I was 15 when I met my wife in 1991 on a blind date on Friday 13th! I’m serious! I was told she was 16 and had a disability but after talking with her I fell in love with her. We got married in 98. I looked past her Cerebral palsy. She was born dead due to toxemia poisoning. After her family prayed for her she came back to life instantly. She’s such a love and always smiling. She got her teaching degree but decided she wanted to be a stay home mom. Now 3 kids later we’re still together and I absolutely still love her. Don’t rush love! Pray that God sends the right man to love you!

All anyone has to do is watch your videos. When they see that infectiously wonderful smile they should be hooked. The disability you have is only a small part of who you are as a person. God made you for a purpose. You do an awesome job explaining your disability and I enjoy all that you do. You are the salt of the earth.

I dislike the online dating culture. We focus too much on looks and not on personality, in my opinion. But I understand why it exists. It is hard as is, but I can only imagine the level of difficulty added when you have to disclose disabilities, etc. I agree with most comments and what you said in the video. Just be yourself, and if they don't like you; ghost you, etc; they aren't worth the trouble anyways!

Let's be honest... People are shallow. The first thing that attracts us to someone, obviously, is how they look. Chelsea has an advantage here because she's super cute. However, being shallow extends far deeper than just regarding appearance. I agree with you, if someone is THAT shallow, they don't deserve her company. Admittedly, the only experience with dating sites I have is ONE date, and that went terrible.
@bgrimlan
@bgrimlan Год назад
As a man with CP, I have never had a problem with telling people my disability beforehand, in the sense of right before meeting in person (both men and women, not just with dating scene). I like to give a heads up. I think people are more reasonable when it comes to "appearance" (physical to me) disability when not surprised, at least adults are. With that being said, I do not come right out with my disability during the pre-meet up period. I am not trying to hide or start a relationship on a lie, I am just trying to give myself a fighting chance by showing that my mental capacity is there and so I can get them to invest little bit of their time into me. The hard part, not just meeting women, but also trying to get a job, etc has always been my communication disability, because I am speech impaired. People run so fast that it makes you feel like a monster. It's so discouraging and lonely when you want to share your life with someone. So people...as you can see with Chelsea, our brains are fully developed when it comes to mental capacity, just give people with CP and some other disabilities a chance. We will prove your stereotype wrong and could become your best friend, whether it's through a friendship or partnership (spouse).

As someone who has a disability himself (Autism), I understand 100% the struggles of dating with a disability. I've only ever been in one relationship and that was when I was 27 years of age (I am 28 now). I still, to this day, find myself fearing telling a potential partner of my Autism. It doesn't affect me nearly as much as it did as a child and adolescent, however there are still things I find myself struggling with. So to hear your stories and experiences with online dating, it helps me to gain a better understanding of myself and what my expectations are for both myself and potential significant other. So I thank you for making this beginning video of your series. As a fan, a follower, and a supporter/advocate, thank you from the bottom of my heart. Sincerely, Dylan C

As a 44 yr old woman who was born with both hydrocephalus and cerebral palsy I've never ever experienced what it's like to go on a date,have a boyfriend or be in a romantic relationship but it's all good because it's just part of God's plan for my life ❤
@adamswanson8216
@adamswanson8216 Месяц назад
I agree God‘s plan is something that we do have to accept however I am totally blind. I have hydrocephalus and my wife had CP unfortunately she passed away young so I have been widowed for five years now I am just continuing to pray and hope that God will again put someone in my path, she gave me two beautiful daughters who are both healthy and I am so happy for them and that I guess I live vicariously through them as my life has become more and more complicated due to my need for a wheelchair because of a couple of back surgeries hopefully that will mend itself over time, but no doubt Seeking God has been with the loneliness since my wife died five years ago and as much as I want to meet someone new even as a 50 year old man, I can tell you I fear the rejection and I don’t have the constitution for rejection that I did years ago. I just don’t even feel like I belong in this society sometimes, I don’t know how to explain it, but I’m sure you understand. It’s something you can’t put into words. Sometimes I just know that God‘s plan does give us eternal life and that we will have perfect bodies a new heaven, a new earth but God also says the flesh of this body will be gone and we will have a new body in heaven and I can’t wait to have a healthy body and good eyes. Thanks again for this video and you all are in my prayers. Thanks. 1:12 1:15 1:16 1:21 1:23

Note when I was writing my comment a second ago I also wanted to mention I can’t really not disclose being totally blind however I have started looking and considering the dating apps I have never used one of the phone lines again I was married 24 years and married young This has never been a problem for me, but over the last five years I have truly discovered the meaning of loneliness and I’m not looking for sex. I am looking for someone that can be my best friend again I was able to share everything with my wife and I just wanna meet that type of person so that can be my friend and my lover, I don’t know unhappy searching for answers. Thanks again. 1:39

This has been very helpful! One drawback with me is that I have Apert Syndrome and therefore have, lets just say different facial features, making it very upfront if I post a photo, I need a workaround with that. Another thing I realized is you need to be careful when dating online, while there are a lot of legitimate people online, there are just as many scammers as well. Great video though!!

