Toward the end of this video, the witnesses describe "...those screams." Yeah, I know all too well "...those screams" As a (now retired) paramedic, I heard "those screams" too many times. They're not like the screams you hear emanating from a roller coaster, for example. More like the wailing of a banshee. Hard to really describe. But, once you've heard them, you never forget them. What's even worse, is when those screams stop - that's an eerie silence, and you know what that means - it means that the people who were screaming like banshees are now dead, and you will have to recover the damaged, mangled bodies, and you find yourself thinking - PLEASE, no dead children. Those experiences seem to last forever, at least in my mind.
People like you are amazing. I've only ever heard 1 scream that sounded non human but was a mother whos child had died. I was in hospital with my youngest. A emergancy got rushed in and all the drs swarmed to that lid and a side room. Not long after us other patients on the closest ward heard.a. womans screams but it wasnt a normal scream. Then we saw the nurses an era wiping their years away an trying to go bk to helping others. It was a sobering day. Not long after the details was in the local newspaper. Such a tragic accident.
Former firefighter here, TRUTH! There was a fellow firefighter that had just got a son about a week ago. We drove to a fire, and he got a baby out of the fire.Baby didn't breath, so he began artificial respiration. When he lifted his head up to breathe - the skin of the baby's face stuck to his face. He never recovered from that.

To those who work in this line of business (or even to the civilians who rushed to help those dying) and have witnessed tragedy that sticks with you forever, be it the screams to the motionless bodies recovered, my heart goes out to you.
A friend was at the Airfield in Sioux City, Iowa doing his National Guard duty when the DC-10 crashed in 1989. He found a section of aircraft seating in a field with several motionless people. None of whom looked like they were even injured, but they were all dead. That bothered him more then the damaged or burnt bodies and he eventually got a medical retirement from the National Guard due to the PTSD.
But the pilots were murderers indoctrinated in a system of paranoia. THEY HAD NO BUSINESS FLYING AND MURDERING THOSE HELPLESS PEOPLE oh, I forgot That's their modus operandi. Killing innocent people.
This tragedy is one that I heard of when I moved to Ottawa. I never knew the string of events to bring the CF-100 and the Villa St. Louis together. . I hope that the survivors and the people who came to help can find peace after all of these years. Thank God that there are brave people who rush into danger to rescue people with little regards to their own safety. True heroes and the definition of brave.
The people from the community who went to the aid of these nuns are true heroes and as such they don't see themselves as having done anything heroic, that's what true heroism is made of, men and women who run towards danger to lend a hand with no regard for their own safety.
Dear decapitate: I agree with you but I can't say as much for that jet pilot. It's hard for me to believe that the jet hit a building surrounded by so much open space by coincidence. The explanation that the 2 pilots somehow lost consciousness and that their jet coincidentally hit the largest building in "the middle of nowhere" is as probable as winning the lottery. My money says that the pilot committed suicide & decided to take some others with him. ... So.Experienced@gmail.com
These are very well told stories bringing these tragic accidents to life but keeping the memory alive of those lost and the brave souls who helped. Thank you for sharing and helping do that.
There's a reason you've never heard of them. Only American disasters, failures and fuckups are worldwide news. Canada, the U.K., Australia, New Zealand and other much more "racially pure" countries with "constitutional monarchies" and ruled by inbred elitists are "above" such things. Or at least much better at "forgetting" them when it comes time to write "history books". They're also very good at finding ways to "blame America". Having complete control of TRANSPORTATION and IMMIGRATION also are key to their "open" so-called democracies still being so "closed" when it comes to covering up how incapable their countries are of doing things and building things right the first time. The reason you rarely hear of disasters in the UK, Canada, Australia, Nz is the british culture of " blaming the odds". Nobody is really held responsible. They are reluctant to find a culprit. And when they cannot find a culprit they either blame a scapegoat or blame it on the odds. IT's so typical.
In June of 1888 the Sisters of Charity founded Saint Mary's General Hospital in Lewiston providing quality care for all faiths. Sadly in the 80's the nuns had to sell the hospital due to lack of young women entering the nunnery. It still is operating today as part of a large group of hospitals.
I remember when I was eight years old when my father was in the RCAF a CF-100 crashed into the base hospital in 2 Wing in France. My mother had taken me there for a stye in my eye just a few hours before. I got lucky.

