Your videos have gotten me from being terrified to try out disc priest and only playing holy in low keys, to timing the highest keys I’ve ever done while also having fun playing a spec I never thought I’d be good enough to play. I absolutely LOVE your videos and come back to them any time I don’t understand something about priest. Thank you so much for teaching me how to play a class I now love more than anything
I've gone from doing the literal opposite of what I should have on holy to being my guilds top healer and even making rank 1 in the world holy priest on normal mode aberrus in the last week of 10.1 and from flailing and struggling to understand disc in low keys (like actually low, like +7) to confidently doing +18s because of you're guides and videos over the last few months while I learned the game. I don't even know if I'd be playing priest anymore if I didn't find your videos and now it's my forever class so thank you ♥

Absolutely love it. Got the UI set up the same way you do, but the atonement WA kept making me miss the volcanic below me so I had to move it. Awesome video, relaxing voice, great instruction.
You structured this and explained this amazingly well! I think people looking to learn the spec will get great mileage out of it - will recommend it to people who might need it! Only one little quibble - at 3:30ish you mentioned the 2 set extending an atonement when you cast smite OR penance, but as far as I’m aware, penance only gets the increased damage, and it’s only smite that extends. Again, great guide!

Nice guide, just a couple things to add: Fyrakk trinket, the admirdrassil blossom, is an excellent stat stick that is an excellent single target low HP big heal (which is something disc really lacks outside of pw: life, which is normally specced out of these days anyway). It's frequently done a solid 14-15% of my healing overall in an m+ dungeon. A better build for a beginner, and I think all around in general, is dropping uppies and twilight equilibrium in favor of 2/2 blaze of light - more penance damage, which is your most cast spell outside of smite. I did not think about using it for bursting weeks, that was absolute hell with pugs. I'll have to remember that.

I see your points for your build alternative, that’s definitely an option. I’ve just found enough use cases where I’m glad I have Uppies available to warrant still bringing it, but it could definitely be easily cut to trade for the more consistent throughout from Blaze. Excellently executed. Its clear, well paced with good visuals and a perfect radio/podcasty/audiobook voice. Will definitely be following closely. Question: in M+ with large packs, i find that i want to lock onto my target debuffed by mindblast to get bonus dmg but with so many packs i kind just cast smite/penance on any of the mobs i can instead of prio dmging the caster and debuffed mobs. Do people use some kind of focus macro to avoid this? Cheers!
Thank you so much! For your question, I personally don’t use a focus macro for my mind blasted target, although I’ve heard that recommended by some. I use focus for my PI macro. What I typically do is dot things up as the pull is being rounded up, then pick a target that is going to have high enough health to survive my full mind blast duration, and stay targeted on him until the pull is done (or he dies). It can be helpful to do this on a priority target to help with your dps, but if that prio target has the same health as the rest of the pack, it might die quickly making you lose value on your mind blast. Being able to effectively heal is the priority, so I find it more reliable to just pick a high hp target. Some examples of this that comes to mind are the geodes in Neltharion’s Lair last season, or the Reanimation Totems in Atal’Dazar; they are top priority targets for those pulls, but they would make a terrible primary target for disc because they die before you can really even begin your pet window. So long story short, I’d recommend just dotting at the start of a pull, then pick a high HP target to finish the rest of the pull with.
Great video. I’ve just switched from playing shadow to attempting discipline and didn’t do to bad in my first Amirdrassil run. What’s the sliding buttons towards the bottom of your UI? Is it showing buttons pressed or next spell in your rotation?

