I’ve tried several times to enjoy the free DGN live stuff, really I have. And each time I realize that watching the post production the next day is a better use of my time. That said, for those who prefer the live stuff, I fully respect that.

I much prefer the condensed version.. live only makes sense if there were enough cameras (like in ball golf) to show "almost" continuous action. I did have to un-follow all of Disc Golf feeds on Facebook, Instagram, etc... to avoid Monday evening spoliers!

Current live coverage has a glaring problem for me: A very bad ratio of ads to actual live player coverage. DGPT would rather play 3-5 extra ads or sit in the commentary booth per hole than just slide over and watch another card's coverage. I might actually pay to watch tournaments if they had ~30% shift in ads to coverage ratio shift towards more coverage.

I don't understand on the fpo side anyways y they bother with more then 2 camera crews..... all they do is watch tattar walk up the fairway.... they never cut to other cards unless it's a birdie op..... oh look tattar is standing watching another competitor let's watch her watch.... ridiculous

Regarding the putting thing, of course you can be a great putter and still not be near the top of earnings etc. the only thing that matters in this subject is if there are bad putters near the top. Since that proves that you can be a great player even without good putting. Being a good putter and not a great player however does not prove that you don't need good putting to be one of the best it just means that good putting doesn't guarantee it.

Honestly, that's a pretty great idea imo about how to distinguish the two variant names. I personally don't care about it being called one or the other but the separation wouldn't hurt either. 9-holes and putt-putt courses, etc. being referred to as frisbee golf and any regular to even professional level 18-hole courses referred to as disc golf just like how we distinguish between mini golf and regular ball golf sounds like a fair distinction

Corey's putt was actually perfect, the problem was the basket. A tree fell on it and bent the basket. When it was repaired it was welded in the wrong spot, so the gap between the bottom bars was too large. That's more of an infrastructure issue, which is a whole other can of worms.

Growing the sport only happens from the bottom up. The Pro Tour is dead in the water. No one who isn't already playing is impressed by shots on coverage other than crazy throw-ins. At the home course level, on the other hand, if you can get someone to throw a slow disc correctly and watch it fly the way it's supposed to, you've hooked a new player. That's where "grow the sport" resources should go.

Gossage hit a blind ace in his practice round in Portland and Aderhold didn't have his camera on to even capture the flight. I guess if that happened to me I would be pretty excited, throwing in a just sub 500' ace on a blind basket tee with a RHFH

In the MPO, only top drivers win. Anthony Barela, Calvin Heimburg, Ezra Aderhold, Gannon Buhr. If you dont have distance, you need to be ridiculously accurate on Drives and never get OB, like Niklas Antilla. But Antilla will only win on courses in the woods

if you elevate a basket above someone's head, they aren't bad at putting...they just don't want to develop bad habits like putting nose up where the wind can come into play. if the wind is a factor from 5' because the basket is so effing tall, they need to shorten it. it's a gimmicky way to "add" difficulty to a course. add it with trees and layout, not on the green. there's a CLEAR height advantage there for taller players not having to throw vertically at a basket from 10'. that masonshankland is incredibly short sighted.

While 4297 can probably work a “trash can sized lid” better than most current pros (see him and 1602 jamming at the IDGC), Kenny didn’t throw “lids” for golf, early days would’ve been G1/G2 Rocs, Cobra/Stingray and Aviar’s
@caseysmith544
@caseysmith544 3 месяца назад
Yes, as Ken Climo he won in 1989 for first World Disc Golf Championship. He would have used in 1989 what is now a Classic Roc as Roc we know was made in 1990--1991, XD a mold made in 1987 only pre retooling of 1990, a Stingray, Shark maybe even if those had come out in time as was a 1989 aproved mold, and what is now a Classic Grid Aviar as only Aviar having a micro bead or integrated bead, with maybe some early no track pre retool Birdie for an odd approach disc as that Pre retool Birde mold is from early 1990. However, Ken Cilmo's Ultimate background before the development of a Discraft Ultra-Star and Wham-O Ultra-Disc/U-Disc in 1991--1992 when a 165--170 gram Wham-O 100 mold or a 175 gram Sky Syler was used would have him throwing lids and big Wham-O Frisbee and similar catch disc better then others.
@chefcosta
@chefcosta 3 месяца назад
@@caseysmith544, yes that is mostly on point, but Kenny wasn’t coming from an Ultimate background, he was a beach jammer and competed in all the events(most other disciplines required “lid” style molds) that were common at most state championships of that era. He definitely threw a Cobra, and that’s not speculation based on available molds of the time, that’s what he was throwing when I was playing rounds with him.

