.
@@johansencontreras2186if you can't tell the difference between this and today nba n and how they load managing and not playing defense it's trash someone on the pistons came off the bench and put up 50
The most impressive feat about this Mavs team is sweeping the defending champs Lakers. Once they swept the Lakers I know the Mavs are going to beat anyone in their playoff run.
I thought so too. I was concerned before they faced the Lakers, the two time defending champs but by the time they went 3-0 I knew then and there they were making the finals and boy they didn’t just reach but win it all🔥
The NBA actually made a change this series! It no longer matter about having dominant post up big men. If you had a legit scorer as well exceptional role players you were contending. Kobe needed a Jamal Crawford or jr smith type player who could get buckets with that second unit when he was on the bench.
This 2011 Lakers team was not the same team from 2010. Their bench was shit this season and would allow teams to close the deficit late in games. Mitch Cupcake had traded away valuable components to their bench like Jordan Farmar, Sasha vujacic, BJ Mbenga, and Josh Powell. You add Shannon Brown into that mix and you have a solid bench being led by Lamar Odom. Steve Blake was inconsistent and a down grade from Jordan Farmar in my opinion. The 2011 Lakers bench was shit, had they kept the same squad that already had chemistry they would have raped this Mavs team.
sounds like a moronic take too me, they would’ve raped the Mavs who beat the thunder in 5?, and also upset the Heatles in the Finals?, not to mention the Mavs SWEPT y’all, y’all couldn’t even take 1 game lmaooo
@@ethangreen1081 The 2011 Lakers had a garbage bench that was giving up 10-15 point deficits during the regular season. As seen in this game the lakers were up nearly 15 points and their bench blew it going into the 4th. This forced Kobe to go into hero ball to try to bail them out. The 2010 Lakers wouldn't have allowed such to happen. Mind you this same 2011 Lakers team had the dominating seasonal record over both the OKC and the Mavs for the regular season. But what they lacked was depth, the Mavs won because they not only had veteran players but a deep bench. The Mavs depth was a matchup problem for the Lakers because their bench just couldn't keep them in games. As stated before the 2011 Lakers did not have the same level of depth like the 2010 team. And that's not to take nothing away from the Mavs. But if you were to had kept the same 2009 and 2010 lakers squad together, I could have seen this series go to 6 or 7 games.
@@thestrengthreport7517 I mean they still won 57 games. I agree they weren't as good as the 2010/2009 teams but they ran into a buzzsaw in the Mavericks. Kinda just bad luck for LA tbh.
One of the key differences and huge discrepancies in this series was the 3-point shooting. You saw Kobe hot that 3-pointer early in Game 1. That was probably the only time in the series in which LA made more 3s than Dallas.
Dirk is my ultimate favorite but I also love Kobe. These two superstars were extremely talented and the best of their eras and respective franchises. Not to mention their extreme loyalty. That's why they are loved all around the league. Talented, loyal, and humble superstars. No drama, just pure basketball and doesn't need to form a superteam to win. I miss watching them competing against each other. Thanks for this video. More power.
Extreme loyalty? HAHAHAHAHAHA!!! kobe held the lakers team hostage TWICE. First to get rid of Shaq or he wasn't gonna resign. Then when he demanded a trade. Kobe worshippers are the worst.
By 2011 Kobe had made DEEP Playoff runs the last 3 years. The Lakers were out of gas after winning the last two in a row. Something Lebron would never know.
I would say wade and bosh would've smacked kobe in 2011. Lebron canonically cracks under the pressure, but yeah, LA wouldn't be winning that one. If anything, they mightve struggled to make it past OKC too. 2009 was honestly our best chance. Wasn't meant to be 😭
That shot by Kobe was like the shot of Robert Horry in game 5 in 03 against the spurs after winning a 3 peat..those shots can tell they won't winning it again....plus they're tired...
5:01 Jack Nicholson: "Wow". Yes Jack, Nowitzki will be shooting sum free throws in the final seconds of the 4th quarter in the last 20 seconds of the game.
if kobe hit that 3, there's still probably enough time left for a catch and shoot(assuming mavs have a timeout left) and Lakers had no way to stop Dirk, so idk
@@xaviervega468 Yeah you're right now that I think about it. Dirk was on a mission win in 2011, plus I remember throughout thew 2010-11 regular season, it was pretty evident that the Lakers weren't going to 3 peat. Not to take away any credit from the Mavs, but the Lakers looked like a shell of the team that went to 3 straight Finals. They looked uninterested and exhausted.
@@seabuschan5677 Dirk destroyed three big teams in that play-off run. Westbrook, Durant, Harden Wade, Lebron, Bosh Kobe, Gasol. One of the most historical performance ever
This Lakers copied the 98 Bulls look during this playoffs. The black shoes and black socks home or away games. It was lit and had the swag look. Too bad they didnt win it all that year.
@@TyroneNBAFan I get it bro I get it...im just still pissed i guess lol...we came off 2 wins and I was fuckin pumped "KOBE IS GUNNA GET A SECOND THREE PEAT" this is how I was thinking back then. It just sucked the way we lost that post-season getting swept.
Kobe played like shit as well. Only 23 a game on 45% shooting and 22% shooting from 3 is nothing to write home about. Game 1 was literally his only good game of the series.
@@xaviervega468 Yeah, Kobe was pretty bad that series also. It's not like he averaged 30+ on great efficiency while his teammates stunk it up. What people are missing is that this Mavs team just played a more modern brand of basketball, with smart veteran players and an amazing coach.
@@chironjo Kobe was one of my favorite players but I have to be honest he chocked here the turnover was more devastating than the miss shot which was devastating in of itself to the Lakers chances of winning the series and unfortunately they got swept. With that being said I think even Kobe would admit that this was not one of his better performances.
