We’ve come a long way in spine surgery. The procedures we do today weren’t around for our parents. This is a cervical disc replacement. It limits the rate of further disc breakdown!
Thank you sooo much for this video. To say I’m miserable everyday is an understatement. I’m 26 years old and the pain I’m in day and night makes existing a task in itself. Still work a 9-5 where I’m up and down all day and by the time I get home I’m sobbing. EVERY DAY. Crying reading all these comments. This gave me the courage to get the replacement. Hoping it’s as easy as you make it sound ❣️
@@DonnallySpineConsult oh yes. I just thought that might’ve been something completely different. Never thought those things would be related. I wake up all hours of the night with painful and numb arms.
@@dealerspot the main sight of pain would be my lower back. I’ve recently lost weight as well and have been sitting on my tail bone. Most times I’m up and walking around I can’t feel my left leg, I have the numbness and extreme pain whenever I’m walking/standing. I also don’t ever get a full night of sleep, EVER. My neck pain is new though and it’s been giving me numb/painful arms at night same thing with the left leg.
I’m 28 and I did surgery for L5-S1 but microdiscectomy not replacement. After 2 years from surgery pain started coming back and now I’m suffering again 😢I feel you stay strong ❤
Technology has come leaps and bounds this century. You surgeons are worth your weight in gold! 4 weeks after endoscopic Foraminotomy in the San Francisco Bay area has been absolutely wonderful for decades of pain!
I got this im my C6 cervical disc replacement in jun 2021 , so far i feel better,i was miserable is an understatement. They cut from my front of neck and did surgery.
@@san209nha9 yes it was totally covered by the insurance,as its an expensive surgery, and the titanium disc is the most expensive.but good rotation & flexibility.
Just had this done at Disc Surgery Center, Newport Beach, where Dr. Shiflett replaced two discs in my neck. Disc Surgery Center is the spine surgeon for Red Bull North America… If you want the best of the best like I did, I would highly suggest looking into these guys🙌🏻
I have 2 herniated discs. I’m in pain everyday and my appointment with a neurosurgeon is on April 19th. Honestly I’m scared I’m only 25 and was in a forklift accident at work.
Bro DO NOT get surgery. You're way to young. Remember, Dr's want to operate because that's how they make money. Throw the kitchen sink at with PT. Do traction, diet, deep tissue massage, and get the Iron Neck device. Let the acute trauma heal first...it's going to take about a year to fully heal up.
Good luck! I bet you get better with a little more time or some medications. Happy to see what other options are out there. Shouldn't live with pain, sorry Phillip wants you to
Had a doctor tell me straight out “they fail, I’m the one that takes them out when they fail” I wouldn’t get one, and I’ve already had a botched laminectomy in my back when I was way too young
How do you feel? My father went to the ER tonight due sharp pain from his lower back all the way down to his ankle, and the docs told him that his discs are really bad.
That's incredible that what our natural body is gifted with takes tge most sophisticated metal to stand in place of it. I do not detract from the amazing work of these surgeons but our bodies are made awesomely
What's the failure rate please? I'm seeing Dr Charles Edwards at the Baltimore Spine center, Mercy Hospital. I'm hearing other spine surgeons say they're not reliable for lumbar disks vs cervical.
Hey love your videos I have herniated disc L4 L5 Pain is unbearable can’t stand straight Can’t sleep on my sides lately it made it to my stomach now it went away but still can’t carry anything that heavy still some pain in my right side it took 2 months to recover but it keep coming back and every time is worse than the one before what should I do
I was hit by a car on my bike 12/13 years ago and completely flattened my L6. I'm in chronic pain and can't afford to get help. Watching the movement after the replacement made me tear up a little. XC
hope u get help soon. I had two failed fusions and they lied 8 years in severe pain. I now have permanent damage . Here's what I did to choose the third surgeon. When I went to the surgeon I asked his patients wld u let him operate on u again? R u worse or better? Do u trust this doctor? Also read reviews all of them good and bad
I just had two of these replaced in my neck, and have zero pain and it’s only been a couple weeks, see if you can get your insurance to pay for it, my insurance through my job paid for 99% of it! If you don’t have insurance, go snag a job that has insurance and do it that way! I promise you it’s worth it
In case you were able to get the surgery done, I would highly suggest: DISC Surgury Center Newport Beach. They are the Red Bull, North America, action sports Spinal Surgeons! The best spine surgeons money can buy.
I herniated my L4-5, I started to have numbness take over within a couple days, then weakness in both legs over the course of a week. Left leg got better and right leg got worse. Now it’s been three months, numbness went down a little, but now left leg has gotten worse. I was not able to hold my bowel movement a week ago and went on the floor. Hasn’t happened since, but the numbness is painful and the weakness doesn’t allow me to do anything - I can’t walk. I close my eyes and cannot balance. Can you please give me advice on what you think is going on? I thought I had CES, but one spine surgeon said no. “Just get an epidural,” and that’s it. You’ll be fine. I took ibuprofen 800MG three times a day for a week and I barley improved. I’ve been taking ibuprofen on/off everyday - It’s been three months. Do you think I need surgery? Is it too late for me/is this permanent? Also was told I have a pats fracture.

