i love how well you put this. it honestly generalizes to a lot of mmo experiences and i think these are really thought provoking for actually reflecting on your approach engaging in any video game moving forward. great video!
I've been an AST main since Heavensward. This iteration is giving me a complete identity crisis in game. I'm so upset by it that I'm going to wait to play until the live letter. Homogenization has been the history of AST for each expansion. I really hope that the rework in 8.0 will be better than the one I sampled in early access.
I hope it goes better for you too. I know some expansions make our favorite classes fall our of favor. It really sucks when that happens. I have had some times like that on Black Mage too. It just feels like the fights were crazy for my class. I switched the Red Mage for the longest time because of it, but I came back now and just play the easy story content stuff.
@@DrGameology just feels wild that end gamers are content shaming mid and casual core players. Dungeons used to have some challenge and possible wipes, which I personally feel builds stronger community. Just feels like jobs are so focused on the 2min damage window, when that content is such a small fraction of most players' playtime goals. I miss the days of player expression. I'm not quitting the game, just stepping away. Just feels like the community is growing and leaning into Garlean ideology. I do believe that game design can influence community. I am concerned about the sociological shift of the ffxiv community. A good example is the community's response to the healers' strike. My tone might be hyperbolic, but I've personally felt a growing pressure to fall in line with objectives that don't resonate with me. Maybe my grievances are niche, but the cards chaotic but ultimately inconsequential fun. Now they are mostly HP cards that feel redundant in a kit that already feels strong. Since you switched jobs, did that make you happier? Or was it a tool you used to pacify your grief in losing an important aspect of your avatar? Are you a rdm main now? Side note, the cards kept me awake for the dungeons. Now. . . I don't know where I sit with the game. I feel alienated from my fc. My old friends have moved onto other things time and time again. I feel like I'm in the minority on the cards and the identity of AST. It strangely does feel like I'm sitting at the of a journey I maintained since the release of ARR.
@@inarikun1348All of those points are unfortunate parts of living through the life of an MMO. My character always felt naturally drawn to any Mage class, so playing Red Mage was a natural adjustment. I also love res duty too. DPS with healing is a great combo for me. I hope it feels better for you soon, and I hope changes feel more normal as time progresses. Keep in touch and thanks for watching 👍🏻