Thanks, the first few seasons are very Canadian focused but it branches out to the rest of the world. These were on Discovery and History channels in their original run.
I was born and raised in Ottawa. I am almost 62 years old. I am amazed to learn of this tragic event today. I was schooled in the Ottawa public school system. I can’t believe that we are not taught some of our local history. Thanks for bringing this story to light; even as tragic and sad as it was.
It's not a load of crap. My mother was one of the people that went to help on the day. She has past away now, but if she was alive she would tell you what she saw that day and I'm sure you would have a different opinion

Sound levels are difficult -- the interviews are too low in volume, especially in contrast to the voice over. After constantly have to adjust my volume control, I gave up.
Another example of military stupidity. This time it killed innocent people. Can't say that I'm surprised. I'm also not surprised that they are making excuses for the crash either.

Nuns are the most selfless people on earth. I was educated by the good Sisters of Notre Dame in the 1950's. In my high school years I worked for them at their convent. I kept contact with several of them until they passed away. They are truly good people. This tragedy is simply wrong. How can a God make these good sisters endure such a senseless evil.The last sister said "there's a purpose" for this tragedy. That's another way of saying "God works in mysterious ways." Sorry, I don't buy into that. I had. but lost, the gift of faith a long time ago.
In these excellent videos l can hear the narrator quite clearly but unfortunately can barely hear those who survived, could we please have their voices, which are important, amplified somehow. Other than that great story. Like many, l wonder why the jet just suddenly crashed into monastery.

9:02 - I have to say, that animation made me *REALLY* uncomfortable to watch, it looks too eerily and darkly suspicious in its similarity to the Pentagon crash on 9/11 that they often use a simulation to illustrate, (along with that last one second of cctv footage that was caught of it flying directly into the building’s side) and obviously it was similarly somewhat reminiscent of the other two crashes at the WTC Twin Towers, on that tragic grievous and heartbreaking day (almost) 20 years ago tomorrow. 🙏🏼💔✝️🇨🇦
They took a terrible tragedy and turned it into something good by building a nursing home in its place. You have to give a lot of credit to those nuns, finding a way to continue to do God’s work.

Did you watch the whole video? They explained near the end that their best guess is that the oxygen for the pilots failed and they passed out, and the plane fell out of the sky.

I thought I heard that "hypoxia" was suspected but that part of the video was hard to understand. Something about them not reporting their status for an overly long period of time possibly from oxygen starvation? It would be very unusual for no cause presented unless the Military kept it classified?
Phil Bolton, military planes don’t black boxes, or at least didn’t for many decades. A military craft with a black box would provide intelligence to hostile nations.
I have read a dozen different sourced accounts of this event generated by a Google search and none of them include the word "Massacre". I also read several definitions of the word Massacre and all of them have in common "intentional slaughter without mercy" as part of the definition. You need to do a special on the Halifax Disaster! Happened in Halifax Canada during WW1 when 2 ships collided and was the largest man made explosion in human history until the first atomic bomb was tested. It was also the worst man made disaster casualty wise in North America until 9/11! Most Americans have no clue about this disaster! Ironically since Boston Massachusetts was the first to send aid to Halifax after the blast Halifax sends an X-Mas tree to Boston every year since as a thank you to this very year. The explosion also changed Canada religiously and medically!

i think in a previous life, i was a member of the Order of Pink Nuns. We were a very happy clan and our lives were filled with ribbons and flowers. We were given silly names like Sister Whack-a-mole and Sister Mary-go-round.
According to the documentary nothing was ever confirmed... where there is blank spots there are sure to be conspiracy theorists; the only statistically likely way for this to happen, given that it was a big building among flat open fields, was if the aircraft was (for a substantial period of time) flying so low that it cleared the shrubs but not the Villa. the reasons for this might be that they wanted to burn the extra fuel off faster by flying through the lower thick atmosphere, just got too low.
Stanislav Kostarnov, hypoxia with a steadily decreasing altitude is a sufficient explanation. As for it hitting the only large building around that was sadly mere let a tragic coincidence. Pilots are taught to ditch to minimize casualties. These pilots were apparently incapacitated.
