Thanks! I feel you can get that sound with direct solutions... but the wealth of IRs and stuff is often overwhelming and there is a lot of crap out there.
Dang... now you have me Jonesing for that burnt orange and black PJD... that was one of my favorites I got to play at GS4... missing you guys! Bad Cat is the BOMB! Planning to get one... very soon! 😎🤘🎸
Hi Henning, can you spent a few words on the master volumne and how effective it works. Can you play this amps at Neighbourhood Level. Thanks in Advance! (great playing!)
I played the cub at a guitar store and found I got the od tones at low master volume as far as I know they combined the old kmaster and master into one knob. I’d assume the hot cat is similar
I own a 2005 Hot Cat 30r with BC 2x12. It's a great amp, but channel 2 on my amp is not so great. I get the impression that Bad Cat kept the great sound of channel 1 and redesigned channel 2. Much better sounding on these new amps.
I remember playing badcats in music stores in the past, they do have a beautiful clean tone and very nice saturation on the gain side . For the love of Cats isn’t that the little ditty you played?
What I don't quite understand is that it's undoubtedly a quality brand, but they use Celestion Vintage 30 speakers inside. Given that 80% of the sound and tone comes from the speaker, using speakers that almost everyone uses doesn't help them stand out. It would have been great if they had used completely different speakers for each of their combo amps. We're losing a lot of originality here.
For a while they had custom speakers that were just v30s slightly made different OEM, their amps have nearly always been designed around that speaker. I am guessing an off the shelf speaker also helps to save costs.
We still use the exclusive UK built BC custom Celestion V30 in a majority of our amps, so nothing has changed on that front. There are a handful of amps and cabs in the range which use a standard V30 because it simply sounded right to us - Really nothing more complicated than that. You can see that it's unrelated to price as the lowest price BC model (The Cub) uses the BC V30 and the highest priced (the Jet Black) uses the standard V30. R&D at Bad Cat isn't done in a lab or on a spreadsheet. It's a few guitar/amp obsessives playing and experimenting with different things in order to find the best combination (and to get to play guitar more....). All of our amps sound different, so doggedly sticking to one driver despite it not suiting all of them would be a bit silly, but perhaps the immediate assumption that it's done to save money is a reflection of people's prior experience? Perhaps as an industry we need to do a better job of explaining this stuff, but how many people are interested or believe us? I don't know, but I do know that's not how we operate. Our site shows which model speaker is used in each amp/cab, for reference, BTW. You're so right about the speaker being a big part of the amp's sound though, and everyone has their favourites so we'll never be able to keep them all happy. We try and pick the best for the amp whilst considering the type of player who will be using it and that seems to have been working for us well so far. Experimenting with speakers is great fun though.... 😁
I love the tone of this amp by itself, but in a mix it just disappears. Its missing the tones that make a great amp stand out in a mix. I've really wanted to like it, but if it doesn't fit I'll never get one.