I tried to get this almost 20 years ago but ended up having spinal fusion. I desperately need help now, but that was such a HORRIBLE surgery that I'll NEVER do that again! I'm in a mess and I don't know what can be done.
surgeons will always like to operate, and I almost get fusion bones as well L4 L5. I was ready to go in a few days but the head doctor broke is hand and I ask for a meeting with the second doctor after that she told me that his colleague was more pragmatic than her. I start to have second thoughts and pospone the operation.
May i knkw why you're so sure it will cause problems? I know stats aren't that great when it comes to fussion but... is it almost a guaranteed in most cases?
My mother aged 53 years, has Spine L4-L5 issue, having lot of pain and , used medicines and belt from past 8 months, but there is no use, pain is still same, can we go for surgery?
Yup orthopedic surgery is very predatory doctors rarely tell you that with the proper mobility and strength exercises the symptoms will calm down over time it can take a while. The disc will heal itself in the proper environment if it gets the necessary nutrients through good alignment and movement
I watched 1 youtube by a guy who did he CDP surgery. He could get back to run 1/2 marathon. If you watch another video of this Surgeon about the CDP surgery, the estimate is after 12 you can do NFL, NBA
I have osteoarthritis through my entire spine , I have been this way for years and tried every non surgical method to help . I finally gave in and had cervical fusion surgery , now I see this ! I need more surgeries on my spine mid and low back also . Please help I have MRIS and cat scans . Do you only do surgeries in Texas
@@DonnallySpineConsult can you tell me how I go about getting an appointment with you before going further with any fusion surgeries ? Are there any factors that would exclude me from your surgery that works without fusion , I don’t want to lose ability to twist and bend . I’m only 59 years old
I have a degenerate disc decease between L5 and S1 and the pain is really strong. I stopped lifting weights because of it even though I don’t do any heavy weights or do exercises like squats and deadlifts. I did physical therapy but I didn’t do much to stop the pain, I am scare to do surgery but after watching this video it seems much simpler than I thought
Unfortunately Prodisc-L will cause or accelerate facet joint osteoarthritis. It's an unrestrained device meaning it slams those facets hard. The ADR level will always move first before the natural discs.
I unfortunately lost a friend from suicide in 2022, although he struggled with depression, he pretty much had no discs left after throwing out his back 6 years earlier, he laid in bed 23 hours a day in pain.
Look I am involved in the design of these types of replacements, and I would recommend to be careful in the opinion of surgeons since they don’t have the biomechanics and design engineering knowledge to judge the downfalls of some of these disc replacements designs. Some of them are better than the others and by far the one which still has a lot of work to do is the simple PTFE ball against stainless steel with no damping system. It allows for free movement which is better than fusion but has no damping/cushion, which also brings new problems to adjacent discs.
What about multi cervical disc replacement, is that more challenging? What type of artificial disc is used? Is their a better technology and equipments nowadays that offer more accuracy and precision during the removal and installation?

(The only HMO we take is BCBS). 3- I must have X-rays and MRI, X-rays are critical! “Just” MRI isn’t enough and is a misuse of your time. It needs to be from last 12 months. Nothing older is needed or wanted. Cant stress this enough, must have BOTH: x rays and MRI. 4- You need to get your CD of your X-ray and MRI (imaging centers will NEVER send them to us) 5- On the top of my website (www.DonnallySpine.com) is the link to UPLOAD images, from YOUR HOME! 🥰(or at a CVS with Physician LookUp Code k5037438) 6- To recap: email us, get CDs, THEN upload! @@DonnallySpineConsult he said there was a lot of excitement about them a few years ago but that the data since then hasn’t supported the optimism. I’m interested in the new RFA of the BVN treatment for vertebral pain though. Far less invasive.
I don't recommend anyone get this done. I had it done at the recommendation of a doctor and experienced more pain issues than before the surgery. 6 months after my disc replacement the disc ended up migrating completely out of my cervical spine and almost damaging surrounding tissue. Stay with the spine fusion vs disc replacement there's just not enough data showing the procedure is safe.

@@DonnallySpineConsult I have spondylolisthesis with spinal stenosis, was going to get l4-pelvis posterior fusion and l5-s1 TLIF with decompression. is this disk replacement an option instead? looks like more mobility than fused
Im only 23 and my back is already pretty messed up from a weightlifting accident, car crash 2 years later, and working construcion for 5 years Glad to see maybe someday if i get any worse theres new stuff to fix backs
A doctor in one of the prominent hospitals of Heidelberg told me they only so lumbar fusion because disc replacement is not permanent and people have to get it replaced every 5 to 10 years due to corrosion
No. Not even sure where to start with that. That’s probably he misheard it because I don’t think any spine surgeon would say something so dumb. Now that said, I don’t love displacements at lumbar five sacral one. One of my partners does so I have people see him. But they don’t have corrosion as a routine issue.
@DonnallySpineConsult For l4 l5 after 2 surgeries, I feel my disc is already removed, sleeping and waking up has become a prominent problem, even exercising for muscle strengthening is becoming tough for me now. For a 34m, would you suggest disc replacement or lumbar fusion? What is rather permanent and helps in getting back the needed mobility? I just had a baby girl and I can't even bend to lift her off the ground

I had this done in two levels almost two years ago. Overall pain is gone but the nerve in my arm will still twitch and spasm on occasion. Is this just remaining nerve damage?
I'm wondering if my surgeon could/would do this to replace my ACDF (that didn't take.) My implant failed to fuse, but hasn't shifted. I have a limited range of motion, but I'm always worried that something will cause the implant to shift and suddenly I have to worry about paralysis. (Fun times)
I guess you take your chances. Id defo try to repair your own disc before a replacement, but if that isnt an option then can take chances om a replacement
