Typically the long way to reduce the number of cuts you'll have to make, but either way is possible. As a rule of thumb if there is existing plank flooring leading up to the room, you'll want to keep it the same direction. If your floor planks change directions, there's a high likelyhood your socks don't match either.

Lining up the butt seams is actually discouraged, it should be random but no less than 8 inches apart from privious row.

There is little demand for this product in the US at this time.

It's actually the material. There's a beauty veneer on the top and an insulating cork layer on the bottom. Cork is actually a pretty good flooring material but, like you, confused many people and was therefore a not a great seller for us so we have discontinued the line. We only have a small amount of our white Pura color left in inventory. bit.ly/plank_cork_flooring

As long as the floor is level and clean, you shouldn't have any issues. The cork flooring has an integrated cork underlayment that will smooth out minor imperfections.

There's definately a finess and learning curve. It's tricky at first. You connect them along the short side first and then lift the whole row ever so slightly and nudge the plank to fully engauge the long edge. It's pretty tight the first time you try so pull it back apart and it usually clicks together better on the second attempt. After about 5 or 6 rows you'll be a pro.
