Man, this scene feels like the highest of highs in the game, with Kim calling you harry, throwing off his composure to dance with all his might, to you psychically ascending to the degree that revachol herself talks to you and lets you in on some of the games deepest lore. Meanwhile, if you fail... it's the very lowest of lows in the game.
@@mahmud7645oh god. He doesn't mean the dance check. He means... the authority check. I've not seen it happen in person but I've seen the video. If you've formed any sort of attachment to Kim, It. Will. Hurt.
I loved how genuine the ravers were. You can tell they really, really didn’t want to start the drug lab, they just felt like their idea didn’t stand a chance without it. Helping them achieve their dream without any illegal shit is one of the proudest moments in the whole game!
There is actually more to this scene than that. If you succeed at a reaction check, you will get the city to talk about its death in the coming nuclear war
I mean it's sucks, but the failed check does give Kim more character development of his internal strife of not being accepted in revachol that you wouldn't know of if you succeeded. That's what greats about this game, both fails and successes give you rewards in different ways
@@forestflood5338 yeah I wanted to see what happens with a success but I'm pretty glad it failed me. It gets more profound with Kim and the Revacholiere.
Yeah I am NOT calling Kim a “monkey ******”. Turned off my console. I wish you could hang up a console like an old pay phone. That’s how much emphasis on that action I want.
SAME i tried to be brave and go with it but i got two sentences down that path and went ABSOLUTELY NOT. had to replay like half the day it was worth it though
I went from cheering and laughing to tearing up at the beauty of this game, within a few minutes. I don’t know any other piece of media that’s done that. Also, the line of ‘Mankind, Be Vigilant. I Love You’ is attributed to Czech communist journalist Julius Fučík. They were his last words before being murdered by nazis
I absolutely loved this scene. It highlights how close to real-life the interactions are. In that moment, you feel like nothing can go wrong. Everything is perfect. Everyone is vibing, even Kim is slightly amused by it as it is. Then if you fail the vibe check you call him a "Monkey fucker", misreading it completely and he walks out. BUT Kim calls you a psycopath and nobody, least of all you, bat an eye. The dynamics of missing one "vibe" and having the moment between all of you ruined is insanely thin. And the result for passing it is an amazing moment where everyone is in complete harmony. What a game.
I passed all the checks first time for this scene, it elevated everything. This was the shining perfect moment in the gray dark world and it was beautiful.
It feels so reminiscent of SMT, especially IV. The spirit of a war-torn city, speaking to you, choosing you as her champion, guardian and final hope. Different alignments and factions looking to tear her apart, the horrifying threat of nuclear obliteration; the opening of a rift to oblivion.... It's all here. And even with all the existential dread, it's still so captivating and full of hope.
I did this scene after the tribunal, and there was an additional bit of dialogue where Kim was incredulous that I could do this with my leg the way it was.
@@dioksazin - 9 months later, but did you ever end up recording this scene? Even though my Physical was low, my Shivers were too high at this point to fail the check. What is it that he says?
@@Chaeley unfortunately i didnt record it but i can say Kim was really panicked and genuinely concerned for Harry. He says something along the lines that he shouldn't let him dance or that he must rest more
Harry might not be able to alter the fate of the city with his actions, but goddamn is he going to redefine dance in club scenes forever with those moves.
This is some of the best prose I've ever seen in a video game - "I've seen you with her, I've seen you without her. I've seen you on the crescent of the hill"
"I've seen you with her...I've seen you without her." I love how however far-reaching and out there the voices get it all comes down to root pain of it all.
I love how this game can literally combine serious topics and so much funny random humour... AND STILL, MAKE SENSE! anyway, IT'S CODE 31 SO... GET YOUR GROVE ON BOYS!
This game is dark, depressing, worrying and real in all of it. Despite that, I couldn't help but grin from ear to ear as I underwent this whole scene. Best game ever.
