Well the TD5 had a stainless steel exhaust manifold and a upgraded exhaust system fitted today and while I was there I put a stainless steel EGR blanking kit on.
I always thought the EGR was there to improve emisions, but according to Scotty it is only there to stop the Cat getting too hot. Mm, don't know. Anyway, good effort. I hate exhaust jobs!
Nice content mate but bit of advice from pass experience. your stainless manifold will warp and crack due to welds giving way from heat, them gasket are terrible and will melt and blow though. better with Oem standard metal ones. (keep your standard manifold, deweb it and get it skimmed)
I run a TD5, have flattened the manifold to head face after it warped and de webbed it. Bloody sure it’s warped a bit again. Was told the Alisport upgrade solves it... but have you seen the price ?
@@lookcreations Have you thought about getting a fabricator/exhaust guy to make a manifold out of inconel, it has great heat resistance values and wont rust. Some sch10 bends would be good for a manifold. Its just a though up to you
@@lookcreations A manifold that's warped once *shouldn't* warp again, unless you manage to get the exhaust hotter than it's ever been before. When I got my Disco it didn't have a problem with the manifold but I was worried that if it warped it'd break/strip the studs which'd be a PITA. I bought another manifold, cut the webs out of it, checked it was flat and then stuck it in a furnace and got it red hot. Afterwards, it WAS warped (which I was expecting) so I got it skimmed. After that I got it ceramic-coated, swapped it onto the car and I haven't had any trouble with it in 5 years. The manifold cost me £10, it cost about £30 to get it skimmed and the ceramic coating as about £65 IIRC. The ceramic coating probably isn't really important but I wanted it to look purty. Bargain compared to an Alisport manifold, though, and I certainly trust it more than some sketchy eBay tubular manifold. Honestly, I reckon the OEM manifold (when properly prepared) is better than ANY aftermarket alternative 'cos it provides a place to fit an EGT sensor and it takes up much less space than a tubular manifold (or the Allisport manifold) so it allows better access to other engine components.
EGRs cause more problems than a enough, Every car i own, i have either disabled it or removed it fully. Same goes for the CAT thing too, the 306 HDi i found responded well with that removed. I am yet to remove it on my TD5.
What’s the noise when you first start the car sounds like a vibration of some sorts mine does it too can feel it through brake pedal too if my foot is resting on that
I've heard a lot of people saying these tubular manifold will crack. I think most of the guys are running hot tunes which really pushes the manifold. Out of curiosity, have you had any trouble since putting it on, and do you run a remap? I brought one of those gaskets not really paying attention to it. Sadly I have to replace it again, waiting for it to turn up.... Wish I brought a OEM the first time
I got my manifold from someone on Ebay I would suggest not getting one from there as heard people saying the weld's crack mine never did but not worth the risk
My one was a cheap Ebay special,I didn't have any problems with mine but I have heard a lot of people have there fail on them if I was to get another one I would deffo get a better made one
I asked this as got two mate that have discovery 2 TD5's the same age and thay both do not have cats because of the age of them thay are ok but the facelift models do need a cat. I'm not 100% certain on that as that's what I've been told.
@@Turbo--James I recon it comes down to what emission class the vehicle was build for. The facelifted D2a have a "better" emission-status that the early models (P15 vs P10-engine). So in that aspect those of us with D2a who yank out the cat & egr may be in for a surprise doing out MOT`s...
@@Turbo--James I was going to ask how you got on but that comment says it all, I’ve hd many customers come to me with this on and most of them have broke on road test. One of the issues is the flange doesn’t have the cut out for the water way bung so never sits home properly
