Most of the Muay Boran styles teach this. In Thailand it stems from the Thai greeting (wai). People also wai when apologizing or or not wanting trouble. So it is a non agressive guard. It is likely part of many SE Asian styles. I've seen some Silat styles using it too.
Yes, that's something you'll find in Silat too. In Silat it's called _hormat_ which simply means 'salutations'. In Silat, it's the _gelek_, i.e., the torsion of the hip, that generates power While the hands mostly just orbit around the elbows for blocks, parries and strikes. Both shoulders and elbows are kept low, the latter protecting the lower ribs and the liver and spleen.
Fedor used this type of guard against Cro Cop to protect and parry the high kicks. I think that some of this is actually too 'fancy', but as the legend said, "take what's useful and discard the rest."
yeah! this technik is huge once you mastered it ⚔Muay Boran being very close to Indonesian Silat but still simplified ⚔ it not only the art of using triangle patterns with arms to defend or attack the opponent but more the art of using triangle motions for stepping away or getting into opponent moves like in Wing-Chun (as stated here!) n mostly in Penchak Silat (n then Krav Maga being an 🇮🇱 clone of Silat) where these ancient techniques are the core approach of the fighting system 💣it is IMO (n my experience of 2 decades of MA all over the world) the most deadly n powerful techniques ever created for Kombat (especially when used with some secret small weapons 🧙♀) 🔥
What flexibility in applying the movements! Nordine is a martial arts master, a real one! his origins are Algerian, born in France in St Tropez, a nice man, a brave
Now you know why Buddhist and Hindu Monks hold this pose and why Muay Boran came out of Buddhist tradition. This is the most common pose for Buddhist monks everyday
Not true at all. warriors who are either in the hindu or buddhist faith they belong into Varna system. In the past, there were religious clashing. The word Muay Boran didn't start appearing around the 1900s. Anything before that the Thai call it "Muay" but before there was ever a Thai kingdom. The Kingdoms from Cambodia and Burma were dominating mainland Southeast Asia. The Malay peninsula had various kingdom until the Malay finally dominated that area. The Tai were in China and migrated to Yunan from Guang Xi. The Hmong did take a similar route but ended up in Laos. These two groups didn't recieve any indian influences until they seek asylum and refuge. The reason behind it, it is because they were intruded by Han chinese rulers. Some of their villages were under chinese hegemony and later the Mongols.
The namaste hand prayer posture is one of submission and surrender, there is no doubt about this. It is descended from the way victors once tied up the losers. The losers were now slaves. Their hands and fingers were tied with jute so they appeared to be in perpetual supplication. That's a fact. Thanks for sharing with us. All the best. Laoshr #60 Ching Yi Kung Fu Association
Amazing! Reminds me of Keysi method but this looks more defensive and counter striking. Its interesting because in Mision Impossible 3 when Tom Cruise has this bomb inside his head he has to use his elbows in a triangle shape to fight off the bad guy.
Triangle, square and circle... That are ways of movement/thinking/attack or defense. From easier to harder. Triangle is more aggressive,it intercepts and penetrates. Square is much more stable and defensive and the circle relates more to grappling and or evading and counter atacking. And ofc they are not just "one style" you use the three of them combined. You can think of that as bs and you would still be doing it without knowing. Its not as obvious as in the video but if you think about it we all move in only 10 directions like a cross and and X and up and down.
That's the basis of Aikido and Aikijujutsu by the way. The triangle, square, circle. It is the basis of every martial arts really, whether it is foot or handwork. I actually almost went in a psychosis when I realized on an essential level that, thinking about entropy, the simulation argument, advanced physics, pure maths, free will and all. Freaky stuff if you dive too much into it and forget to enjoy life.
This looks like Pencak Silat, some styles of Silat are similar to Muay (boran) in applications, this is the first principle we learn in my Silat school.
Wonder why the professional muay thai fighters who have hundreds of years of history and experience behind them dont know these super smart secrets...they so stooopid huh 😮😂
I guess it would be cool to see someone climb up on a person and do this but I ain't seen it yet in a true street fight. Mauy thai and some jiu-jitsu training for the smaller person. This stuff misleads people.
Hinduist and buddhist do the greeting. Any Southeast Asian countries expect for the Philippines. In the past, indianization did spread but the ones that were doing the spreading were merchants
Yes, fighting with a single siytem with multiple applications, Great asset, even "healing" the opponent with elbow strikes into most sensitive parts, a laMuay Thay, as you put it. Many thanks and good health.Paul,68
Interesting technique, but my personal opinion is that this has limited application though. I was taught to throw a _minimum_ of three strikes whether attacking/counter attacking. This triangle isn't going to work against that. Variable acceleration. Footwork. Head, body, head. Body, head, body. Etc.
Myself noticed a lot of the body is unprotected in many of these moves if opponent was to counter strike and knows what they are doing, the liver and kidneys looked like open targets many times.
@@niconicoo5661 I did Lau Gar kung fu and boxing many years ago, but this Triangle system just leaves the body wide open for kidney and liver targets all the time, yes its a very stupid style.
What is being described here I’ve seen from a Lao monk he said he learned it in a temple outside of Vientiane. He said it was a old style of muay Lao boran
HAN You fought well yesterday. Your style is unorthodox. JOHN But effective. HAN It is not the art, but the combat that you enjoy. JOHN The winning. HAN We are all ready to win, just as we are born knowing only life. It is defeat that you must learn to prepare for. JOHN I don't waste my time with it. When it comes, I won't even notice. HAN Oh? How so? JOHN I'll be too busy looking good.
What a gem looking into an old style that most people forgot about - maybe make a whole series about it. You did great work putting Kung Fu on a high level out the same for MMA and some old styles most people don't know about like me. Thanks keep going!
This is great! Reminds me of how the concept of a triangle is also used in Filipino Martial Arts. I've observed that concept is shared by many South East Asian martial arts. Thank you for sharing!
When I saw the intro, I thought it was another bullshido master. But now I have to apologize for my haste. Thanks for the post, and good luck to Nordine. Oss
I’ve noticed Justin Gaethje has used a similar guard in recent fights. Most recently against Fiziev. His rematch against Poirier saw him using a more fluid guard
Yeah, this resembled a lot to Muay Chaiya to me. The "Durian Style" . Kru Pedro Solana has a training camp close to Chiang Mai, north thailand and he knows a great deal about this style.
Tai Chi is crane and snake. The bill of the crane is represented by the first posture, praying. You can poke with it on the inside, and with a slight adjustment, the fingertips at right angles instead of touching, is the push to the body and a great two handed block for kicks or heavy hitters, it will stop anything. The pokes are very strong and give new meaning "to the point".Meditation.
