I've seen several similar designs, you might want to consider a front piece for the wagon part, one design I've seen a lot has one that also can be dropped as a stand for keeping the cart level when you aren't holding it.

Great build, that squeaking would drive me mad, i'd put some tallow in the hubs not only would it quieten the cart but stop premature wear, i wonder if the handles were cranked in you'd not have to hold your arms so far apart.

Yeah, pigs fat or similar would probably be good as historical lubricant. Good points too.

I'd like to see how it is built. Wheels especially. The romans had already begun putting iron hoops on their wheels. I am concerned about the thin axle and its load carry capacity.

Ok, it’ll be a couple of weeks - but I’ll do a how to make video for this. Yeah, metal tyres were a thing for Roman chariots etc, but as the empire withdrew - these were forgotten I guess. The axel is 1” oak which seems to hold up ok. I’ve not put much weight in yet. It was tempting to use a metal axel, but I wanted to stay as close to historical as practical

There's 99 things to love about your cart. The 1 thing that scares me is your axel. Even empty, those wheels are a bit dodgy. I will have to research how wagon axles worked. I should be able to find musems locally that could help me. 150 years ago, thousands of people came here to Oregon on wagons. I doubt they were very much different from medieval ones. Except for iron wheels. By that time, they would all have had iron rims. Or not. I will share what I find.

With the lack of availability for traditional materials around where I live I had to use what I could easily obtain. It's not quite the most authentic version, but it does work pretty well. The axel is not too bad. The wheels I bought were not drilled 100% in the centre and that made things a little worse.

I’ll be making a short movie it’s going to be the legend of Zelda I’m looking for how to make a hand kart I like this style do you have a build video if not do you have plans to build this if you do would I be able to use them also give you credit in the end credits?

interesting project but the hub bearings and the axle shaft look a bit scetchy...

The axel is oak dowel which is probably the most suitable really. A metal axel would create a lot of wear on the wooden wheel hub. There's no bearings in a wooden wheel hub or axel.
