This is a Disassembly video on how to take apart the Acer Aspire One D255E, you can use this video on reference on how to disassemble other Acer Aspire computers as well.
Step 1: Remove the Key board by using a Small flat head screwdriver and release the pins on the top of the keyboard and gently pry the key board up, now open the slide holding the ribbon in place and remove the key board.
Step 2: Remove the Screws shown in the video, Should be 7, and now flip the laptop over and remove the 7 screws on the bottom, now you'll be able to pry the mouse pad top panel away from the bottom. BE SURE to remove the masking tape (if any) and release the ribbon for the mouse pad itself and then remove the panel.
Step 3: Flip the computer back over to look at the bottom, Take a small flathead Screw driver and pry off the bottom panel exposing the Hard Drive, Wireless card and RAM (memory).
Step 4: To remove the Hard Drive, remove the one screw holding it in place, Slide it out and pull up and wala, hard drive is out.
Step 5: To remove the Wireless card, Remove the one screw holding it in place and also disconnect the white and black antennas and pop it up to a 45 degree angle and slide it out.
Step 6: Removing the RAM is easy too, take the two latches, one on either side and push them towards the walls of the RAM chamber and the RAM will pop up and simply pull it out.
Step 7: To remove the motherboard, flip the computer up-right. First Remove the LCD panel at the bottom left corner, Remove the one screw and release the ribbon and remove the panel. Now you want to unplug the LCD Screen, Just pull gently on the cable shown gently till its unplugged. No unplug the AC adaptor, again gently. Now remove the 2 screws holding the speaker in place and unplug the speaker and remove the speaker and finally unplug the webcam from the driver board section top right, now just flip the computer over and push gently on the board.
Step 8: Once the board is removed you can now remove the Fan and Heat Sync, To do this remove the 2 screws on the fan and the one holding the heat sync in place, now unplug the fan gently and remove the Fan Heat Sync assembly. Now you have the bare board.
SCREEN DISASSEMBLY:
Remove the two tabs on the bottom of the screen from uncovering 2 screws, remove these screws and then pry off the front frame gently revealing the interior. Now remove the 2 or 4 screws (depending on the model) holding the screen in place. Now remove the 1 or 2 screws (depending on the model) holding the Web Cam board in place and remove that
Disassembly Complete :)

Thanks for the video. Replaced the heatsink & keyboard of my 2010 AspireOne D255 today. After 10 years still alive with new battery, lcd & ssd in 2020 running Windows 7. Just enough to play 540p-480p.

Thank you. From this disassembly video --- and my attempt to get the touch pad working with the result that the keyboard will not re-plug properly now so who cares whether the pad works or not --- I have had a great learning experience. I have discovered that the materials the Acer is comprised of barely came together to make contact during the factory assembly process... and they probably tossed out a great many that didn't. Then they gingerly (and desperately) sold the ones that did work, quickly. Multiple points of contact, all critical to its operation were subject to variations in temperature and many, in a wonderful miracle, worked for awhile. I have run out of miracles, the miracle machine is broken and along with it any feeling of empowerment I once had that any repair attempt, even if meticulously executed, was doomed to anything but failure because the device itself was doomed to failure. I came of age around the time it was discovered that gold plating is essential and saves money, but more important a time when no engineer would have dared suggest that the thrusting surface of a male connector could be anything but mechanically rigid, or the female relying on clamping without springiness in each individual contact also. Those people are dead now. Maybe I will be dead also before long because medical devices too are constructed to be 'barely working' in the same crappy way and now rely on a healthy economy and constant total replacement. When the economy crashes we will no longer have our Eastern supply line of flaky/new devices, the robust designs of the '80s and early '90s now live in the landfill, and we'll be rolling back to leeches, that did not work anyway. On computers, I will try now to salvage as much pre-2008 desktop PC hardware as possible because it is the last generation that was accessible enough to repair, and which every connection was mechanically sound. For me, the portable computer is a thing of the past because I will be trying to get a head start on the future when having anything working at all... even things that can only run obsolete OS, will be valuable. And with proper care, not unreliable.

