Sicilian defense was absolutely kicking my ass up until this series of videos. Thank you so much!!!!!

I'm not kidding myself it's making me a GM, but there are a lot of tactical themes that are nice to hammer home. Very helpful for blitz play, and just generally how to translate an early initiative into a long-term, eventually crushing advantage.

Hello, I play chess every Wednesday at a local chess club and this past Wednesday I knew I was playing white so I prepared on Tuesday with your videos against the Sicilian defense and indeed my opponent played the Dragon. It was a different variation of the Dragon but I crushed him and he's rated 100 points higher than me. Thanks for the videos.

At 05:30, I think the immediate Rxf6 is stronger than Qe3. This threatens a discovered check to win the queen, and if ... Nxf6 then Bxf6 is mate.
@GunsNRosified
@GunsNRosified 9 лет назад
Gary Sturgess At first I thought this was best as well so I checked with an engine. At first the computer agreed but then realized that Qc3 was in fact best. It's not a mate if his knight recaptures our rook because he blocks the check with his rook on g7, if we take the rook with our bishop, he takes our bishop with the King and he has the h6 square to temporarily hide on if we check again with Qc3
@nathanielng8516

3:05 black can capture the e6 pawn. If Nxe6, Bxc3+ comes with check so black won't lose the bishop.
@dahcois
@dahcois 4 года назад
This is true but the engine actually does not like this move because it seems to lead to a position where black has limited development and king safety, and in particular knight C7 is a big threat. Bxc3+ seems pretty natural so definitely something to look out for.

It's true. Then White can pack his bags and go home. To be fair, he is just offering some tricks and all tricks come with refutations.
@tdekoekkoek
@tdekoekkoek 3 года назад
@@TimJapan this is not a refutation. White will be a pawn down but blacks positions is horrible. White can continue Qd4 hitting the Rock on h8 followed by Bf4 threatening Nc7 and black is struggling to survive

You make a disclaimer about this not being hard-core analysis, but for some of us, these "tricks" deepen our understanding of themes in these openings that we otherwise would miss, clearing up a LOT of confusion about GM games, where we idiots ask "But what about this other move? Why didn't he try it? Why wasn't it refuted in the annotations?" The Bb2 move might be overlooked by one such as I, because it gives up the a-pawn. But it's the KEY to getting both Knight and Bishop off the back rank, without allowing Black to trade off Queens or obtain the 2nd rook for the Queen, which if you can survive the middle-game is an edge to Black. I wasn't even thinking about how the a-file is totally cordoned off by White pieces.

At this position 1:48 I think best move is black do: bg4 which threatening to capture queen. If C3 knight blocks he could give check and capture your pawn. if u try to save by blocking D4 knight he could exchange Queens. or U try to block by bishop he could exchange bishop . when U exchange bishop U can take it by your knight or queen , If knight takes as i said above he could do . If U take by king it will be worst because he will lost his ability to castle. Obivous move to take by queen but he takes your Knight which was first defended by queen . U can also take his knight with your pawn and opponents queen or bishop takes your pawn . At this situation it will not be such an greeat advantage for white. if you read till here then thanks for reading and your awesome.

hi Gunjan, today I have played this same game but lost following this theory ! at 2:09 after taking black knight. black takes white queenXqueen ! and after capturing black queen by white knight to avoid rook fork by black knight! black pushes a6 pawn to attack white bishop and after bishop goes back ba4 , then black bishop bd7 ! so no material advantage for white ! maximum one pawn advantage since both knight and bishop are attacked! whatever , you are always awesome ! I have learnt a lot of chess from your videos ! currently I am a 1900 rated player at chess.com !

Hi, at around 2:45, after Bishop check and Knight G4, what if black blocks the check with Nd7.. Instead of Nc6 or Bd7....

+Rochana HM if black block the check with bishop or knight at D7 black will loose a knight at G4 and if black block the check with knight to C6 and simply white knight at D4 take black knight at C6, if black exchange the queen and simply white king eat back black queen and black pawn take Nc6 and white bishop take back to attack black king and black rook. thumps up

Following Nc3 - a6 always played in the Najdorf variation,stops Bb5 or Nb5 and black is equal,What next?

9:11 After black moves from the check postition, white has to move the knight on f6. This gives black the chance to grab the other knight on b1 and level the game once more! I don't really see the advantage white has in such a position, except that he is ahead in development and closer to castling. Don't think black is in that big a disatvantage in this game.

At 9:15 you say its two pieces for a rook, but in this position, after black king moves to d8, white can only save one knight, the other will be captured no matter what. Can someone explain pls.

At 3.27, when White Bishop goes to C4 and gives a check, what will happen if the King goes to E8?

After 6.f4 just don't go for Bg7. Nc6 should be played instead and Black is even slightly better after e5, according to Stockfish. But thanks for this great clip, it really shows how easy it is to lose with Dragon, something I know too well :D :D :D
