Wow this reminds me of fire at the Cocoanut Grove in Boston Massachusetts during World War II at least 55 military personnel was killed in that fire that ultimately claimed 491 lives.

Cocoanut Grove happened Saturday November 28, 1942 and this one was exactly two weeks later on Saturday December 12, 1942. I'd never even heard about the one in this video.

Reminds me of how the Our Lady of the Angels school fire occurred. Got up in the attic and couldn't break through the roof due to all of the tar paper on the roof. Burst through the ceiling on the 2nd floor and those kids and nuns didn't stand a chance :(

Any time fire is involved it just seems to be a new kind of horror. I couldn’t even imagine. This one seems even worse because it was a lot of servicemen- people who protected their country.

It’s from old tv program footage, the uploader didn’t add it. Blame the original creator.

Wow. I have never heard of this fire. I thought after the Coconut Grove more public places internationally would have their doors hinged outwards. As an American, I think Canadian service members deserve more credit in the wars of the 21st century. They too fought hard for freedom. Also, if this was intentional....I hope that person has a nice toasty corner of Hell saved for them. There is war, and then just flat out murder. Setting fire to a building full of sleeping men and dance party in the middle of a civilian population is just cowardly in my book. As my Grandpa mentioned (fought in the Pacific during WW2) “At least the Japanese attacked military facility and some of the soldiers did/were able to fight back”. Apparently some Japanese pilots (a few exceptions looking at bullets in a few civilian buildings) felt great shame learning we were not given the mandatory 1/2 warning declaration of war before they were attacked. They could not speak out for fear or retaliation, but I remember one elderly Japanese pilot during an interview.....he looked like he wanted to cry when he learned what had happened. He still felt so much shame. Even in the Samurai tradition, if stealth was used, you did not kill your enemy while he slept, but kicked him out of bed and threw him a sword to at least give him a fighting chance. War is getting uglier and uglier it seems. There is no honor in war, period. But there needs to be some standards it seems. Now we can just kill from half a world away without even seeing our enemy, I fear this will result in the near or total extinction of the human race. Even in the chaos of war, seeing your enemy sometimes elicits sparks of humanity (stories from WW1 and WW2) for both sides. In our instinctive drive for total domination and conquest, often both sides loose. Maybe not in the short term, but in the long term.

The intro mentioned another story about a train in addition to the fire, but it seems to have been cut out. Is it available in the full-length version of this episode?

If there had been fire hydrants and sprinklers installed in the building and the constables had alerted the fire brigade, no one would have been killed.

Yeah. It's a shame those constables wasted all that time getting people out. I'm sure they would have been fine taped in there for another 10-20 minutes while they waited for the fire brigade.
@TakersSoulGirl22
@TakersSoulGirl22 Год назад
What are you talking about? Those Constables saved lives. They are heroes. If they had have ran off to alert the fire brigade, more people would have died then just the 99 because they would have been waiting at least 10 minutes while trapped in there.

Huh.. this is the only video on YT I could find about the incident o-o and was hoping to find a thread about it on Reddit but nope.. (can be some interesting discussions there). Tis a shame the firemen were alerted too late.. admiration for those who risked their lives (even losing them) to help save others. Never a good idea to block exits when you got so many people present.. if they were really worried about light, maybe keep some people on guard at the doorways to make sure people weren't leaving the doors open.. and maybe have em just squeeze through to minimize light. Idk..

Actually I would say the Seven Years War in Europe was one of the first world wars. The 14th Century in Europe seen continuous warfare. But since recorded history and I'm sure before that, war has just been in are nature because humans can't stop being humans.