I do believe to the right man. It shouldn’t matter. Don’t we all have a disability. Be it physiological, or psychological, or both? It’s understood you’re an amazing woman. But when you go for a walk, a stroll, that man should be by your side at all times. Regardless. Even if you didn’t have CP, he should always be at your side and behind you! It’s a reciprocal relationship. I wish you the best of all luck. You’re an absolutely beautiful individual. Never forget that!

I haven't been in the dating app for a while, but I would like to know upfront about any disabilities on someones profile. If I have date and need to plan out something then I would like to know how to accommodate. It would be inconvenient to learn about someone's disability for the first time the day before meeting them on a date. Being upfront about disability on your profile would save you so much time from the people that wouldn't make that commitment.

Wow! This is such a well articulated piece. ❤ Definitely important to have the open and honest communication. My disability isn’t visible (usually). When I met my wife online I didn’t have it on my profile. However after we met and I realized that we were definitely a great fit, I disclosed it immediately. TBI and PTSD. She laughed a bit because I was very concerned that she would split right away. Nope 9.25 years later she’s still here. ❤ 2 Beautiful babies. Thank you Chelsea Bear. You’re an AMAZING INSPIRATION AND WONDERFULLY BEAUTIFUL PERSON. Happy Valentines Day. May you find your perfect Mench!

When I met my husband I was up front about my disability. I told him a few things I struggled with , things like walking or lack of energy , and I also had to deal with bad chronic pain. Like you said , tell them in a low key kind of way . I told my husband I have a disability and it is apart of my identity. But I’m so much more than my disability, just give me a chance and get to know me . And before him I had people freak out or say they would never date me due to my disability. It hurt , I’m not going to lie . But it made me realize people who treat others like that aren’t worth my time , effort or my heart . So guard yourself and make sure you talk to them for a little while . Chelsea , thank you so much for making this video ! I wish this was around when I was a young 20 year old women . Because your right ! There isn’t really a guide book on how to handle this . But you are now part of that guide book by sharing your story ! Thank you ! ❤

I got lucky when one of my clients (21 years ago) started bringing her single older sister with her on all our appointments (her secret plan to get me to ask her sister out on a date!). My client knew I was single and her very shy sister was 42 and had only been on a couple dates in her life. We hit it off and have been blissfully married for 19 years now! I Never thought at 45 I would find love, but there you go! Hopefully someone that knows and loves you will fix you up with the perfect soulmate if the dating apps don't work out!

You are a sweetheart. Use this platform to do exactly what you are doing. Whether you know it or not. Putting your story out there, what you have overcome, what limitations or ways you've found to deal with situations. You seem wise beyond your years. And you are 100 % correct, with or without any challenges, when you meet someone, if they can not accept you as you are -- then walk away, and let it be their loss. If you have to change someone to what you want, then they are not for you. You are a seemingly smart, very attractive young lady with an infectious smile and beaming eyes. Trust yourself young un, when it's time you will meet the person meant for you. Keep up the great work and the amazing positive attitude.

Chelsea, I think it’s wonderful how you put your life experiences with a walking disability out there so others can benefit from those experiences. I can certainly emphasize with your thoughts and feelings you have about dating with with a walking disability because after a botched surgery to repair a broken femur, I have a walking disability also. I have to use crutches, a walker or wheelchair to get around now. I’ve had the same thoughts as you about when, if or even how to divulge that to someone when your just getting to know them. What you are doing is very brave. Thanks for your candor.

After the party we got to spend some time together ALONE ... That night needless to say we started Dating an Where Married in December ... I never noticed she was in a wheelchair or anything else.... She just had a different way to get around ...She was Married one time before an she worked at Eggland Air Force Base .. and ended up getting hit by a firetruck running through a red light ... Not even going to a fire 😏 she sued an got a bit of money .... But her Husband blew threw it in short order on Harley Davidson and other toys ,,once the money was gone he divorced her ..... When I met her she was 38 an I was 45 , neither of us had children an I was never married...Ex Navy Gunners Mate... So we got Married and a year later we had a Son who's now 20 ...we where married for almost 18 years , which no one could believe because most of them where divorced an remarried at least 3 times ...they really thought we would not last because she was Paraplegic.... Love 💕 Happiness and Blessings... We lasted ... But one day in 2017 January we found out she hat stage 4 Colon Cancer that had Metastasize to her liver and lymph nodes 😢 ... I was working at Fort Stewart Georgia Army Base and was able to take off 3 Months but it wasn't enough ...so I lost my job because I stayed home to take care of her ...I'd do it again if needed... I took Care of Her to The Day She Passed ..In My Arms and in our House on Our Bed ..... No one could understand why I didn't send her to a Hospice Home ,,, Sorry I was there 24/7 any how she passed and I Loved that Woman in a Wheelchair ..that I never noticed .. Chelsea, Hi!! Greg here ... just saw your video here and you amaze me everytime I see a video of yours ... and 'not' because your disabled (I became disabled in 2010 and can relate with the challenges you face), but you amaze me with the spirit and personality in how you face adversity, whether it be physical, or a mental challenge in how to handle it!! My answer (up till 'now' thanks to 'YOU') has been .. why complicate life, avoid it. Yeh, I've been alone for last 6+ years, but you may have given me hope for the future? I just wish there was someone like 'you' for me here in Minnesota!! If there was someone as sweet, positive, pretty, and all together 'wonderful' as 'you', I wouldn't hesitate for a second in making an effort to get to know her and ask her out!! As a matter of fact, I've been wanting to leave this state for a warmer climate for quite some time, which state was it where you live? Was it Florida?? How do. you feel about an older more mature man? LOL (Oh I'm being semi-serious ... you know, just incase you reject me). I'd understand if that was the case. Thank you again for being the beacon of hope for me, and being 'you'!! (If you'd like, friend me on facebook!! Greg Leonard - Cottage Grove, MN (if you search) 💜💗💜

