Disassembling the Lincoln Welder Generator- Part 1

This is an older video from 2 weeks ago when my Dad and I started in on the welder. I wanted to get the engine split apart to have a good look inside so I could see how things were. Most everything came apart pretty easily and the generator half seemed to be in good shape also.

Hello 5Tractorguy, I couldn't figure out how to split my Lincwelder 225, and jumped on youtube. Thanks for the video and keep up the great work! It showed me I am over my head! Tractors split easier than that old lincoln! Keep up the great work! It helped me!

I tried using a gm coil pack and battery in place of magneto coil. I may have hooked up wires wrong or to powerful of condenser cause coil pack got hot and split but I did get spark. Any suggestions?

Hi 5Tractorguy! My husband has enjoyed all of your Videos! Can you please answer a question concerning the Lincoln Welder 225 with Onan Motor. He wants to know if it takes (2) 6 Volt Batteries or (2) 12 Volt Batteries. He doesn't have a Manual. This is so old and hasn't been used for probably 40 years. We would Greatly appreciate your assistance. Thank YOU!

Hi Angel! I looked though a manual that I scanned years ago and didn't find anything related to the batteries (only scanned certain pages at the time unfortunately). If I'm not mistaking, I believe it was (2) 12V batteries hooked in series to make 24V. I remember back when I tried to use the electric start on one of mine, having to hook the batteries up like so, along with reading somewhere that the charging output is 24V back to the battery. DO you know fella if a Onan P216 engine has a 5 1/2 oil pan as standard size ?? The engine take just under 4 quarts of oil Sir. Thanks for your help too. vf

Thanks Trent, glad you enjoyed it. As for these model Lincolns, I'm not sure off hand. Haven't looked around much. If you're looking for parts for the SA, SAE, Pipeliner or Classic, bwparts.com/ has a good selection of parts for Continental Engines and the welder.

They do. Cummins own them now and the parts are very expensive. You can find a lot of them here- onanparts.com

Hi I know that's this is an older video I have that same exact welder and my Onan engine is shot. Do you know if I could do away with the onan and use a different engine? Thanks!

Hey Jarrett, you can but you'll have to do some fancy fab work. You'd have to either make a shaft that fits into the tapered hole in the welders flywheel and fab a bracket with a flanged bearing to put the shaft through and keep the armature inline and stable (on the idea of having a belt driven generator head), or find another engine with the correct tapered crank. It's an odd size taper though... probably about 2" OD and stubby.

i have a lincoln electric power arc 4000 125 amp welder generator but i dont know what the part that mounts the motor to the welder is called! can ANYONE please help me??

They're either called motor mounts, iso mounts, anti-vibration mounts... that's what I've heard them called over the years. Do you just have a square block of rubber that sandwiches between the welder and frame, or do you have an actual mount? Lord (lord.com) make a ton of different mounts for motors and what not. If anything, they may be a good reference to find the original style or something that would adapt.
