Thank you. I remember you being able to do that in the last generation idrive. Try going to the button that gets you to that screen. You should be able to click and hold on it and get it to work.

I do not have a BMW. However, as you are a Genius, I would have hoped and still hope that you dig further and get a precise answer as soon as you get your hands on an 8.5 BMW - then post your exact finding here. Thank you.

Thanks for watching. Not possible to drag them around unless you have a brand new BMW X1 or X2 that have the new iDrive 9 version. Annoying but yes you would have to delete and reprogram.

If you mean the button on the actual tailgate, yes it should close as soon as you press it, if not it may just be a little stuck, which would be best if you have a tech quickly look at it. If you meant the trunk open close button on the inside driver side door. You push down to open, and HOLD UP the WHOLE TIME, to close.

Closest way would be to setup the 2nd house as a favorite. You can save it as one and then hold it to rename it.

Software updates are the worst. Sometimes could take up to a month to do. Vehicle also has to be driven around so battery is fully charged since that’s needed to do the update when it’s parked and off. Has to parked on a level field. E brake has to be on. Headlights off. Take out usb cords. If all fails after a few weeks, you’d have to bring it into the shop and manually have the update done. This is not covered by bmw and there will be a labor charge.

@@BeamerViewThose are some odd requirements. Thanks for clarifying those. For the level ground thing, my driveway is inclined a few degrees and I live on the side of a mountain, so even the street isn’t quite level. Should I go find some flat parking lot and just sit there while it updates? At what point would the update fail due to not being on level ground? Does it actually show you some kind of alert stating it can’t update? I can’t even get the update to show up on the app or the car. I’ve run the “Search for upgrades” under the Remote Software Upgrade menu item repeatedly and it just searches for a while and then goes back to showing the button to “Search for Upgrades”. It shows my installed version as 03/2023.65 Would my dealer be able to force the update somehow if I take it in?

Actually went and tried it just now and after a while, it showed a notification that no software update is available for my car. No idea why since it’s a 2024 X5 LCI Anyways, thanks for the video. Useful as always. I’ll call the dealer.

Shortcuts are not widgets per say. The navigation arrow can be changed, just tap on the compass on the lower right side when you're in the map and that should change the "Direction of travel" if it doesn't work, you can go into map screen and from there go into settings, and there is also a way to change the direction of travel through there too.

Gotcha, it works for Carplay not sure if android made it compatible yet. Try the idrive reboot see if that helps at all too.

@@BeamerView Hello thanks for your answer. :) I think the problem is that with android, you don't see shortcuts in the car "all apps" menu. So it's not possible to create a shortcut from ther neither from the android carplay menu. Let's hope some day BMW will update this.

Some can be, for the Carplay ones you could say Siri Open Waze, etc. Limit is 8.

iDrive 8.5 is the one that has the lower icons. Depending on which BMW you have, it may or may not update to 8.5.

@@BeamerView Hmm… I guess this requires a trip to the dealer?

The best way to do this is through voice commands. If you hold down the voice command button, you should be able to summon siri or google assistant and tell them to send a text message to whomever.

@@BeamerView I should clarify: if I have several text messages waiting for me, what’s the fastest way to get to that screen? I usually ask BMW to show me Apple Car Play. Sometimes that takes me to all of my iMessages (maybe when iMessage is the last Apple app I used), but other times it takes me to another Apple app. Thanks!