I met the most wonderful woman who was born a Thymine baby from the early 50's. We fell in love and enjoyed each other for a long intimate relationship. She had one leg with a prosthetic and her forearms, hands were not formed. She was so funny and happy, like you. I was a bit over protective and she told me to tone it down a bit. She eventually had to leave the country for university and we lost touch but I'll never forget her. You will find a special man to share your life with.

Chelsea, as an old person 70+, I must say that you are admirable for all the things you do and take part in. Sure you have accepted your disability in a rightful and proper manner. That being said, you have proved beyond doubt, and given others sound by proving that you (an affected person) can still achieve so much in life by getting involved in what you love and like doing. From the 1st video that I saw of you, I am amazed to witness what you can and do prove capable of doing; all with that lovely smile on your lovely body. You definitely possess the "I want to; I can do, I have done it, attitude." 😍🙏👌

First you are doing a great service to many people who will watch this and will benefit from your experiences. Second I think it should be on the profile. If for no other reason, it would weed out the shallow people that end up being a waste of time. Like you said, it's a package deal, kinda like dating someone with kids is a package deal.

After I viewed your videos I didn't understand why you emphasized having a disability because your personality way outshines anything else. I truly see you as a uniquely cool infectious individual. Extremely attractive and bubbly. It's hard to believe that someone hasn't scooped you up already and you definitely don't need to worry about that. If I was only 20 years younger......

Chelsea, I’m new to watching this but all I want to say is that you’re such an inspiration to anyone disabled or not. All humans have a visible or invisible disability ( if not now then at some point in their life) it’s just how life is. Isn’t using reading glasses a disability? It’s a reading aid. Dating and finding a short or life long partner is a gamble whether you’re disabled or not. Those who ghost you after finding out would also run from the relationship if health issues or hardships occur. Clearly not a good potential mate in “ in sickness and in health”. Sending hugs xo

Honestly you are beautiful and very smart! People can meet and marry both being “normal “ but then a car accident happens or something… they can end up paralyzed or having issues.. the point is just because you meet someone one way doesn’t mean they will stay that way.. we all age etc.. you should love the person no matter what is on the outside, it’s the inside that counts. Praying you find the perfect man God has for you friend!! ❤

First let me say, I'm a new subscriber and you are gorgeous, inside and out! You are a huge catch and it's not just what we can see about a person, it's the things you can't see, inside, that are very important. Dating is not fun for anyone, at any age. Honesty and disclosure is the best policy though. In my situation, I'm 52 and have an 8 year old daughter. I tell ladies when we match, immediately, I have an 8 year old, are you good with this? I do this upfront as to not waste my time, or theirs. If they are not good with it, no hard feelings, we both move on. You are a great, positive person, good luck!

I absolutely agree to disclose of a disability before meeting. Just saves time and effort if that's not something they are looking for. You also have to watch out for scammers. I've been catfished before.

Chelsea, love your video. For me, I would not care if someone has a disability. If I love the person, their disability does not matter. Love looks beyond the disability. Your heart is what matters. You're the same person to me with or without your disability. Chelsea, you are still Incredibly beautiful with your disability. Your disability would not bother me. I am the kind of person who would treat you and love you the same with your disability as if you didn't have a disability.

Just speaking personally, and given my impression that you are a happy, positive person, I wouldn't worry that much about your disability except to support you in whatever you needed. In the back of my mind I would have only three questions: Does your disability impair your ability to be a good lover? Does your disability impair your ability to be a mother? Does your disability seriously shorten your lifespan? If the answers to those three questions is no, I wouldn't have any trouble dating you and enjoying the fruits of having such a nice person as a partner.

Scorpio here also. That makes you even more special than I thought. A loner to some degree. Wise , observant, perceptive, strong, independent, determined. Are you a Christian woman? Your certainly a woman worth knowing. If I seen you on a dating app( which I'm not on) I would definitely get to know you and take you out. Blinded by your smile and personality.
