Dr. Subramanian Swamy opined that we need to first understand what kind of a world we want to be in and one must realize that the search for security, stability and stable income could never equip one to change the face of the world. All persons who have achieved something in this world are those who took certain degree of risk. He focused on three kinds of intelligence emotional, social and spiritual.
Dr.Swamy holds a Ph.D. in Economics from Harvard University, where he also taught for ten years, and has published famous joint papers on the Theory of Index Numbers with Nobel Laureate Paul A. Samuelson. He is recognized internationally as an authority on the economy of China. He has been elected five times to Parliament since 1974 [three Lok Sabha, two Rajya Sabha] and has held senior Cabinet rank position twice [1990-91&1994-96].
He was the President of the Janata Party . He merged his party on 11 August 2013 with Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).Dr.Swamy had served as a member of the Planning Commission of India and Cabinet Minister of India. He is also a published author. In 1994, Swamy was appointed as Chairman of the Commission on Labour Standards and International Trade by then Prime Minister P. V. Narasimha Rao . This was perhaps for the first time that an Opposition Party member was given a Cabinet rank post by the ruling party.