Only time I am pissed is when Disc Golf is called Frolf, as you sound like frat types in 2004--2009 heard a guy who plays disc golf making fun of disc golf during a bad round who watched Sinfield in the 1990's. I had to show somebody in 2000's I knew the episode clip in Where George plays with a group of guys one of who has a small/extra small workout bag for all his discs (disc bags of era were like a beginner single strap bag only with a non mesh drink holder) playing a course made with a pre basket design of poles and tape for hitting above line in Central Park or some other park near where George lived and George had a Wham-O classic as his disc he had left with guy when they played catch/freestyle last. Main guy was putt with older Wham-O 86 molds as his only disc you see and can tell what the disc is.

I agree that people should stop caring so much about what to call the sport. I was taught the game at 10 years old in a tiny mountain town. My parents called it folf. I didn't hear it called anything else until I was 25. Now, I am constantly corrected or looked at like I'm an alien whenever I say folf outside my little mountain town.

Spectators at the events are not generating revenue needed to grow the sport. If they can be present at some or all of the play, great for them! Most people, like every other sport on the planet, are watching from home. Maybe the focus should be on better videography. Watch ball golf. The cameras follow a little ball traveling twice as fast than a disc that disappears in a lot of the coverage. Even the catch cam footage fails to capture the resulting throw. Totally frustrating to watch. Do you really think the PGA generates most of their revenue from spectators? Get real! And get better videography.
@markmcgarity

i agree, but golf has been around since the days of no cameras at all, and disc golf maybe 60 years. they can't afford a camera crew on every hole and the best equipment money can buy, it's just that simple. it may happen one day soon, and it just might take some big sponsors that realize it's much more fun and profitable(not yet apparently) than watching pickleball or cornhole. maybe it just comes down to most people have zero clue what disc golf is..

Drive for show. Put for doe is a quote from the great golfer Ben Hogan. As someone who does both golf and disc golf. I think disc golf will always be limited because it's seen as fake golf by people who don't disc golf. It needs to become it's own thing. Stop using golf slogans to sound legitimate.

There is no way you can argue that putting is hard in disc golf. Not when pros are consistently putting 80+% in C1. Marwede missed 16 putts in the entire season last year in C1. Aderhold and Uli both had two or more straight tournaments where they didn't miss a single putt inside C1. Putting is not hard it is wayyyyy too easy. This whole conversation about spit outs needs to be converted to a conversation about how many bad putts get caught instead becuase there are way more of those.

I struggle to see how "growing the sport" benefits me as a casual player. The discs are already getting getting ridiculously expensive and the DGN is ruining coverage. Bringing in corporate sponsorship, greed, and politics into our little park game is not my idea of a good time.

To get more courses and better courses. Cities have to see the value in it. And if you enjoy watching pro coverage, making it a more marketable product would bring much hire production value as well as better overall tournaments in both design and payout for the players we love to root for. And if you happen to be lucky enough to have great courses near you, it might not occur to you that a lot of disc golfers don’t have that luxury and thus “need to grow the sport. “

"Putting is harder than everyone thinks" Bruh what? that 13 meter take was fine. Honestly step putting looks goofy and is a lot of the time a "too close to tell" foot fault. Putting in c2 should be standstill at DGPT level, pushing step putting out to c3. Which, yes, means different rules for different levels of tournaments. If you can't hit 60 footers without step putting you need to learn to spin putt, sorry.

Here's a hot take. Disc golf is a sport for throwing. Rollers are not throwing, and should be illegal. No one designs a hole for a roller shot, because not everyone can do it--therefore the roller is not intended for any hole and should be eliminated.
@Catalyst8487
@Catalyst8487 3 месяца назад
I think I agree with you in principal but I think enforcing it would be pretty challenging. Is it a roller if a player turns a shot over too much and it cut rolls in some direction? What if it's really windy and the wind turns your shot into a roller? What if you hit a tree or rock and the disc stands up and rolls another 50 ft?
@tjg555
@tjg555 3 месяца назад
@@Catalyst8487 I am short on ideas about those situations, but I still think rollers shouldn't be part of the game. I wish I could say something like "count every shot where it first hits the ground". But no one likes that idea even if it would definitely work to remove rollers from the game. It would also eliminate ground play, which plays heavily into strategy. Bottom line, I dunno HOW to get rid of rollers, but I think they should.
@chad7531
@chad7531 3 месяца назад
In what world are rollers not thrown? I think rollers are incredible for the game because of how high the difficulty is. Some of the coolest shots on the tour are rollers purely because not everyone can do them. Not everyone can throw thumbers either but no one argues about them.