Maybe its just my own affect, but I always thought of it as happy, but in a realistic way. Always gave me a strong "optimistic nihilism / existentialism" vibe
Harry is a piece of shit who hates himself and tried to kill himself, physically and spiritually and he kind of succeeded in the latter sense, even. If you ever felt like that, you might relate to how he‘s an absolute mess at being a person. I know I did, even if I have never gotten this bad. Hearing a place you came to know and love tell you that you have a purpose and that it loves you. Hearing that you can keep it alive as you can keep yourself alive, while, just as in our real lives, doom creeps not too far away, seemingly inevitable - that‘ll fuck you up. But in a good way, you know?
3:50 hundred thousand arms. this reminded me of a poem by nazim hikmet (a well known turkish socialist poet). The poem Ceviz Agaci (walnut tree) goes: My leaves are my hands I have exactly one hundred thousand arms I feel you with my one hundred thousand arms...
This scene has a couple quotes from socialists/communists. You noted Hikmet and someone else brought up the final words were those of a Czech communist before he was executed.
Throwback to homecoming last year i didnt know any dances but wanted to have fun so i tried to mimic whatever kim and harry are doing and i ended up getting a huge circle formed around me and popular kids joining me.. i was so surprised i dont remember much but feeling like i was about to pass out cuz the fact i got hyped up for once and having to hold onto my friend cus my lights were literally going out. Thank you kim and harry for one of the most fun moments of high school . No city spoke to me but still super fun and memorable
On the last lines of shivers...my entire body felt like it wanted to be out of itself, like the world wanted it to be inside me and not the opposite, almost like something primal inside me screamed,i shivered.
On the coast of the Martinaise Inlet, in a small weather-beaten stave church built 380 years ago by settlers from the Occident, most likely to guard against an anomaly at its centre, an officer of he RCM is contorting his body into idiotically rigid shapes, as he invents the future of dance music-... It's the *hardest* anyone has ever danced.
hypothetically if during this investigation a quirked up seolite were to bust it down (revacholion style) would he be goated with the sauce? - harry "tequila sunset" dubois
Just got through this part and couldn't stop laughing from the ridiculousness of it like. Poor guy danced so hard he passed out and met the god/spirit of the city herself lmao
Our boy harry is all that stands between revachol and nuclear annihilation. But with his anodic dance moves and scientific communism i think she'll be alright.
Also this is not a shit post the guy who wrote discos lore has a book set in the world's future. Its called Sacred and Terrible Air go read it some translations are starting to come out now.
@@sirfailsalot3684 Well, that's questionable. It happens during the Pale Apocalypse, which is strongly implied to involve potential-but-not-possible futures coming and going. So, in at least one potential timeline Revachol gets nuked, but if that is the "true future" is never made clear.
When you dance so hard and vibe so extreme that you have a supernatural experience and talk to GOD herself, reified in the soul of the city, granting momentarily the knowledge of time and space, and a fragment of the future onto you, before you have a stroke and involuntarily collapse on the floor.
1:10 Jullian Champenois, the voice actor for Kim, makes that line sound so fun. It's clear that Kim is about to tear shit up just from the way he calls Harry a psychopath.
I think we're all missing the big part about this, which is talking to the city I didn't know that there was this secret conversation you could have with Revoshol
(SPOILERS!) I did the dancing after the tribunal scene (where the..... you know...the injury...) and failed the "hyper drive" red check. Kim was so worried when Harry fainted hah :,)
In my first play though I didn't pass the checks for the pale theory and the dance, but was determined not to save scum. After that I did a whole new play though just to complete everything in this chuch. Man, was I not disappointed. I love this game, I really do
SPOILERS I did this after the tribunal, where I got shot in the leg... some wonderful Kim dialogue from then: "WHAT'S HAPPENING?! HOW THE HELL ARE YOU DANCING WITH THAT BROKEN LEG OF YOURS?!" i still got him to join, though.