What UI is that I’m trying to find a decent UI to use as I usually just use basic WoW UI but the way you have health bars and set up is really nice and seems more helpful than the way I have.
It’s a full UI package by Atrocity named AUI. I have a video guide on how to install it, but unfortunately it’s behind a paywall. If you sub to Atrocity’s twitch, you can get it. I just throw my twitch prime at him every now and then to update it, it’s well worth it imo because it’s all really well set up out of the gate for all of my characters

What addon/WA are you using that shows the atonement buff as a little yellow square in the top left corner of your raid frames? 2. Can you give me an example of when/how you might use Dominate Mind? Finally gave it a shot the other night and wiped my team... 3. I'm absolutely struggling in 13s and 14s with a 465 gear score. 465 should be high enough to manage these, right?
Hey, thanks for watching! 1. It’s a function in ElvUI with tracking auras. I don’t exactly remember how to set it up off the top of my head with not being at my computer, but if you Google “tracking atonement with ElvUI you should be able to find steps on how to enable it. 2. There aren’t any super obvious use cases for Dominate Mind this season compared to previous seasons. The primary way I use it is for my Spitefuls that are fixating me, and during Incoporeal weeks. There are probably some niche use cases for it that I’m not aware of, but I typically avoid using it outside of those affixes. 3. Yes, 465 should be high enough, but also realize that lower keys are often times harder than higher keys as a healer. In lower keys with less experienced players, everyone is missing kicks, standing in fire, taking extra avoidable damage, their dps is lower causing packs to last for longer, etc., which can sometimes result in you needing to heal for significantly more than you would in a coordinated group, even in a much higher key. This can become a harmful excuse if you aren’t careful, but I recommend looking at things that wipe the group or cause deaths individually and research if it is avoidable damage, or was it your responsibility to heal. In 13s and 14s, I can almost guarantee it’s not a healing problem.
You’d think so, but all of the big brains I trust that research the spec have said that it’s more important to do your regular rotation. TE is just for a little extra value on some of your heaviest hitting spells when it lines up, not something you need to focus on anymore. It’s some good extra value for a 1 point node, but you can choose to drop it entirely too for something else
Thanks! If you are only ever using Mind Blast as your first cast after Bender, they should always line up well. I don’t think it’s beneficial to use Mind Blast outside of Mindbender, so hold Mind Blast instead of holding Mindbender.

Love that they have given disc some attention and buffs and all but damn, i feel like they made disc easier than holy. I woulda preferred buffs that raise the skill ceiling without raising the floor so high. It went from being what I would consider as the arcane mages of healing to one of the most simple specs in the game.
Completely agree, I’ve had so many people tell me that they swapped from Holy to Disc just because it’s so much more chill; you just do the rotation over and over and everyone lives. I still think that the skill floor is pretty high for raid though

I’m enjoying holy more currently, double disc priest is too much of a headache imo, and since our other priest prefers disc and I prefer holy, it works out. Still have been doing double disc for Smolderon prog, and will for Tindral too most likely, but I’ll be holy for Fyrakk so I’m focusing mostly on gearing and prepping for that 🙂
It's definitely rising in ranks, and is very valuable in M+ for the additional spot healing power, but be careful about rating it based solely off of the % healing done, just like seedling. The value of other trinkets aren't shown as easily in Details/logs, but that doesn't mean that they don't result in higher overall hps output. Not saying you're wrong, just saying to be careful using the 10-15% healing metric because it's not the whole picture.
@@ragnongaming yeah youre absolutely correct. I think some of the dungeon trinkets have incredible uptime which would amount to huge healing over the course of a fight. I just enjoy being able to see blossom in play, you can actually see it healing people for a nice amount of passive healing.

It’s a WeakAura to show that shadow covenant is active. I like it, it frees up space on my screen, and is a very clear visual cue that I am within my pet window. Sorry you’re having trouble viewing with it
Hey! At the time of this video, I was using Atrocity's UI, which includes weakauras for the dungeons not available unless you subscribe to his channel to get the UI package. It's a great UI and I still recommend it, but now I'm using Causese's dungeon WA which you can find on wago here wago.io/dfdungeons/134 If you get the SharedMedia_Causese addon, it'll do sound cues too.
But if you’re doing low enough keys where you’re just holding W and never doing any skips, not relying on mass dispel for huge pulls with bursting stacks or for any of the other dungeon specific uses, and not bringing meta dps that are meta in part due to PI, then sure I’ll agree with you

I was trying to watch this while at the gym. But I didn't have my headphones so just had Google auto closed caption on. Apparently disc priest talk sounds like German and Japanese.... Ha. You give me hope that I might some day play a disc priest.

