Not a Toyota guy but I appreciate everyone’s adventures. I’ve been all up and down from LaPaz to the Rubicon in 30 yrs of wheeling. It never gets old and you still see stuff you missed every time. NV, AZ, UT and CO too. Watching these as I rewire my old Ramcharger makes me realize how lucky I was growing up in Vegas. About to start exploring the east coast and south now since moving to SC.
Death Valley magic, even more impressive coming from the PNW. Your compilation conveys the desert feel/sensations/noises and one could almost smell the whiskey & ghost pepper sauce. Nice design of your front bumper, many people go overboard and mess up the air flow, affecting cooling, mpg and dynamics. I can't see any significant sway in the suspension, considering the center of gravity of the camper; that should help both off road and badly engineered mountain tarmac. I am appreciating more and more the "everyday living" segments: camper's plumbing, food, drink and making new "friends". Looking forward to your next segment.
I have just found your channel, I have to say I have not been jealous of anyone in a very long time, but I can honestly say that you two are living a dream of mine that I'm hoping will become a reality as my 3 sons grow up and start their own lives. Wishing you both safe travels.
I use to live in Beatty as a kid. I would ride my dirt bike often to Rhyolite. Back then/1970ish a very old lady lived at the train depot. She had nice trees and plants so lots of shade and sold ice cold drinks which I would buy after a hot day of motorcycling.
What an incredible area. The valley looks so barren and appears as if it would be 100f+, yet it's cold and surrounded by snowy peaks. The mind is challenged to comprehend. I am rarely jealous of anything, but a girlfriend that can make off-the-cuff jokes about a welded axle would tempt me. Your closing thanks us for coming along, but really, thank you guys for sharing your adventure.
1:41 Word from the wise, put a ziptie through the D-shackle bolt and secure it as they can back out from vehicle vibration. True story; I was at Burning Man and had my rig parked on the playa. A new friend was looking over my rig and told me I should secure my D-shackle with wire or a ziptie. I ignored his advice. After Burning Man we were going to Vegas to decompress. I was in the middle of nowhere in Nevada and I heard a clunk and my tire kicked something red up. I saw something flying in my mirror so I pulled off wondering what just fell off my FJ Cruiser. It was my D-shackle. If someone had been behind me it would have been bad. Now I secure my D-ring bolts. 5:40 It is ok to mix whiskey and beer but don't invite tequila ... 13:54 What an epic view, so lucky to be in the right place at the right time. Full on dry dessert with snow top to bottom on the mountains. Great video!
I had to pause the video at 14:09 to take it all in... what a gorgeous shot! 😍😍😍 such a unique mix of land scape! also a unique mix of Toyota parts lol
Nice video of my old stomping grounds. I lived in Bishop for 15 years. Also like the walk around of the rig you did in the Alabama Hills. The Owens Valley is a beautiful place. I look forward to your further explorations.
I hear some people camping at police department when traveling. Wake up in the morning. All stuff outside the truck will be gone. Lights spare tire... someone always stays up at night. Different world.
First and foremost, I think you guys have hit the sweet spot and become the best overlanding channel out there. I'm really looking forward to this trip. Secondly, what are your thoughts on cast iron over stainless steel when cooking on gas? I have both and use difficult to heat up cast on wood fires and s/s on precious gas/diesel (less easily available fuel).
Greetings from the once more frozen Okanagan - again you picked a good winter to skip out on. The KC lights were "the thing" to have back in the '70's even, though then we'd hear the big V8 slow down and the alternator belt squeal when we put them on! :) The new LED lights are wonderful. Stay well and travel safe you two.
For reference, there is a big BLM fine for feeding those donkeys. Got warned a couple times by the locals in as I was patching a tire in Beatty where the herd goes to hang out. Also, just between Rhyolite and Death Valley, there is a kind of arts colony/outdoor sculpture park if you take the access road to the north.
Another awesome video! I’ll be at hammer as well. Will definitely keep an eye out. Message me if you need any parts I have a buddy who has everything and he’ll be out there as well. Safe travels.
Great views and great video overall, congrats ! If I may however, please check your audio balance for us headphone users. Your voiceover and some (not all, strangely) footage audio is stuck on the left channel only, which sounds really weird :-). Keep on the good work.
That area is so cool. Bishop and Big Pine area. I hope you can get up in the Inyo. Great trails. And check out Yosemite. I spent a ton of time in that area a couple years ago fighting fire. Most of CA you can have it but I love it around there. I’m living vicariously through you guys and will be for a long while the way things are looking 😊
Aren’t the landscapes there so dramatic? BC is awesome, and beautiful, but the slick rock of Utah, the desert and those mountains have such a huge vista, it is so foreign to a Canadian. And the night sky…..
Dude, the Mt. Tom and the Owen's Valley is beautiful this time of year! Not sure if you guys are still in the eastern sierras, but I'm a local and know some solid trails over in the Panamint Valley if you guys are looking for some more desert offroading!
You bought lights in Williams, Az? There are only around 4 tourist shops and 2 gas stations there! I take my Jeep up there every winther to play in the snow.
"Off-the Hook Chinook". I'd love to trade lives with you. Been calculating gear ratios all day. My '80 long bed project is about to begin. Looks like 5.39's, 35's and a doubler. (I'm sure you know what I said).
This is such a fun adventure- I was going to do something "similar" with one of my boys (22 now) and our rigs- but Covid and a broken wrist (his) shut that down- so I'm living vicariously through you two now- just love this! I do have one question- the rig looks a little low in back- I understand it's heavier back there- is there a way to pick it up more with maybe heavier lift springs? Seems kind of nose-light... otherwise one of the coolest rigs out there.
Thank you! When we bought the truck, it was hanging in it, and after searching through the glove box, someone had made a sticker and put it in the owners manual that said “Gypsy Wheeler.” We weren’t going to name it Gypsy wheeler but we thought we could keep a little bit of its Gypsy heritage haha
@@ToyotaWorldRunners that is amazing. I’m jealous of what you guys have achieved and I look forward to my journey out in the wild. You guys are an inspiration. keep it up!! 😁
Loving the adventure so far, Nevada death valley spectacular!!! Just a quick question are you thinking of adding front guard flares to the rig? Enjoy your wonderful trip 👊 and the Shaun Whale Reference Gold!!
Clara! She's a dream boat. Keeps the coffee hot for ages. We got her randomly at a store in Nevada called Home Goods. (It's actually called Clara btw, lol).
Once again another great video of your adventures. You guys look like your having the time of your lives.Did you two stopped in at Cerro Gordo? How does the Chinook perform on the highway?Especially hills and cruising speed? Thanks for taking the time and energy to share another video.
They absolutely should visit Cerro Gordo if they can! I watch the video channel Ghost Town Living and That would be a cool place to explore. The Eastern Sierras are gorgeous in the winter! I have spent quite a bit of time in the Owens Valley. Safe travels!!!! Looking forward to more content.
@Mark Ely Yes I Brett Channel too, that's why I suggested them visiting there.Several years ago I stayed at a couple volunteer cabins in Death Valley with my family.
Love the build and the adventures so far, but I'm concerned about your choice in tire size when you get south of the American border. Anything bigger than 32" is not very common.
Thank you guys for sharing your adventures! I’ve been enjoying some of your older adventures as well. Love the dedication and effort put into the Yeti and the Chinook!