At 5:55 be gentle when removing the bottom cover. There is not much room for a screwdriver there. Try something thiner but hard, such as a knife. Start with the front side (opposite to the battery side). I've tried to open it from the battery side and all I did was breaking one of the plastic braces... So be careful with that. PS: If you are worried about disconnecting the white ribbon, don't be. There is a piece of transparent plastic attached to the ribbon that helps you pulling it out and pushig it back in. And it is not that fragile.

I am replacing the power jack on the D255 model, very poorly put in. The issue seems from what has happend to my labtop and what I am reading, the power jack loosens over time and wobbles around not to much just enough to where when you plug it in, the charging light does not come on, but when you move the adapter plug up or to a certain side...it will charge. I will first test it by putting in a new on, then if it still does it, I will crazy glue the bottom of the jack.

Word of advice from a fellow computer tech. Use plastic or vinyl spudgers rather than a screw driver to help disconnect ribbon cables and wires. You can very easily damage a cable using metal screwdivers. Also please blow you nose after sneezing.

Really need to see how to replace that BIOS battery. Does it come out, or do I have to solder it back in?
@D3AtHrAiN333
@D3AtHrAiN333 5 лет назад
The CMOS batter for your Bios is soldered to the board and you need to replace it with a micro soldering iron and it helps to have a solder sucker as well, when soldering don’t heat up the solder heat up where the connections are and place the solder on the connections once the batter is in place and just a quick tap with the solder should do it

@D3AtHrAiN333

@D3AtHrAiN333

it really shouldn't matter like your Wifi card and cpu fan and speakers and screen will be fine, your RAM might be bad it may not it depends on what caused your board to fry. but for the most part if your motherboard just crapped out on its own with no random surge of power, al the other components should be fine

Hey mate, could you help me out? I'm lost on where the cmos battery is, could you locate it for me?
@D3AtHrAiN333
@D3AtHrAiN333 6 лет назад
The CMOS battery should be a little Blue framed battery located on the board after removing the top paneling for the keyboard and mouse, the battery has a little piece of metal attached to it and that is soldered to the mother board so you will need to micro solder in order to replace it. in the video at 9:30 you can see the battery right in the middle at the bottom of the screen

My aspire is showing old date.... So How to change cmos battery in this laptop? Pls reply
@D3AtHrAiN333
@D3AtHrAiN333 Год назад
You may have to micro solder it to the board instead of just simply replacing. If so get a precise soldering iron and only heat the board segments that com in contact with solder, clean the contact with flux and then apply new solder, hear it back up and press battery into place

Hi! Very, very nice video. I know this is pretty old and I don’t know if you still check the comments here but whatever, here’s my question. I have this exact netbook completely unusable. The plug for the power input no longer works so yeah, this won’t turn on ever again unless I replace the plug. So I was wondering, there’s some data I would like to recover from this computer. Do you think that if I take out the HDD (I think I might be able to do it) and get an USB adapter to plug the HDD into another computer, maybe I could recover all the data that was on this old Acer? Like music, pictures, videos and all that stuff. Thanks in advance :)
@D3AtHrAiN333
@D3AtHrAiN333 5 лет назад
Yeah that’s correct if you replace the plug the computer may take a charge if not it might be the board it self that has failed or the battery but yes you can take the HDD out and use a SATA USB adapter, get a 3.0 usb version tho so it transfers power, and then you can read the data to another laptop/pc/Mac etc. just remember if you had any administrator passwords you may have to punch them in to access the files

Might have to look at Hard Drive failure as an option, although it would still boot up the BIOS first, try removing the CMOS battery and then try booting again, if that doesnt work your board might be shot, i was gonna say try booting with the battery out but you already tried that