Imo Priest is not good for pugs because you have to rely on your allies to kick. The AOE fear is not enough. On fortified weeks 1 volley would hit the entire team for like 60-70%. Yes you can use rapture/barrier but another healer can just interrupt and prevent 5 million+ damage
It’s definitely a very kick-heavy season, and that’s a huge sore spot for priest in general. At least Holy has chastise as something extra to help, but disc is out of luck. My solution is to do my best to compensate for that when forming the group, knowing that I can’t help with kicks. Bringing melee dps, Prot pal or VDH, shaman, rogues for all of the additional CC, Aug for the extra survivability in general in addition to their CC, etc. There are plenty of dps players out there who don’t mind that priest don’t have a kick, as long as they get PI 😆
Thanks for the refresher! I started pushing 20+ keys at 450 ilvl last night because my friends needed a healer. Only thing I had issues with was getting one-shot by random target mechanics. I started banking 1 instant flash of light and fade to act as a mini wall to survive these moments. Is there something you’d do differently in my shoes? (Besides get gear 😂; working on that one)
Right on! Depends on what the mechanics that you are talking about are. Some are unavoidable and should just be healed through, and some should be outplayed. 450 in 20s is pretty low though, so that's definitely a factor

Most are, the vocal cues for “spread”, etc are triggered by an additional addon called SharedMedia_Causese, which you can find at this link. It unlocks sound cues used by many addons and weakauras that aren’t included by default. www.curseforge.com/wow/addons/sharedmedia_causese
I tried to designate on the spreadsheet which portions were supplied by atrocity and which were separately added, but in the end it might be worth just doing a quick double check if you have everything on the spreadsheet, and install any that are missing. Yeah, haste is pretty scarce this season it seems. Lots of vers and mastery everywhere. I think crafted rings will be a pretty good solution once we start getting extra sparks beyond our embellishments. They are a few item levels lower than maxed out mythic track gear, but they’ll be a really good solution to fix stat priority. That’s what I’m planning on using my 3rd spark on tomorrow anyway
I have been forced to start playing disc priest by my friends, and I pugged a +5 WM earlier and I was having the hardest time trying to heal through jagged nettles. I have been playing rsham for like 2 years, which is legit the easiest healer spec to learn, so I'm not used to the whole doing damage to heal mechs of disc and just end up spot healing everyone lmao but it's also because I feel like my dmg is almost nonexistent, maybe I have just been doing my rotation wrong, I realized I use Mind Blast at the wrong times lol but hopefully I can improve after seeing your guide, thank you!!
Comparing all the healers of someone was new and wanted a straight forward healer I recommend holy priest over anything else, while disc this season seems pretty good usually I can’t wrap my head around playing it every season and just stick with ol reliable haha.
@@nofoxgiven6561 Yeah tbf I have been looking into holy for the past few days but I still have no idea what I'm doing LOL I was a dumdum and my first try at it was in raid, needless to say I got carried through the entirety of normal even with 460ilvl, my brain is coded for rsham and when I have to do something different I just go full derp mode, will probably run a few low keys with it just to get the gist of it, but it does definitely look easier than disc (at least for my tiny brain)

Thanks! Last time I truly played shadow in any meaningful way was Castle Nathria, so I wouldn’t be in a place to make a worthwhile video anytime soon, but who knows as the season drags on! I do like being competent on all specs of whatever I’m playing, so maybe down the road after progression as a side project 🤷♂️
This guide is kinda nice, but it would be like 3 times better if you wouldnt try to just read a written guide out loud, including headlines. If I wanna have a guide in a form thats basically 1:1 the written one, I am going to read one myself. If I look for a video, I wanna get a video guid and stuff thats usually not in the written guides. 6/10
